I need to know what is there for a freeware memory checker. I think mine might be failing.
Also, without taking the case apart, how can I tell what memory I should replace it with?

HellDiver...

Memtest is the best program..

google it

you have to download it, burn it as an ISO file and boot your computer off it....

You need to know what make and model your motherboard is first, or if its an off the shelf computer. google your make and model number for specs.that will tell you how much memory it will run, what speed, what pin configuration it has...

Harleyman,
Apparently MemTest comes in a shell format now:

Helldiver,
I know this is not what you're looking for, but CPU-Z is a simple little utility that gives you a lot of info on what's inside your pooter without having to go in with a flashlight:

The SPD (Serial Presence Detect) tab on CPU-Z tells you how much RAM you have in each memory slot, also manufacturer and timing info.
