Hi Guys,

Sorry Alex...I've been watching this link for a while now. Itchy trigger finger I guess. The link was a modified version of your Safir link. :) When I saw that I could purchase it, I did. I was able to purchase and download, but I can't activate yet. Many apologies for the pre-mature excitement. It really is a great Christmas present for me as my father-in-law's story is included in the manual. You folks are FANTASTIC!

One of my Christmas gifts to my Father-in-law will be a printout of his story from your manual! :ernae: Can't wait to fly her!

Again my apologies...but thank you!!!

I hate this sort of hacker sh*t. I've paid and I want my product.

Well, after first flight, and a crash. It is very well done. Be very careful going into a stall. I got it into a flat spin at too low altitude. It wasn't pretty.

I do have a couple questions or observation for Alex (I've only skimmed the book). Where's the avionics master? Does the propeller control work? It looks to me more like a fixed pitch prop in the way it acts. I scanned a few sites and couldn't find an answer on the real airplanes.

That doesn't detract from my opinion (if anyone cares) that Sibwings has another masterpiece.

Glenn

I have the same question Glenn. I finally hit ctrl+E after start-up, and at least got the radios to function....kind of...Looked all over the manual, and no mention of a avionics switch. Once I did get the NAV/COMM 1 active, I also could not get the NAV1 frequency to tune to the VOR I was heading for; even number VOR 109.20, nor was able to get the frequency picked up one the VOR1 Indicator after settling for 109.25.

The ADF seemed to work OK.

Also, not a fan of the default Garmin 500, and am having a heck of a time swapping it for the freebie SimFlyer 296 handheld I have. Seems if I change anything in the default panel folder, I get problems, or nothing shows when calling up the GPS pop-up window.

EDIT::: I'm finally getting it figured out, and have the 296 handheld installed. The USAF NAV1 radio is still 'screwy', so I attached a Friendly Panel COMM/NAV1 radio to my GPS pop-up in order to tune in VOR1. That seemed to work, but would be interested in why the NAV1 gauge is acting like this. It seems most frequencies go in 'half hundreds', as example: 110.00 to 110.05 to 110.10 to 110.15 etc., but for some reason, I cannot get to 109.20, it goes from 109.00 to 109.15 in .05 steps, then jumps to 109.29 from 109.15 instead of 109.20. I notice this happens in some other ranges as well, but just so happened for the frequency (109.20) that I was trying to tune into. Which is why I could not get my VOR to become active.

Did take a short flight anyway, navigated via ADF/NBD''s and it is a nice handling aircraft, I just expect some additional functioning of the various radio's and switches for this price point. The ones that do function, do so cumbersomely. In general, excellently rendered though.

Been there, done that myself. Hence the 'simple' activation, knowing that whatever we do it'll be on the torrent sites within hours anyway... that goes for the Lizzie AND the Bird Dog. Enough aggravation in the world already :icon_lol:

Looks like a nice aircraft though... I might try and overcome the Russian hurdles myself.....

Paul, as I got you have "advanced animation" off in FSX settings, so spring do not work, please try to put it on, hope that will not takes much FPS.

Rocket fire is working, you need to make rocket wisible (Shift+ctrl+1 from VC) and press salvo button\tumbler. Bird Dog armored with eight rockets :)

Ahh... See, I knew it was at leat 75% probability that I messed something up, like having advanced animations turned off. I have it turned on now, and now the wheel struts spread out with weight on them! Cool! Now I have to fly all my other planes to see what animations I have been missing all this time!

I did notice one or two FsX crashes when I selected a different version of the Bird Dog. On other occasions it seems like I lost engine power and could not get over 40 kts after switching? I would stall and after the flight was reset everything was fine?

Fireball...... I've had the same problem as you discribed..... Also..... saving the flight with the bird dog, then exiting FSX, it appears to exit, but coming back later I get the message, "FSX is already running." Going to the task manager it doesn't show it's running, however under "Processes" it's still there.

I've defragged my dedictated FSX drive last evening, however, it appears the problem will still exist if I try to save the flight in the OE-1.

For the time being, I'll have to make sure I save to a default aircraft I suppose.

Had a sim-free xmas until lunchtime today, then found that this is out from this here thread. Couldn't wait to download it (well, we were told initially Mar 09!!) and I echo all the comments above.. very, very purty.

Unfortunately I can also echo the comments above re FSX crashing/ locking up after flying this gem, and locking up when trying to select a different model. Had the same problems with the Safir (and that was a gem too..) but put up with it until an upgrade to a faster pc and Vista - couldn't get it to run at all then (the Safir - not Vista, although I would have settled for the latter in hindsight!!). Going to post this at the sibwings forum, but I can live with it for the moment.

I was one of those who had the same problem exiting FSX after using the PMDG J41, but its ok now and still one of the best add-ons out there. Here's hoping the sibwings team can do the same for the Bird Dog.

Well, on the whole I'm very happy with this addon. The prop disc seems a bit too distracting from the VC for my taste and I'm not too sure about the sound either but that could be because my sound levels are set up specifically for the A2A Cub. Unfortunately the A2A Cub is so brilliant especially with the Urs Burkhardt repaints that I measure every other addon released against it which probably isn't fair but I am glad I bought this and I look forward to some quality repaints. She is certainly a powerful little thing isn't she!

No lock ups for me though. I did have similar issues with the Safir but so far so good with this one.

edit - I'm sorry but I had to swap the O1_prop.dds for a prop by BananaBob. A very personal choice I know but to my eyes it looks much, much better now :kilroy:

Hey folks, with respect to the lockups...

I did experience these during beta testing. I am now on Win7 and the "funnies" only started happening after I went to Win7. There was one small driver issue (nVidia is now on to version 195.62). I hasten to add, that my issues were in the beta only. The release worked fine for me.

Win7 has DX11 built in and this may also cause "tremors"

I appear to be cured right now - drivers all up to date and checked the Microsoft site for hints and tips. The cure was, in my case, a patient de-install, system scan, re-install - with EVERYTHING off, i.e. all background programs, virus scanners, internet connections... the lot. The main possible issue might be installers and Win7 64bit conflicts.

MIGHT be... I am not sure. The release version worked OK. Tell Sibwings Alex and Andrey. The more information they can gather, the more they will learn. Basically I reckon Microsoft has made our lives more difficult and not the aircraft devs. Win7 is an improvement in many ways, but both Vista and 7 in 64 bit mode cause heartburn.

Thats the same here - I have try out to change back to the default Cessna 172 before I close the sim - that give me a black screen and I need to start the taskmanager to be able to close the sim.

The Problem-Manager told it was an APPCRASH - FSX.exe

Unfortunately the 'official' repaints on the Sibwings site do not change the interior or the panel at all (at least the RESCUE version doesn't) which is surprising.

Don't know if anything has been done for FSX but I do know there were at least four different gauge files (atc_id.zip, atcident.zip, callsig4.zip, and tail_flight_number.zip) posted for FS2004 that picked up the atc_id out of the pertinent aircraft.cfg entry and displayed it on the panel. These had different features ranging from providing a transparent id background plate to, in one case, providing a choice of a grey or tan background plate. Of course, one had to use a gauge statement in the panel.cfg file to invoke it. That also allowed the id plate to be positioned and scaled. It worked for 2d panels I know but I do not know if it also worked for VCs - it should.

Just a nitpick: the 12 rays on the roundel during that period should go all the way to the edge.

If I'm not mistaken, this was the early scheme. Later on, Taiwanese O-1s were painted dark green. The same color was retained after they were transferred to the Taiwan Army.

Pekka, before you hang up your paint brushes on this one, is there any way I could persuade you to make this UK reg Bird Dog?

It's not the most attractive, but it would be nice to have a native version to fly around the UK in.

Failing that, how about a reg change on one of your existing repaints? The blue one for example would look mighty fine.

Here's mine so far. Norwegian biased all of them, even 12199 that came here in 1965 with 2680 hrs on it from previous service in West Germany/US Army.

I understand the Siberians will do an A-model with a pilot wearing a helmet and wheels landing-gear only and I'll probably apply some paints to this future model. In Norway this aircraft type was used as a Field Artillery OP/fire control aircraft as well as a FAC for RNoAF (F-5), KLu (NF-5), CAF (CF-5) and RAF (Jaguar) units.
7375 made a ground loop at the airport/air station that I work in 1980 but was repaired.

Thanks

is it me or the 3rd psd (the fus psd) in the paintkit has a few layers merged into the background?

Yeah, its strange that only wing PSDs have separate detail layers. Also upper cowl locks have to be copied from tile number 3 to tile number 4 for them to appear in the final paint.

Several psd files have baked in shading, rivets etc. I made a multiply layer of them and did an auto contrast enhancement, that way I got a shaded layer from close to white to close to black. Better then the gray. Alternatively use the enhancement on the layer as a normal layer and apply your own paint layer as a multiply above it. This works for me and I'm pretty used to how Andrey does his psds.

Thanks

Yeah I also did some duplicates of the background and use layer transparencies to make my own detail layers.

I bet it was! Thank you, just waiting for it to show up. :salute:

I was flying VH-SCB in multiplayer earlier this afternoon, you may just want to check the registration number on the panel Pekka, it's still showing the French registration. Is this because of the the shared textures?

Yep, all paints use shared VC textures. It would be simple to replace the reg in VC, I just wanted to leave the VC textures alone since they are not part of the paintkit.

Base on the birddog repaint VH-FDS it looks like 01_Texture08_C.dds has the panel registration number in it he added this to his paint texture and shows the correct Number in the VC??? it looks like anyway

There's also a corresponding night VC-texture which you have to tweak, or else when the night comes, the reg in VC magically changes.

Dag
January 10th, 2010, 09:15
Actually, I tested the panel in the A-model, that one has a night texture as well and it seems that that one uses the "day" panel for night as well. All mine have different "radio call" signs and I replaced the green panel with one in dark gull grey like the ones the RNoAF used to use.
I did new bumps for the main external textures as well as I did not like the colour pixelation of the originals around the riveting.
Finally mine are DXT5 1 MB instead of the original 4MB 32-bit, so I guess I'm the odd man out here, not surprisingly:kilroy::kilroy:

Thanks

By the way I noticed I uploaded some older files to soh, so G-PDOG has a few flipped roundels. But from my link you can download the correct version:salute::salute:
