Has anyone been able to get fps limiter working on Win VISTA? Tried it a couple of times where it briefly opens up what looks like a DOS window, then it closes. Can't get it to make the batch file it's supposed to for running FSX. I'd like to try it, but was also wondering what kind of results others are having?

Works for me on Vista 64.

Maybe try an uninstall/reinstall?

Do you have the Java runtime engine installed? It won't work without it, and I don't believe Vista comes with it by default (there's a big rumble between Sun and Microsoft). http://www.java.com/ (http://java.sun.com/)

That little window is the .bat entering something into the command prompt. The exchange will most likely be too fast for you to see, so it'll look like it opened and closed without doing anything.

I used FPS limiter in Vista 64bit as well.

Nevermind - got to the right installer.

Thanks Bill.

Just installed it today on my fresh Win7 64 install. Works as advertised.

Here's a how-to link for installation:

http://www.caveofdistraction.com/2009/07/22/fps-limiter-smoother-gameplay-in-arma2-and-other-titles/

The third step talks about the Java installer. Ensure you install the correct one. There is an installer for 32bit and 64 bit browsers <--- I mentioned browser, not system. There are directions at the Sun java website to determine your type of browser.

the instructions say to launch FSX from the app...what if you have active sky weather and usually launch from active sky? what would i do then?

If I have this set up right. When FSX opens I see the green lettering with Fps 30, now when I launch my flight and hit shift-z I see my fps shooting everywhere using the fsx tool. Do I now ignore this tool or is limiter now in control of this tool?

Just so it's understood, FPS Limiter works only for DX8 or DX9. Some of you may have the DX10 preview enabled which FPS Limiter provides no benefit.

Nick N used to recommend that individuals try this to see if it helps only if you have performed all his OS tuning and fsx.cfg tweaks and you are still seeing visual hiccups on your system.

He no longer recommends it, from my understanding.

It is a try and see approach. If it improves your system continue using it. If it doesn't, get rid of it.

You are talking about the in game Dx10 preview, correct? I know on my computer system outside the game I have DX11 and if this is the case that means i can go ahead and forget this tool.
Sorry for the dumb questions.

Tested it last night on 7 x64. Gave me two to three frames more on add-on airports with traffic.

FSX defaults to DX9, unless you have DX10 Preview enabled. Though you have DX11 on your Win7 system, you must have a Video card that takes advantage of DX11, also the software must be written for DX11. FSX does not use DX11 and reverts to the DX9 capabilities of DX11. I hope I am not confusing you.

In otherwords DirectX, has 9, 10, 11, and I believe 8 in Win7. Software written for certain levels of the DX API will use the appropriate one for which it was made.
