Hi, folks!

I just browsed along avsim and flightsim and apparently, this beauty hasn't been depicted yet:

http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/wildbillkelso_berlin/cv440_acap.jpg

Can this be true?
It seems that not even Tim-HH has done this repaint... http://s1.images.proboards.com/wink.gif

If this really is the case, I'd love to take over!

Cheers,
Markus.

That certainly would be a great livery for the Convair.

Ahhh - dangit!

I just was informed over at calclassic's that the early ACAP livery is already there:

http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=D-ACAP&CatID=root
(FS2002, but works perfectly!)

Well, what about this later, simplyfied version?

Note the long radar nose and the service armada!

A VW Microbus as an airport transport...totally cool!

Many admirers of the Lufthansa bus, I am one. we can but hope Hama or another modeler will try it....
But back to planes:
This is a great project for the 440 longnose, hope to see her!

Well, I think this is going to be a two-in-one package.

This one doesn't look bad either:

http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/wildbillkelso_berlin/cv440_acef.jpg

Stub nose, but the modern, arial-style lettering!

Found these great shots at the Lufthansa archives

http://mediabase.lufthansa.com/fra_ci_presse/EntryAction.do (http://mediabase.lufthansa.com/fra_ci_presse/EntryAction.do)

but it isn't stated there where the photographs were taken.
But anyway a great source for some very good high-resolution pictures!

A member at calclassic's notes that the pic of D-ACAT (the one with the gorgeous VW Bus) was done at EKCH Kopenhagen-Kastrup.

Cheers,
Markus.

Well, I think this is going to be a two-in-one package.

Make that three!

I think the FS2002 repaint of D-ACAP mentioned above, done by Jure Dolanec, may receive some upgrading:

http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/wildbillkelso_berlin/cv440_acap02.jpg

It still bears the "grey windows" and the stub nose and the typical swing line on it isn't quite well depicted on the current model version of the 440.

Enough work for the next days, so stay tuned!

Cheers,
Markus.

Just one more for the ground armada:

http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/wildbillkelso_berlin/cv440_kfer.jpg

Place and time unknown, but as I'm a little familiar with this car and its history, I might add that this specific type of rear license plate lighting (although this one not even carries a license plate...) came with the model year of 1966 - which is by incident my year of birth!

As the Convairs were drawn out of Lufthansa service in 1968, there are at least three years left to guess...
Note the dull fuselage panel in the prop spinning area - I will have to take care with the alpha there!

Reg-No. unknown.

Santa brought me some cans of RAL5013 Kobaltblau and RAL1028 Melonengelb - look what I've done with it:

More to come...

Thanks, Mike!

But this one is going to be hard:
First in the row will be D-ACAD (CV-340) in her rollout-livery:

http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/wildbillkelso_berlin/acad3.jpg

http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/wildbillkelso_berlin/acad2.jpg

I don't quite get the distinctive 'swing' at the nose section done. To me it seems like there are some distorsions in the lower section of the nose cone's mapping hindering me to get a proper depiction of the cheatlines...

Anyway - the ACAD will just be one of four Lufthansa Metros to be done, and the following variants (D-ACAP old colours, D-ACUM new colours, D-ACAT new colours and radar nose) will be a lot easier!

So stay tuned!

Cheers,
Markus.

Hmmmm - that's strange! http://s1.images.proboards.com/huh.gif

Just checked the nose cone with the adjustment grid:

http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/wildbillkelso_berlin/acad_grid.jpg

Doesn't look too much distorted. But tricky at the nose gear flaps. Some more fixing neccessary... :running:

Well - I hereby declare my surrender on my "D-ACAD rollout livery project". http://s4.images.proboards.com/cry.gif
These lines seem to be undepictable!

This was the best I could get:

http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/wildbillkelso_berlin/acad4.jpg

Look how blurred they become at the lower part - impossible for me to fix this!

Anyway, there are still enough variants to be done.
This one is almost ready:

http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/wildbillkelso_berlin/acib1.jpg

http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/wildbillkelso_berlin/acib2.jpg

It's D-ACIB (c/n 408) in her early livery:

http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/wildbillkelso_berlin/ACIBearly.jpg

Note the first (galley?) window in front of the "fuselage panel protection patch".
The stainless steel nacelle panel is already adjusted to its actual size. Now I have to flip all this stuff to the right fuselage side...

Cheers,
Markus.

D-ACAP (c/n 451) in old colours with a wider yellow 'swing' line

http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/wildbillkelso_berlin/acum1.jpg
D-ACUM (c/n 409) in new colours and new letters

No. 4 will be the tragic-fated D-ACAT (c/n 464, crashed at Bremen in 1966) in new colours, old letters and radar nose.

After tinkering a small traffic file, here they are at Bremen:

Thank you, guys!

I decided to put The Dude to Bremen in summertime - otherwise his cool box would look rather ridiculous, with a snow cap of about 30cm (that's one foot for you folks overseas), as we currently have here at "Preußisch Sibirien"... :snowman:

Glad you like it, Bill!

The four Convairliners are just about to hit the skies.
The radar-nosed D-ACAT is No. 4 of this bunch:

http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/wildbillkelso_berlin/ekch.jpg

No VW Bus there at Jens Kristensen's EKCH Kastrup...

And here's the whole gang at Oliver Pabst's amazing Bremen:

http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt112/wildbillkelso_berlin/eddw3.jpg

Too bad that there's no way to get the sound of eight simultaneously cranking up R2800s simulated, but imagine this roar...

Should be up soon.

Markus.

Thanks, mate!

But it's not only the "Alfa Papa" you get:

http://www.flightsim.com/o/lh_4convairs.gif FS2004/FSX Lufthansa Convair CV-440 Metropolitan Pack. Textures only for Calclassic's CV440. This repaint was made using the paint kit by Greg Pepper and Tom Gibson. Repaint by Markus Hellwig.

Flightsim once more screwed up my description text, this is what it should read:

LUFTHANSA CV-440 Metropolitan "four ships" pack. Included are renditions of D-ACIB (1956 livery), D-ACAP (old colours, second version), D-ACUM (new colours and lettering) and D-ACAT (1966 version, new colours and old lettering). These are texture files only! Prior installation of Calclassic's FS2004/FS2002/FSX Continental Air Lines CV-440 Base Pack, available at http://www.calclassic.com/convair.htm is required.
Dunno why they can't manage to copy my words into their database...

Anyway: Go get 'em!

Cheers,
Markus.

Beautiful repaints Markus! What did you use for the prop blur? Some screenies of mine ......

Mike :applause:

Wild Bill Kelso
January 7th, 2010, 23:23
Thanks, Mike!
Glad you like it.

It's the default prop blur. I fiddled with some other files, but even the A-26 Invader's spinprop (done by BananaBob, IIRC) won't do better. In fact, I believe the modeled prop disk rotates quite slowly for the Invader prop to show up nice. Some tweaks on the prop_anim_ratio didn't lead to a better result.
So I left it as it was.

Nice screenies btw. Good to see this bird at my hometown's airport, although (as you all probably know) Lufthansa wasn't allowed to land at Berlin up to 1990, due to the occupation status of Berlin.
Your Convair looks quite shiny - tweaked envmap?

Cheers,
Markus.
