First, a big thank you to all the SOH staff for creating this wonderful subforum :applause:. I guess most photographers like Panther, Kiwikat, NickC, IanP, to name a few, love it...

Some of you (Panther & Kiwikat, that is) may have seen some of my pictures of the event on my Flickraccount (http://www.flickr.com/photos/vdbj/sets/72157622766151521/), most of you haven't, so here I am...
I hope you like them :). If you see a picture which you'd like to see in a larger size (the ones at Flickr are viewable at 1024 pixels), just let me know so I can post them here ;).

In case you wonder which equipment I used for those pictures, it's all in my signature ;). With thanks to Sony for building the 70-400G SSM lens...:medals:.

Beautiful work Joris! :ernae:

To all that have the CoolIris Plug-In on their browser, view Joris's shots in it from his photo collection, you get larger and just as sharp images.

Thanks SOH for the sub-forum.

My guess is that they were taken in color. In the Photoshop era, there's no reason to shoot in black and white anymore. PS gives you complete control when converting to B&W.

William, you're right. The light (and subsequently, the colours) at that moment weren't that good so I decided it would make for a far better picture by turning it into b&w.

The best black & white conversion is done by turning the saturation to 0 in eg Aperture 2 or iPhoto and adding extra contrast, I think. Macs are awesome for photo editing, let me tell you that. I absolutely love it.

I hate Photoshop, I used it at school at a quite powerful computer, already the time it took to load put me off. iPhoto and Aperture are nearly instantaneous regarding load time.

Concerning the Dakota, I'm glad I tried that b&w conversion, many people really liked it, apparently. Guess it was one my lucky shots of that day...

If you like black and white, there are some more black & whites at my Flickr, of a Spitfire, a Focke-Wulf, Nieuport, Fokker Dr.I, etc.

And those are only low resolution...imagine how the originals look like (sorry, just teasing a bit ;))! If you'd like one of them as wallpaper in large format, just let me know :).

If you have to come to the UK (I don't live there myself, unfortunately :D), you just have to come during Flying Legends (or one of IWM Duxford's other airshows, the other ones are great as well, although Flying Legends probably the best of them, with the highest chance of having a bit of decent weather). Ben Hollinsworth of Spitfire web solutions posted a couple of months ago some nice pictures of the American Air Day in August...and the Duxford Air Show. I hope Nick doesn't mind I'm linking to his forum here :) ?

The beast...the Skyraider. Does anyone know which purpose the door in the middle of the fuselage serves (is that 100 % correct English ?) ?I believe the Skyraider (or at least some versions) had some seating in the fuselage for ferrying people. I think 4 maybe?

And... great shots!

If you see how big these machines are, that doesn't come as a surprise to me. Just look at the last picture, made at eye-level - I'm 1m86 tall (6 ft 2 inches ?)...

Wish I could have a flight in one of these. Or an air-to-air photo-shoot with a bunch of those aircraft...

Thank you for the compliments :).

And here we go again...

The 'old', warm feeling some pictures have was done in Aperture 2 by first using a monochrome mixer and then applying a sepia tone.

Hope you like them, do not hesitate to comment! Note that these have been resized by Flickr upon upload through iPhoto and are less sharp than the original PNG full-size files.

Joris~ Bravo on all the shots! Nice looking planes! Did you use a sepia tone at all?
