That's right folks, why have this excellent freeware when you can have this: http://www.fspilotshop.com/product_info.php?products_id=2368

That's darn near enough to drive a person out of the freeware business.

The rather infamous hawkeye sim payware company released a Fallon that IMO, is a bit amateurish for the $9.50 price it is asking. Nope, none is mine that I see (thank goodness).

**********sarcasm alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!****************

I know this has got to be the same guy. . .but it seems that every time someone complains about his stuff, he changes his company name and sticks something else out there, lol.

I don't know how you have the nerve to load up an airport with a bunch of default buildings, make the copy sound like they're custom and then charge anything for it really.

His work would be fine for personal use or somebody who just didn't want to mess with doing it themselves, but no way that's payware quality. I'd be embarrassed to even have my name on that. Geeeze.

It is sad that is being marketed.

It appears that quality is not a prerequisite.

To be honest, if you're stupid enough to glance at the screenshots and still buy the thing, you deserve it.

But yes, it's terrible. Some of the larger companies are also releasing what I would term 'rubbish' for extortionate amounts of money.

That's darn near enough to drive a person out of the freeware business.

Why? Yours is far superior to his attempt. I really find it hard to believe that ANY store would sell his products (or that anyone would buy them!). Wonder if I can write a review without actually buying the product, Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm :engel016:

Unless I misunderstand, all he's doing is selling something he made, right? Why do we want to trash the guy in public? So it's not as good as Jim's. I agree. That isn't a crime. It has already been stated that the work has not been copied, to anyone's knowledge. I thought we reserved this sort of wrath for pirates and such? So, now we're moving on to "also include those who make stuff to sell that members here have made in the form of freeware!" ?? :isadizzy:

Just my opinion, but having seen those screenshots, the price is still too high.

Having been to Fallon several times, I would like to see a lot more detail!

Well I've been there a few times myself, and there's no question Jim's is better. I understand Jim's frustration and his point. But some people around here sound like a bunch or hyper-popular sorority girls whispering and giggling in the cafeteria about the “new girl” from across town. “Oh my god, did you see the shoes she was wearing? I'm never talking to her. Eeeww, and that dress! Oh my God!” :icon_lol:

Actually I started to do that and thought better of it, Instead I sent him an e-mail. Not ugly or anything like that, simply asking questions about what objects he uses and if any custom work was included.
It'll be interesting to see if he replies.

That is the best part about the Outhouse. It's what makes this place better than any other forum out there. We all have our differences from time to time, and some of us more than others, but it usually ends with a laugh and everything's good.

I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't harass Lionheart anymore! :ernae: :icon_lol:

Thanks to all the mods, members, and especially Ickie, for keeping this place fun. :medals: :applause:

Jim, sure am glad for your work. All I have to do is see your name attached to a scenery and I for one am on board. Your Fallon work is superb as I said when it came out. Keep up the good work and especially the previews of the wips. Much appreciated.

For those of us spend hours sweating in FSDS and Gmax/3 DS Max to create unique buildings for our scenery projects it's often galling when some 'get rich quick' simmer comes along with scenery built from FSX default objects. Probably some kid in his bedroom thinking " Hey I can make a bit of money here." We could offer him the wealth of our collective knowledge so he can design his own models to "improve" his offerings.
In the meantime rather than ridicule his scenery perhaps we should encourage him to create more.

"Why?" you may ask. Well it's doing wonders for Team SDB sales. Hehe! Wonderful scenery let's have more. :applause::applause::ernae:

Serously though we all had to start somewhere it's just that most of us cut their teeth on Freeware first.

"The Pirate base looks like it just ties into the city, and vanishes away into the Auto Generated city." Is that because it IS autogen?

falcon409

I wrote to the e-mail addy they posted for support, basically suggesting that maybe their addons needed to be posted via flightsim.com or AVsim rather than charging for it.

His reply was laced with suggestions that there were, in fact, custom buildings that he did for all his sceneries and that while he did find default objects "boring" that he went beyond that by adding "other objects" to liven the scenery up and make it more "realistic". He also made it very clear that he felt he deserved to be paid for the work he did and that future releases would contain "even more" custom work. I had asked him about adding photoreal imagery for groundcover and he had no idea how that was done and neither did anyone else on his "team".

So, either he didn't get what I was trying to tell him, in a nice way, or he simply doesn't really care what anyone thinks and is perfectly happy to design airports using default objects and then charging for it.

Jim, you have great scenery addon. Have most of them.

Your competition may just be learning scenery design. He may also learn about the economics of marketing. In any event he may someday develop into a serious designer. Don't want to be too harsh on a persons early efforts.

I'm still trying to get my head round the term "Static AI" yet. Can some AI guru on here please explain it in simple terms to me. :)

basically it is an AI flight that only moves once during the night, so in all theory it is static as it just sits on the tarmac most of the time.

That says it all for me :rolleyes:. When using defauilt objects and the tools others have made (including MS) it takes most of the work out of it. Thanks Ed for posting that.

I have no qualms with him getting paid. He works . I guess my problem is that he gets front page access with (IMO) trash and I have to beg to even have my stuff announced. All because of a few bucks, a site will showcase this kind of stuff and will pass good freeware stuff off. I guess every little bit helps. I'm done.

That's another thing I mentioned to him in the e-mail. . .he refers to the aircraft on the aprons as "StaticAI" which as you say Michael denotes an AI aircraft that flies but remains static for most of the time and only flies late at night. Unfortunately his aircraft are scenery objects and aren't true AI aircraft. He never answered that one, lol.
