I've just bought the standard 'CD in a box' package which shows a 'level' of 3.0
Could a kindly soul give me a steer for all the remaining patches that I need?
Thanks.

My big question is why you did not buy IL46?

http://yhst-12000246778232.stores.yahoo.net/ilst19.html

Upgrade it to patch 408 and 409.

and get upgrade 1.8 here http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2896187/MOD_Ultrapack_1_8_IS_OUT.html#Post2896187

It includes the Pacific Fighter edition as well with all its upgrades. This way you can not only fly in Pacific Theater but also in the Eastern Front as well. I also recommend you to get Paul Lowengrin DCG program in here http://www.lowengrin.com/news.php .

Believe me I love Carrier wars as well. But I do like to fly in Eastern Front also!

The Air war in World war two was very diversified. Let take advatage of it and fly in every Theater!

Enjoy and wathch your Six!

Evidently Il2: Forgotten Battles and Il2: Pacific Fighters are still being produced and sold, even though both are obsolete and cannot be upgraded. I think it is also difficult to find an online server that still uses either of these programs. The current version is Il2: 1946, it comes as version 4.07, but most servers run 4.08, a few may now use 4.09 patches.

Thanks for that input. I have installed the patches 3.03 to 4.04, so fingers are crossed.

Point taken about your comments. I thought I'd give Pacific Fighters a whirl, but it didn't like those patches at all, so I've returned to the basic 3.0 again.
As to what to buy, my enthusiasm until now has been for Falcon and Lomac, hence my thoughts of widening my 'sphere of influence'. But with Christmas coming up....

One of the problems with the early versions of Il2 was the flight models. They tended to be old school, with little to no torque effect from the props. This was fixed with patch 4.01 (leaked patch) and 4.03, then 4.04 desynched the firing rates of the machine guns, but induced a nasty yaw while firing the guns in many U.S. fighters. This was fixed in the next payware version of the sim (I don't think it is available now) and in the current version, Il2:1946. The current version also brings more planes and more maps and should you ever decide to enter the dark side of Il2, known as modding, then you must have the current version. Some of the mods, like the modded sounds and effects, are just fantastic as are the maps added with the mod packages.

I've found the same!! - I installed PF and patched thru to 4.04 but found it to be really bad - just playing the USN / P40 / PH attack 2 quickmission I found the P40 couldn't outrun A6M2's but also that I could turn and fight with them no worries. The P40 wouldn't lose airspeed properly with power reduction or accelerate properly when nose down either - which made landing feel really wierd.

After uninstalling and reinstalling the basic 3.0 game the P40 behaves as you'd expect - airspeed behaves properly according to power and attitude and Zero's CAN'T keep up - so I can run clear, gain height and make fast passing attacks consistent with historical accounds of Zero vs P40 encounters. Also, takeoff is somewhat more difficult in 3.0 - I don't know if it's more REALISTIC (I'm very mindful that harder isn't necessarily more realistic) but it definitely takes more concentration and effort. After flying 4.04 for a few days where I really didn't have to think much at all during takeoff - after going back to 3.0 I pranged the first couple of takeoffs until I woke up that I needed to pay attention.

Overall 3.0 feels much more "right" than 4.04 which is really odd!!
