OK - sorry for so many questions ....

I've had some fun with the stock Pacific campaign - wondering if a simple Royal Navy campaign exists. I'm hoping it'll have (or that I can modify to use) either the AH Seafire or AH Sea Hurricane. I believe there are some nice RN carriers (FS Shipyard folks) out there ... something that ties this all together, or with some basic modification ...

Also, any "must have" addons - I hear rhumbafloppy (sp?) has killer meshes ...

Huge thanks to all from this newbie ...

Hi D_L,

As yet there are no campaigns centred around the ops of the East Indies or British Pacific Fleets.

Sea Hurricanes weren't used in the Far East as by the time there was a significant RN presence in theatre these had been superceded by American types.

Seafires were much in evidence, and the other British types involved were Barracudas and Fireflies.
All the usual American suspects were present in the form of Wildcats, Hellcats, Corsairs and Avengers.

The most widely used types (Wildcat/Martlet, Hellcat, Avenger and Corsair) are all readily available as stock repaints, and Fireflies and Seafires can be found as "new" aircraft. British carriers, battleships, cruisers and destroyers are all available and easily added for use in the mission builder, too.

I'am afraid you will have to create them yourself. With Coyoties Tutorial it should not be to hard.If you need the AC I willing to help you out. There are a bunch of British Royal Navy Skins Available in the SOH CFS2 download section that will allow you to convert the Hellcat and Avengers and other AC in to British AC.

Now if cannot find them. You can send me by PM your E-mail I"am more than willing to send them to you as soon as possible!

Great responses.

Maybe I'll start simple - I'm curious to do one of the stocks USN campaigns - but with the replacement of the player aircraft. Hellcat replacement would be, just that - I will look for a stock Hellcat repaint in RN colours; the Corsair - I'd like to use the AH version - how do I make the campaign give me the option of using the AH version?

Finally, on the subject of AH - anyone seen the "conversion kit" for making the AH Seafire work in the sim? For example, there is a 4-part download to convert the AH Hurricane from FS9 to CFS2 - since I see (and have been using in FS9) Morton's awesome repaints for it, I'm assuming there are appropriate dp, cfg files for it somewhere ....

thanks

Yes, sure. Check the files of Buddha13 in the download section:

Simple ... use Moton's mk_cfs2_util_v2

This allows you to easily change aircraft & ships in any mission in either a campaign or single mission.

:applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause:

This should be regarded as a MUST HAVE CFS2 tool.

Find it here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&page=info&FileID=2586 (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/../index.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&page=info&FileID=2586)

Might want to tweak the damage stats for the carriers in the RN forces, some may not know but the British carriers had armoured flight decks unlike either the INJ or the USN and took damage much better and stayed in action after bomb hits that would have sent USN flat tops to the shipyard. :) Great to hear you may put something together. It meant a lot to the RN to make it back to the Pacific after the dark days at the start of the Japanese campaign.

I've an idea that if you try to use the AH Corsair in a player formation rather than as a single aircraft it causes the game to crash. Check this in a quick combat.

I'd suggest you try two things:

(i) opening up a US mission in Wordpad and simply doing a "search and replace" on the player a/c

(ii) follow CC's "Beginner's Luck" tutorial but substituting the operating area (off Japanese coast?) a/c and ships you want

Good luck, and please keep us posted.

I second what Dirtman said about MK CFS2 Utility. It is an indispensable tool. It makes it very easy to swap aircraft and ships in and out of missions and campaigns. You can instantly see what you don't have, or simply want to change, and swap it for something something else. All of this with about two mouse clicks.

Right on GR!

Plus you can also use it to check newly installed campaigns & single missions to see if you have all the a/c & ships called for in them ..... missing units are displayed in red and can be easily substituted from the list.

I've found this saves lots of time & many "can't find" messages.

I think you would really enjoy the Korean campaign called Oceanfury by the Fox Four group found here: http://www.simviation.com/lair/cfs2korea.htm
This is one of my all-time favorite campaigns. It is truly a high-quality campaign.

Indeed, that's on my list next. I thought, though, I'd progress through a bit of a "career" a bit of WWII Pacific flying, and then get deployed to Korea 5 years later ... :)

In light of this thread regarding Hellcats .... http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=26714, I'm guessing the Royal Navy Hellcats would be a nice addition.

I'm assuming there are RN repaints for it - Can't try it, I'm on vacation with the family ...:wiggle:

cheers,

I am sure I've seen others, though. Simviation, maybe?

Ah - here's one!

Gracias DH - very good lead!!

A quick question regarding the AH Seafire. Have it "converted", using the latest conversion file by Buddha (AH_Shiny_SeafireIII Conversion, dated Jan 23-2004). The plane flies well, but I get error messages everytime I select it, a string of 6 or so messages indicating various weapon models are missing. Any ideas?

I have a Seafire III which I think is based on the AH one. I'll see if I can find the original filename for it.

Weapons names include things like spit_slipper_tank and all show up, so I must have got them from somewhere! I just did a search and they seem to be in a file called spitfupd.zip. It is a Spiteful, which I haven't got, but it should get the weapons for you if they are the ones you are after!

OK - I've had a look on my CD's and the Seafire file you want is sfcfs2_seafire.zip. Unfortunately I can't find it online, and it is 3Mb. The readme says "CFS2 version includes the full Spitpak custom weapons library", which is encouraging. The names in the readme are Marc Siegel and Martin Wright, but no email address.

The Spitfire here http://www.simviation.com/cfs2aircraft1.htm includes the weapons pack, so maybe if the Seafires are related they are what you need - they sound similar.

revev did some BPF Hellcats, Avengers etc for B-24s Stock overhauls as I helped with research. They're here at the Outhouse.

Thanks DH and Collin .... Indeed DH, the one in your image looks like the AH Seafire.

So, if I understand you both correct, the pack on Martin's site is indeed the file I need to fully arm the AH Seafire - missing slipper tank, rockets, etc? The file references the SAAF Spitfire by "Cryingtoto". Just want to confirm these will work with the AH Seafire.

Tell me I'm not the only one who cracked up when I saw this file on their site...

I think that's the weapons pack you need, but I can't really check as I have the weapons already so downloading won't make a difference either way.

As for the pic, I believe one of the BBMF Spitfires (AB910?) actually did fly a very brief circuit during the war with a WAAF handler clinging to the tailplane.

You're correct, AB910 did take off with a WAAF attached!
