Now that patch 4.09 has been out for awhile, what's the consessus on the patch. How are the new aircraft and the effect on the sim?

The patch is great. Best is, imho, that you can set horizonline from 32km to 72km...that changes the sim dramatically. Terrain is suddenly HUGE.

I have just started to relearn to fly after a major operation on my right hand, which had stopped my flying for close to a year. So far I have enjoyed the enhanced capabilities with patch 4.09 immensely and the program has been running very smoothly, no problems at all.

After you have upgraded to 4.09 I recommend for you to upgrade in a another IL46 install upgrade to 1.8 here http://188.40.43.119/ultrapack/ or here

http://il2ultrapack.net46.net/index.php/topic,590.0.html

You will get lot more Maps and AC plus other items. You will see what great this Sim really is!:icon29:

It is worth noting that the UltraPack upgrade is not an official patch or addon, it is a modification set for Il2:1946 that adds more planes and maps and is fantastic for offline flying. Being an un-official mod, flying online with a server that does not use these mods is likely to result in an inability to connect.

Before I screw up my IL-2 1946 4.08 installation, I'll ask the obvious. How does the 4.09 patch install?

It installs the way any other patch does. You can steer it to the default location or where ever you have it at. If you are concerned that there may be issues with 409, copy your current install and if there's a problem, you'll have a back up.

Tenspeed, I was noticing that the link I saw had 409 broke up into packets sort of like MAW and wondered it it had an installer that would install it after you got all the packets downloaded or if you had to unzip and place the contents your self.

It is broken up into three segments. The installer takes care of the patch and the additional "skins" package. The pdf file gives you the manual. I installed mine over 4.08 without any problems.

The site I saw seemed to have a half dozen segments, maybe slightly more. Where did you download it?

Sorry Waco, I miss understood what you meant. I'm not sure where I got the update but you can get it here

http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Pro_News&aid=275

It also might be available from the IL2 official site.

You also might check into a few of the add-ons that greatly enhance the sim with alot of planes and maps.

Here is the Ubisoft site:

Take your pick. I went for the English Version, the skins, the manual and I forgot to tell you about the Readme. So there are four files to download.

The following thread in the Ubisoft forums may also be helpful:

Thanx all for your help getting my head out. Downloaded three 4.09.exe's from Ubisoft forums before I got a good one, but all is good now. Up and running. Thanx, again.

Cool.

You should look into some of the add-ons too. They and a crap load of maps and planes. Makes 46 much better.

How do you set the horizon line?
