After winning the Italian GP at Monza, Schumacher announced that he will retire at the end of the 2006 season. He will continue to work for Ferrari in the future, but in what role he will do so, will be announced later.
Schumacher's seat will be filled by Kimi Raikkonen, who has signed for three seasons with the Scuderia. Felipe Massa will retain his seat in the other Ferrari.

Schumacher's career in F1 started in 1991 with Jordan (Only one race). He drove for Benetton until 1995, and has spend eleven years with the Italian team. In those years he has broken almost every record in F1, and he has some incredible stats:

Out of 247 races (Including Monza) he has won 90 (71 with Ferrari), 68 (58) pole-positions and 75 (52) fastest racelaps. He has scored the amazing amount of 1,354 points, of which he scored 1,051 in a Ferrari.

Because Alonso retired with a blown engine, the gap in the drivers' championship in down to two points, with three races to go.
