17? new 17??

As Lewis said ... (this is my opinion as I am definately not in the loop of those who know,)

But its a rework of A2A's already excellent FSX B-17 ... some enhancements, (hopefully working gun stations and turrets) and of course the increasingly popular accu-sim.

I can't wait!

Noticing minor texture allignment stuff here & there, though overall the
models are improving greatly, flight dynamics noticably improving as well.
Nice, complex flavorings throughout the animations, the flight manual &
operations all included. Am confident that you guys are pleased with the
fine work here. Your love for the P-38 is readily coming through here &
now. This project of yours is feeling as it's alive, almost "organic".

Just downloaded and installed the updated version. Paint schemes are greatly improved and look sharp. The switches in the cockpit work and do not lock up my computer. A little disappointed to see the switch marked "fluorescent lights" still activates the recognition lights. I have not yet had the opportunity to check out the flight dynamics.

Wow... me neither now, jankees. Odd too, as it is a website visited often here, linked from: http://p38assn.org/Personnel/photo-recon.htm

The version was clearly posted as a blue-gray one, with shark teeth on both engine nacelles. A wealth of others there, as well. Now all that is found is that pesky 404 message.

Maybe it will come back soon... hopefully. Thanks for the response.

Wormingford is actually the only one I've done at the moment which was an active P-38 station, which was the 55th FG. The CL-V paint from the base pack is 55th FG, so I wouldn't worry about me. I'm catered for. :d

However, if there were any vaguely interesting schemes flown by them, the 14th FG flew P-38s from Atcham in Shropshire for a while. Both squadrons in the Group at the time operated Lightnings, the 48th FS - Coded "ES" - only flew the P-38J, while the 49th FS - Coded "QU" flew F, G and J models. Atcham is on my list for a number of reasons, so if there's anything worth doing for the 14th FG's early liveries, that would be appreciated. I strongly suspect there won't be, however, as they were far more active in other theatres after leaving Britain. They just used the Shropshire hills to get used to claggy European weather before going into combat, I strongly suspect, as most of the flying from Atcham was P-47s rather than P-38s.

Hi guys

I would like to know if I am the only one having this display error with the F-5E? When it is on the ground with the engines running, the props cast a solid disk-like shadow on the ground:

http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/oo110/kimdahl_2008/P38-1.jpg

As you can see, the P-38 models look correct without disks:

http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/oo110/kimdahl_2008/P38-2.jpg

I have checked the texture.cfg files on the F-5E model, and they seem to be OK, so could this be a problem with the model itself?

I made a total uninstall of the old version before installing the 3.1 version, so there should not be any old files causing this error.

Best regards
Kim Dahl

X_eidos2
November 11th, 2009, 16:35
The prop shadow problem is not with your set-up, nor anything you can fix on your end. Looks like Stitz will have to go back and make a change to the prop disc material. There's a tiny little box in the material editor in the "Enhanced Parameters" section called "no shadow" that needs to be checked. Easy to miss. Easy to fix. Getting the patch updated again - well let's say I know at least two guys who will be slapping their foreheads and saying various things.

I managed to tweak a bit more, still struggling with the scaling on the tail, and I need to put a bit more exhaust fumes on one of the radiators, but slowly progressing.
What is annoying that we have distortions on exactly those surfaces you need to paint, the tail, radiators and the nose...we'll get there though.
Any comments or mistakes you've spotted?

After a little searching I came up with Commander Antione de Saint-Exupery from this site for the last scheme:

"Comander" Saint-Exupery is the author of worldliteratur like "the small Prince", "Nightflight", "Southcourier" and "Wind, sand and stars", the later three novels about his postflying actions in the 20ies and 30ies in Southamerica and Northafrica. Hihgly recommended readings, which even inspired Bill Gates to have flightsimulation as part of Microsoft....

One thing I really like is that the transparency of the windows from within the cockpit is very high. I don't like really dirty windows, they obscure the scenery and clouds too much. Also I like the subtle use of internal reflections on the cockpit glass. :jump:

I've wondered why the change from highly reflective mirrors on the cockpit side of the engines to what seems to be bump mapped mirrors. Not a big deal. Guess it was easier to improve the overall look of the plane this way.

When exceeding some speed limitation, there is NO control of the plane and a crash is emminent. Sure would be nice if there was the capablilty to have some damage reduce the flyability of the plane as in some of the combat sims, rather than have a sudden complete disability. But that is probably not a capability with FSX.

The P38 is a great product and I love it.

stansdds
November 20th, 2009, 03:39
The P-38 became notorious for the controls becoming ineffective to completely useless in a high speed dive. The dive flaps installed in late model P-38J's and all P-38L's helped alleviate the problem.

He is getting a few days to visit after the business trip he had to make here to the U.S. I'll be visiting with him, but when he heads back on Tuesday I'll be catching up with website work like getting the upgraded P-38 images up, declaring winners for the monthly contest and starting a new one, and anything else that is unfinished that is bugging me.

I had only one primary issue with the last one, which I brought up with the Sky Unlimited people in private, and which nobody else ever mentioned here, which was very surprising to me, since this aspect of the P-38 was sort of famous, and "missing", as it were, in the first version. All the other improvements are most welcomed too! Bravo Zulu!
