Sopwith,

I appreciate your work on the Lightning very much. Is there any way you could do some skins for the 20th Fighter Group? I'm going to be converting a CFS1 campaign to give the Der Gabelschwanz Teufel some action over the Third Reich.

The CFS2 version is no longer available on DCC's website which Sopwith has linksd on his paintshop page. DCC has updated his page and only FS2004 versions are available. Don't know where the CFS2 version can be had.

Sigh...I shoula checked that first. :icon_lol:

Well.....actually, the 20th Fighter Group didn't exclusively use the "J" model, they actually used the "H" model as well which is in David Copley's pack. Could you perhaps do one silver and one olive for her?

Good 'ol flightsim.com has the following P-38 variants by Mr Copley :

CFS2 Lockheed P-38J-15 Droop Snoot
CFS2 Lockheed P-38J-15
CFS2 Lockheed P-38L-5-LO
CFS2 Lockheed P-38M Night Lightning
CFS2 XP-38N
FS2002/CFS2 Lockheed F-5E-2 (a particlular favourite of mine).

Dunno if those are what you need ?

Hey, the Italian front skin fits perfectly Copley's "G" variant included in his Triple Pack!

Since the repaint called for a P-38G I tried it on and....FINALLY I HAVE A LIGHTING WHICH ACTUALLY FLEW IN ITALY!

My passed away dad memories recalled a flight of Lightnings, very easy to remember due to the twin boom tail and US star-n-bar insignia, strafing the main road from Piacenza to Bologna a few days before May 13th, 1944 the day my hometown was bombed.

Word came from the partisans that it was a sort of warning for the civilians to stay away from towns and the main roads, since major attacks were due soon.

My dad described the P-38's in natural metal with spinners and tails painted red.

I know it's a bit vague description, but is there any Lightning unit that operated in the Northern Italian theatre with such colours? And if so could I ask for a repaint of Copley's Lightning?

Cheers!

Hi Stefano,

I found this 15th AF Scheme ?

Hi Stefano,

I found this 15th AF Scheme ?

WOW, SC!

THAT WAS QUICK!

This paint scheme must be it! As a matter of fact my mom used to say the NOSE was red and not the tail, my dad was adamant the tails were painted red.

I must add that two teenagers, my mom was 13 and my dad 16, scared out of their wits by the war, obviously could not remember exactly what they witnessed.

I think you hit the nail: red nose and spinners, 15th USAAF operating out of Southern Italian airfields. WE GOT IT! :jump:

Now, kind gentleman, how can I bribe you into painting Copley's "L" model for CFS2 in this livery? :d

I also uploaded prop textures and exh smoke effects for Copley's P-38 series a while ago.....

Thank you!

Thank you very much, SC.

I really appreciated it. Another little piece of history in my CFS2.

Here's "Lucky Lady" patrolling the Eastern Po Valley, North of Bologna, just past the Po river in the early fall of 1944.....

The aircraft is Dave Copley's P-38L for CFS2. There's a wee problem in texture mapping since the pilot shows up untextured, while his jacket texture is plastered on the VC dash. I am sure it's just a small problem that I can fix with little effort.

Cheers!
