And, I have reverted to older drivers to try and solve the issue (93.71)
scenery textures appear sharp and clear close up...for example, you can see the clear water textures and it looks like a huge square block below the airplane....but outside of the block, you see the colors, but they are all blurry. same with land textures.
Clouds dont look so great either, but are blurry and spotty close up, but look good at a distance. I was running the newest drivers, but changed to the older one to see if it would appear better. I remember running il2 with good looking scenery, only to lose clarity when I upgraded to the newest drivers.

Warhawk, i have a 7600 GS under DX 9.0c and v162.50 drivers. My basic 3D settings are set as:
32 bit color quality
1280x1024 desktop resolution [and the same for CFS2]
"Balanced" between performance and quality
Anisotropy - 4x
Antialiasing - Application controlled
Trilinear mipmapping
Vertical Sync - Application controlled [use 3D application's settings]
All texture filters set to ON or Allow
You then have to go into the sim's settings and get very generous on ALL, and i repeat, ALL graphical settings - all boxes ticked in graphical hardware settings; all boxes ticked in scenery settings with all sliders maxed except for max visibility, set it between 25-30, that's all you really need when flying at altitude.

Matched the settings to yours, no improvement....shame too, I like the new pactex package...might have to go back to stock textures :banghead:

Yeah, the CFS2 clouds are a tough read for Nvidia cards anyway. I get this on some cloud installs too. You'll have to search out and experiment with several replacement downloads to find something better. Because everyone has different systems and system settings, solving complex graphics problems in an online forum is usually a crap shoot. What works for one guy doesn't for another. I never had any display issues with pactex, but i use Stiz's terrain and water textures currently for PTO.

I did try them, same issue. The ones Bear sent me are the best...only occasional vertical lines.
Thanks, Bear!

Guys, I don't know if this will help you all, but I have an nVidia 7300 and use Riva Tuner 2.09 overdrive on it. My graphics are excellent.

I always run RT 2.1 in my systray from startup and have tweaked it silly. It helps, but its not the final solution for me on all sims and games. And...as the brand upgrades evolve, i.e. 7300, 7600, 7800 and so on, so does the global compatibility question. Just in my CFS2 sim alone i've seen many subtle differences in how the sim's graphical engine cooperates with each new upgrade. Some CFS2 IQ scenery aspects that looked OK with legacy card releases like my old FX 5200 have not measured up to the same performance with the newer cards. On the other hand, some improvements have been noted as well, particularly in sustained higher FPS and image loading time due to higher on-card memory and other factors.

My thanks to Gavin for making the clouds- they are beautiful. And to you for passing them along. And thanks to you for the driver installation help.
WRT Chris, I dont see you having any problems with vertical lines in the clouds...we have the same card....whats your secret? from time to time I do see such things. Much more so when ActiveSky or FSMetar is generating heavy weather and depending upon my point of view and proximity to them. Not so much when I create it myself in the CFS2 weather dialogs.
The screenies I posted above seem to be image edge free- guess I got lucky.
Sometime one also sees the clouds edge on. This is caused by any sort of textual overlay such as the tactical display, status messages, HUD or SHIFT+Z readout.
