Well a late start is better than nothing at all so here goes.....hope all my ducks are in the same pond!

Skyking53 is flying from EGUN to EDDF in the Cessna 414 Chancellor

.....now it's on to Melbourne!

Skyking53
October 26th, 2009, 07:34
Landed safely at EDDF
Was pretty much an uneventful flight. Had around a 25 knt tail wind the entire way and encountered some haze at Frankfurt, but everything went well. On to Leg 2.....

Flying from EDDF to LOWW

Skyking53
October 26th, 2009, 10:26
Down safely at LOWW.

It was a nice flight, again mainly uneventful. Arrived in Vienna just after sundown. Think I'll spend the night and get some sleep.....

Skyking53 is flying from LOWW to LROP
I have the baton!

Skyking53
October 27th, 2009, 10:01
Have arrived at LROP in beautiful Bucharest, Romania.

Flight went well and was able to sneak into the airport between light rain storms. Climbed to 13,000 ft along the way -- my highest so far, but then there's always tomorrow.....

Skyking53

I am flying from LROP to LTAC in the Cessna 414.

Skyking53
October 28th, 2009, 09:46
Landed successfully at LTAC in beautiful Ankara, Turkey. Another leg closer to Melbourne! While flying over the Black Sea, I marveled at the amount of water below me. Then I realized I was only looking at the surface. Something perhaps for one to ponder during long, uneventful flights.....

Photos, Randy. The Press want some pictures! ;)

Skyking53
October 29th, 2009, 07:40
Drat! A computer glitch or something caused a "Fatal Error" and therefore an aborted flight from LTAC to LTCH. However, since I am using this race as a learning experience, I will fly this leg again, to include pictures for the press this time.

Skyking53
October 29th, 2009, 15:43
Landed safely at last in majestic Sanliurfa, Turkey (LTCH). Can't wait to sample some of the local fare -- only hope my stomach agrees with me when we're finished.....

Taking off from LTCH enroute to ORBI

Now its Baghdad or Bust!.....

Skyking53
October 30th, 2009, 11:27
Busted!! Suffered another "Fatal Error" which caused the flight to abort. Need to track down the culprit, initiate a remedy, and fly this leg again.....

Skyking53
October 31st, 2009, 08:58
Finally put down at ORBI! WooHoo!!!

Ah, the enchanting city of Baghdad, capital and largest city of Iraq. Think maybe I'll take some time to stroll around one of the local market places. Might find that perfect souvenir just waiting to be had -- perhaps a special lamp or one-of-a-kind carpet. Who knows.....

Back in the air once again -- taking off from ORBI enroute to OIBB.

Hoping for clear skies and a stiff tailwind.....

Skyking53

Skyking53
November 1st, 2009, 14:35
Down safely at OIBB in Bushehr, Iran. A good flight. Experienced some lightning and thunder shortly after leaving Baghdad. A good tailwind never fully developed, but made pretty good time anyway. Hoping for a little more interesting scenery in the future however.....

Departing OIBB for OIZJ in the Cessna 414 Chancellor.

Skyking53

Skyking53
November 2nd, 2009, 12:27
Down with no problems at OIZJ, Jask, Iran. Fairly uneventful flight with nothing much to see but sand, sea, and sky so didn't snap any worthwhile pictures. Maybe things will improve next leg.....

I have the baton at OIZJ and it is aimed for OPKC.

Skyking53
November 3rd, 2009, 10:40
Down at OPKC in captivating Karachi, Pakistan. Was a pretty hazy arrival with visibility only 4 miles, but all went well. Ahhh, Karachi! According to my sources, it is not only Pakistan's largest city, main seaport , and financial mecca, but also the 3rd largest city in the world by population. Only goes to figure there should be something going on somewhere I suppose, so I had better bring my logbook up to date then venture out for a quick look around.....

Skyking53
November 4th, 2009, 05:09
Cessna 414 is departing OPKC for VIAL.

Skyking53
November 4th, 2009, 09:35
Down and parked at VIAL in charming Allahabad, India, located on the confluence on the Ganges and the Yamuna rivers and the second compulsory checkpoint on the sky-road to Melbourne. My co-pilot, "Moose" Johansson, tells me the world's first official airmail delivery left Allahabad on February 18, 1911. How he knows these things I'll never understand.....

Onward we go..... Departing VIAL enroute to VECC......

Skyking53

Skyking53
November 5th, 2009, 13:18
Here we are, safe and sound at VECC in Kolkata, India, formerly known as Calcutta, on the east bank of the River Hooghly. With a surrounding population exceeding 15 million, there are plenty of folks out there to meet. Moose says he knows a little place that serves up a delightful "macher jhol" (fish curry) with rice, and to top it off a tantalizing "mishti doi" (sweet yoghurt) for dessert. Hey, what a guy......

I have the baton in my back pocket at VECC heading for VYYY.....

Skyking53
November 6th, 2009, 11:23
Made it all the way to VYYY in magnificent Yangon, Myanmar. Also known as Rangoon and the former capital of Burma, I'm told the climate here is "tropical monsoon". However, Moose heartily assures me that November marks the end of the rainy season. Still, I wonder where I stowed that umbrella.....

Departing VYYY enroute to VTSB.....

Skyking53

Skyking53

Skyking53
November 8th, 2009, 13:58
Down at WSSL in the sovereign city-state of Singapore, the smallest nation in Southeast Aisa and the third compulsory checkpoint stop on our journey to Melbourne. Looks like we made it just in time too, with the sun rapidly setting and a whopper of a storm brewing. Moose and I need to hurry up and get this baby tied down before it gets any darker cause there's certainly a feel of rain in the air.....

Skyking53

Skyking53
November 9th, 2009, 09:40
Skyking53 is down at WIHH. I must regretfully inform the committee however, that the landing did not go well this time and a crash did occurred at that time. Both pilots are fine and I believe the damage can successfully be repaired in short order. Cause of incident has not yet been determined beyond poor piloting. Repairs will commence immediately with the goal of returning to the air ASAP.

Regretfully,

"G'day Mates!" Have arrived safely at Compulsory Checkpoint #4, YPDN, in the "Land Down Under", Darwin, Australia. A little cloudy on the way in, but all went well. Just got here but am anxious to move on already as Melbourne is not that far away (relatively speaking).....

Don't know for sure what happened. Computer crashed and forced me to abort this flight, however there was no record in my Duenna output folder except the SystemLog.TXT for 2009-11-16. Will try and fly this leg again later.....

I would like to take a moment and thank the Committee and those involved in the 2009 London To Melbourne Challenge and say what a fantastic job! Unfortunately, engine problems and the inability to complete repairs on a timely basis took me out of the race at Darwin (actually a major computer crash), I had an enjoyable time nonetheless. And while I was never in contention as far as the actual race was concerned I did accomplish the goals which I originally set for myself, that being the correct use of the Duenna system and proper reporting.

Thanks again to those involved in this venture. I look forward to next year and some serious racing. Job well done guys!
