Avoid ibuypower. They have absolutely awful reviews on newegg. I don't know anything about the others though. :kilroy:

I was wondering if anyone out there has bought a PC from any of these manufacturers and if you have what do you think of them? Information on the web can be confusing sometimes, you see a site that only has rave reviews and the next site for the same manufacturer only have really bad reviews.

This will sound like I'm bragging I am not. It is simply a testimony how badly they build their units. I wouldn't buy from any one of these. I have had to replace almost every one of these with a custom unit. And it was hell getting them to take their PC back. You lose anywhere from 15-20% for a restocking fee.

Either get a custom build from someone in your town with specs we can give you, buy from one of the builders in here, or I happen to know based on multiple tests at TechCorp that Gateway FX6801 series units with 6GB Corsair 1600mhz memory and either the GTX260 or GTX285 is a very good medium range i7 Core unit and can be purchased for less than $1500. You will have make the dealer put Corsair Dominator 1600mhz triple channel memory, but if your persist they will do it.

I would personnally stay away from all of these as others have suggested . I am very biased I guess as I recently had one built from one of our own right here at SOH . Sorry Mason(Harleyman) for the shameless plug but my new rig is kicking FSX's butt , especially since i just upgraded to WIN7(Seams to get along very well FSX) as many have attested to . VERY happy with this build .

I agree with Crusader that Harleyman builds a great unit that runs FSX extemely well. I only service Texas New Mexico and Louisiana.

I bought from Cyberpower!! :wavey:

During that time (well over 2 years ago) there was only a small difference between their price and what the components would have cost at Newegg. They are also local to me, so I could pick the system up and avoid a hefty shipping charge. I chose to spec name brand components.

The system has worked well enough and I like to believe I'm able enough to fix anything that might go wrong.

What did occur was my getting the BBB (BigBlackBox) home and finding the four fans from the side panel of the case were MIA. Thus began their support experience... Trying to call at different hours meant long times spent on hold, generally ending up with the call being dropped. Emails to the sales person referred me to the support phone number and on it went. A tad frustrated, I went to Resellerratings.com and posted about the problems I was having. Unannounced, a Fedex truck showed up about four days later with a box from Cyberpower that contained my four case fans... I've had no need to contact them since, nor would I look to purchase a system from them in the future.

If and when the time comes for a new system, I will build my own.

I too purchased a unit from Cyberpower a little over 2 years ago. Two SATA cables went bad, the first within 2 months. Since I'm not a builder or hardware freak it was a chore locating the problem the first time. The problem dumped my O/S, but was recoverable with a lot of effort.

I selected parts, many of which were recommended here at SOH. The unit has been working well ever since fixing the cable problem. I'm not confident enought to build my own. Yes, I could put the parts in etc.. but the settings would be far beyond my reasoning.

I would consider buying again from Cyberpower, the prices were pretty good.

Why buy it when you can build it? Simple, if the cost to purchase and build is higher than simply buying a new machine, then why rack your head against a wall building it and just purchase a full unit. I have purchased from CyberPower in the past and was happy. Bought a very (at the time) top of the line machine, and had no problems.

When I bought my Corei7 machine, I ended up building it because at the time it was cheaper.

The old saying goes, "your mileage may vary" I bought from Cyberpower a few years back, got a free upgrade on memory since they were out of what I wanted, system worked great no issues. Next one was bought from ibuypower, got free shipping and a discount since they were off on the time they told me it would be shipping, system worked great, no issues whatsoever. New rig in my sig came from ibuypower again, got it for slightly cheaper than building it myself (would have had Ted build it if I knew I had that option though) and got a special with free shipping. Works great, no issues.

Thanks to all who responded and like Michael stated "your milage may vary". I have read so much bad press from ibuypower and cyberpower that I think I will pass on them. I was actually suprised at the responses here from the people who had a decent experience with them.

I even bought a caopy of FSX w. Acceleration to see what's its all about now that I have a machine that maybe can run it (did I say that?) :monkies:

Magicmicro has been great on more than 12 machines we have bought. My present one has been clicking everyday for over a year with great results, no problems at all and am in the tropics....

I've built my own for the last 20+ years. A new one every four-five years. Seems it always worked out that I had a killer machine for the current version of FS just as the new one came out. But that's not going to happen anymore. :icon_lol:

PM sent Rod...As you are so close to Ted and hes the master, I would suggest having him build yours...

You are basically in the 1,400 to maybe 1,800 depending on what core chip you get and how much stuff you want..

Now thats just very rough....

BUT...If you really wanted you can spend upwards of 5 grand...But it won't help FSX....LOL
