View Full Version : Willy's Modern GA flight in the Cessna Death Machine

Willy
October 20th, 2009, 16:48
I'm setting up for my first leg flying from Mildenhall (EGUN) to Hof-Plauen, Germany (EDQM) in the FSD Cessna 337H Skymaster, N4AQ (aka: Cessna Death Machine or "CDM"). I'll be on the MAPE server and take off is shortly.

See Yall in Germany for Oktoberfest!

Willy
October 20th, 2009, 19:28
Landed in a thick fog at Hof (EDQM) after a flight that the winds were a bit frustrating. I kept a 25-30+kt wind from my 2 for most of the flight. Towards the end it shifted to my 4 at 8kts, then back on my 2 for the rest of the flight.

After the fight between me and Otto over how high we should fly (me and the sharp stick won), the CDM flew almost perfectly. I did find a stowaway in the back seat. At least he's pretty quiet. I think my flying had him speechless. Just hope he stays that way for the rest of the flight to Oz.

Flight Time: 2:02:41

Distance: 442.5nm

Now to plot the next leg, provided I don't get in too much Oktoberfest......

Okay, I'm rested up and heading out to Budapest (LHBP).

Willy
October 20th, 2009, 22:43
It was a pretty good flight to Budapest, but I'm starting to sense a pattern about weather conditions when it's time to land. The airport was fogged in again.

First time I've ever had a Cessna leave a contrail.

Flight Time: 1:29:23
Total Time: 3:33:04

Distance: 336.9nm
Total Dist: 779.4nm

Loading up for the flight from Budapest to Bucharest. Takeoff is soon and will be on the MAPE server.

Willy
October 21st, 2009, 18:55
Made it to Bucharest with my load of garlic and silver bullets. Although I did come out of my descent a bit short of the airport.

Great flight with pretty weather and good tailwinds.

Flight Time: 1:25:14
Total Time: 4:58:18

Distance: 336.4nm
Total Dist: 1115.8nm

Heading out from Bucharest to LTAS in Turkey..

Willy
October 22nd, 2009, 13:00
Well, I escaped out of Romania over Bulgaria, then crossed the Black Sea to Turkey. As usual, it was foggy on approach to the airport and this one is set down in a valley surrounded by hills. Made for an interesting moment when I saw trees going by the side window....

Flight Time: 1:25:53
Total Time: 6:24:11

Distance: 318.4nm
Total Dist: 1434.2nm

Willy
October 22nd, 2009, 13:13
Going to cross Turkey!.. seems like there should be a Thanksgiving joke in there somewheres......

Canx the flight.. forgot that I've got my evening chores to do :gameoff: I'll get back to this one in a couple of hours......

Willy
October 22nd, 2009, 16:32
Chores are done and the horses are fed. Time to fly! Off to cross Turkey!!

Willy
October 22nd, 2009, 18:42
Landed at LTCH in the middle of a thunderstorm. Kind of bouncy with real low vis (and fps). I'm not hanging around here.......

Flight Time: 01:49:43
Total Time: 08:13:54

Distance: 410.1nm
Total Dist: 1820.3nm

Bagging it for Bagdad......

Willy
October 22nd, 2009, 20:45
Arrived at the Bagdad Checkpoint just fine. Good flight that caught me still in the with it getting dark...

Now for the protest. For some silly reason the Duenna decided to invalidate my flight. The only possible problem noted was when I came offline, the sim froze for a few seconds. But it does that with me all too regular. I do know that I did nothing wrong so I'm protesting the results of this Duenna.

Flight Time: 01:36:34
Total Time: 09:50:28

Distance: 350.2nm
Total Dist: 2170.5nm

MM

The Duenna Error does not invalidate this flight. The Duenna had a second (03:38:52z) when it thought that you might have changed aircraft. (This seems to have been resolved to show at 03:38:53z that you were indeed flying the Cessna 337.) Otherwise, everything else looks absolutely normal. You were flying at a constant speed and altitude and did not move your location during that second of Duenna's indecision. As far as we can tell, this is a glitch--perhaps caused by your going offline and experiencing a momentary pause. We don't know for sure.

In any case, the flight is entirely valid.

Thanks.. never had one like that before.

I'm going to spend the night in the pilot's lounge at Bagdad and start working my way around Iran tomorrow.

October 22nd, 2009, 23:26
Hey Willy I landed a bit later than you but still in Baghdad overnight. What time will you depart in the morning?

Willy
October 23rd, 2009, 00:40
It depends on what all I've got going on tomorrow. But I suspect probably not before about 7pm.

falcon409
October 23rd, 2009, 03:54
ah, ok Willy, I'll be taking off early this morning. :ernae:

Willy
October 23rd, 2009, 17:33
Setting up to head out for Kuwait on my trip around the Persian Gulf....

Willy
October 23rd, 2009, 19:29
Landed safe in Kuwait (OKBK) just after dawn.. Posting the details and taking back off again for Bahrain (OBBI).

Willy
October 23rd, 2009, 21:13
Made it to Bahrain with a nice cruise down the coast of the Persian Gulf. Think I'll quit here for the night before I head out again....

Willy
October 24th, 2009, 16:18
Prepping for take off from Bahrain heading east.. Maybe Karachi, maybe further. Gonna see how far this old comp will go.

Willy
October 24th, 2009, 19:49
Made it just into Pakistan and decided to not push my luck any farther. There aint nothing here, not even a goat herd. Going to be pushing further east here in a bit....

Willy
October 24th, 2009, 20:30
Think I'm going to head on to OPSN on the other side of Pakistan...

Willy
October 24th, 2009, 21:57
Landed safe at the elevated airport at Sehwan Shariff (OPSN). Going to overnight here and head into India tomorrow.

Willy
November 7th, 2009, 16:27
Time to move the Skymaster out of Pakistan. The parking fees are getting ridiculous. Think I'll fly her to Allahabad with a possible divert to Agra if necessary.

Willy
November 7th, 2009, 16:46
Took off at 0420 local.. climbing out towards VIAL

0630 about halfway between Jodhpur and Allahabad. Just wish the winds would quit shifting around.

Willy
November 7th, 2009, 20:06
Landed safely at Allahabad for the 2nd checkpoint after a 750+nm flight across the land of the permanent fog.

Got a valid duenna jpg without a map but for some silly reason, it didn't generate a flight log .txt file. I've included the system log file instead.

Willy
November 15th, 2009, 12:44
I've sent word to the ground crew in Allahabad to have the CDM ready. I'm about to run out of airports in the Twin Beech. I also told them to give PRB's cinderblocks that were under the back seat to a local construction crew...

Willy
November 17th, 2009, 10:54
Catching a late night flight back up to Allahabad from Melbourne to pick up the Cessna. Good thing I'm not flying as I need to sleep off all that "nitro" at the Windsor.

Willy
November 17th, 2009, 17:30
Let's get this thing back in the air. Time to head for the coast....

Willy
November 17th, 2009, 18:59
Re-entry has commenced..... into a t-storm

Willy
November 17th, 2009, 19:25
Landed at VEBS with a green duenna.

http://www.fsrtwrace.com/track/ShowFlight.php?detail=flight&value=nBpegk5B7ZoimdwZedmj6RRBiYE

Interesting that there's two control towers at VEBS for such a small airport.

Willy
November 18th, 2009, 11:12
I've got a plan... it at least has the distinction that no one else has tried it yet..... should be "interesting".

Moses03
November 18th, 2009, 11:22
I've got a plan...

Uh oh! Last time I heard that we ended up in some third world country with small arms fire whizzing about. :kilroy:

Willy

Uh oh! Last time I heard that we ended up in some third world country with small arms fire whizzing about. :kilroy:

Whats a little small arms fire and a few tossed grenades between friends? :engel016:

Willy
November 18th, 2009, 15:59
Okay, if I hang around here much longer I'll have to put an Indian tail number on the CDM. Off to Coco Island and maybe a bit further if the fuel situation looks promising.

Willy
November 18th, 2009, 16:37
0330 AM local: At cruise altitude over the Bay of Bengal. Phuket is looking doubtful, so I'll settle for Coco Island. Got a little bit of a tailwind. Beats a headwind.

Willy
November 18th, 2009, 17:14
Due to operator error, I'm going to have to restart the flight...

(note to self: when checking the duenna in flight, do NOT click on the red x in the upper right corner.... :banghead:)

Restarting flight as soon as I can get back in the air....

Willy
November 18th, 2009, 17:44
Leveled off at cruise alt. Not messing with the Duenna until I'm at a complete stop.

Willy
November 18th, 2009, 20:11
Down, safe and with a green duenna at Coco Island (VYCI). It's all part of the plan :d

Leaving Phuket for Singapore and the third checkpoint....

Willy
November 20th, 2009, 16:52
Leveled off at cruise altitude. There's some pretty heavy t-storms south of Phuket.

Willy
November 20th, 2009, 18:32
Pretty cool.. the closer I get to Singapore, the more Speedbird call signs I'm hearing.

Willy
November 20th, 2009, 19:04
Another good landing (and a checkpoint) in the bag for the plan.

And of course some pics......

Willy
November 21st, 2009, 17:11
Took off for Pontiak.... might find a car there

Edit: It's a really nice day for flying and was going to divert to WRBB a few hundred more miles down the line, but forgot that I'd not filled the tanks... so it's back to Pontiak for now...

Willy
November 21st, 2009, 18:42
As part of the backup plan, got a green duenna at Pontiak.

http://www.fsrtwrace.com/track/ShowFlight.php?detail=flight&value=0sYrWUNRuW6yppzY5mTZc1NgvU

As soon as I can get refueled, I'm back up heading for WRBB.

Willy
November 21st, 2009, 20:44
Came in a little hot and high which wasn't in the plan, but it worked out in the end and I'm safe at WRBB. Now to go out and see about some of that gold and diamonds..er.. I mean "commodities" that someone mentioned.....

Taking off shortly for Darwin

Willy
November 23rd, 2009, 16:25
Although it's a beautiful day for flying, I had to say "Darn the headwinds... Full speed ahead!"

Willy
November 23rd, 2009, 18:11
Landed in the middle of one of Darwin's typical t-storms which was allowed for in the plan...

I'll be heading out for Charleville in a few minutes. Thinking about maybe knocking this thing out tonight.

Willy
November 26th, 2009, 17:46
With a slight change in plan, made a safe landing at Charleville for the final checkpoint.

Down and safe at the finishline in Melbourne.
