One hour out, two to go. Nice and benign over the Dutch/ German border but those pesky quartering headwinds are still around. However, the Incridble Stewardess Mimi is making lunch...

Baton is free and unscathed at LHBP. Crud on descent but 10 miles below 5000

Note: Duenna graphic shows max alt. as 18012 Ft. Autopilot set at 17500, altimeter never showed above 17890 ft. Multiple ( 8 or 9) rapid pressure changes over the English Channel during climb & leveling causing momentary variations of over 500ft indicated. Duenna txt file shows nothing above 17990 ft

srgalahad
October 22nd, 2009, 15:21
Down and safe in the UAE

Snapshots:
500 miles of hostile airspace and the terrain wasn't much better.
Southern Iran is a rather desolate place.
So nice to see the Iranian coast disappear behind...

Rob's unattended arrival in Emirates past the wx recon/escort. There was nobody there; maybe they didn't get the press release...:d

srgalahad
October 24th, 2009, 21:22
After some administrative time and a bit of flight testing, it's back into the breach!

Departing OPNH to VIAL (Allalaallaalllaaa,, oh, you know..)

(at least on this route we're NOT going via Agra )

srgalahad
October 24th, 2009, 22:46
Banging along on the way to Allahabad ... Up to the normal 17,500 cruise and there's a headwind of 24 knots. It had been on the tail in the climb so I snick back down to 16000. Better... crosswind and/or tailwind but all the stations north of track were reporting 24kt westerlies so I decided to ride it out and it paid off (sneaking a bit north of trach seemed to find the 'sweet spot" ... giving up 5 kts of true airspeed gets me 228 kts of push. Fair Deal!

The usual 6.2 goo below so I know what to expect at destination

srgalahad
October 25th, 2009, 00:08
Safe and sound at VIAL
Amazingly, good visibility!

jkcook28

VTSR - WSSL

Here we come Sinapore...

Rob and John said I was off the Team if I didn't take another leg. :running:

:icon_lol:

We're a tough group. No more whining or I do no more wx recon. :d

Check spelling: Sinapore :a1310:

P.S. wx is VFR

P.S.S. Race committee, is it illegal to haul a teammate to altitude for release! :173go1:

Dangerousdave26
October 27th, 2009, 17:32
Down and Safe

Stuff to follow

srgalahad
October 29th, 2009, 10:14
I hate headwinds!

Current wx shows mostly 7-10kts on the nose @ cruise altitude. Think I'll have another coffee and watch for a bit.

srgalahad
October 29th, 2009, 14:06
The Dutch East Indies becon.....

WSSL to WRBB

Someone put on the curry pot

srgalahad
October 29th, 2009, 14:28
VIAGRA Ops from F-ASTR:
let crew at WAAA know I may extend flight to their location if winds favourable
Will advise nearer WRBB

Dangerousdave26
October 29th, 2009, 14:43
So what your saying is Team Viagra may make the flight longer. :kilroy:

srgalahad
October 29th, 2009, 15:07
but still less than 'four hours'....

In the case of deciding to go to WAAA it may be a case of "once up, stay up"

:running:

srgalahad
October 29th, 2009, 16:40
Enough gas, tolerable winds.. Destination changed to WAAA

Off I go across the water.

srgalahad
October 29th, 2009, 17:58
Safe and sound on the ground at WAAA aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

jkcook28
November 6th, 2009, 16:36
OK, we're partied out at Ujung Pandang, so moving on to Darwin; fuel permitting...

jkcook28

Spookster67
November 6th, 2009, 21:45
Wow, you guys are really flying along! I reckon you are just over 10 minutes faster than anyone else to Darwin. :applause:

You are making it very hard (for anyone else to beat you). Keep it up!! ;)

srgalahad
November 11th, 2009, 11:02
OK, enough of the wonderful hospitality of Darwin... Onward!

YPDN to PBMA (Mt. Isa) in spite of the forecast headwinds.

srgalahad
November 11th, 2009, 13:49
.... and down... YBMA
Dancing with the winds all the way.. left, right, up, down...

Could have been better :kilroy:

jkcook28
November 21st, 2009, 07:34

Winds look good so we're off to Charleville (YBCV)

jkcook28
November 21st, 2009, 09:27
Down at YBCV.

srgalahad
November 21st, 2009, 11:18
Time for the "big one"

YBCV to YMEN
Precision estimate 2:22:00 (I'd love to say 2:22:22 but that's being a bit 'retentive')

Tough estimate with forecast 50+knot tailwinds along the way

Online, FS9 RWWx, fingers crossed.

srgalahad
November 21st, 2009, 13:42
IT'S ALL OVER!!
Down at YMEN

As for the estimate.. well.. 62 kts of quartering tailwind blew it.. but at least I didn't fly around in the 1-3 mile vis and find a tall building...

jkcook28
November 21st, 2009, 13:52

he went to do "other stuff" and like a dedicated teammate, returned just after I touched down. :icon_lol:

Congrats to the gents in blue!!!!

You guys are such a pill!!!! A stand up job for sure!!! When the moment was just right, amongst stiff competition, you rose up, came through and laid that ol' girl (the plane) down just right... Your glory will last well past 4 hours, for sure.

Have a cold beer (and a smoke) on the house :icon29:
