Yep.. like getting a new hanger first before you buy the new plane, lol.

Man... Goodness... I didnt know they would leap this far on the new model.

Wireless keyboard and new generation mighty mouse are standard.

2TB HD and 16Gig RAM capacities on the new ones. The case must be alot thicker now.

I am thinking this is finally a killer gaming computer.

$1699.00 basic model.

I will be pricing the 1TB baby and I may go for some extra sticks of Ram. They have this with an ATI 4870 GC. Still at a low price.

Their Euro prices are always higher.

If I maxed out a Dell, I could raise it from $399.00 to $10,000.00 in quick order with special cooling, Photoshop CS4 StudioPro, top GC's in dual SLI slots, Max, Office 2007, Win7 OS64, etc, etc, etc.

Cool to see that Apple is improving product lines so swiftly. That mouse is going to be wild. Its basically bringing the finger pad from laptops onto the surface of the mouse.

I wonder if the new iMac is more friendly in accessing the inerts?

....is that the 1TB, 3.33 gig, ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB, would be $2400+...

My ONLY concerns/questions (from an FSX standpoint) are these:

1. Better to get the 2.8 Quad i7 core, or 3.33 Intel 2 Core Duo

and...

2. Will the ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB cut the mustard (I'm partial to nVidia cards)

Here's the deal...I want 25-30 fps flying in cities and at airports with all sliders but AI traffic self-shadowing slid to pretty much to the right....

Thoughts?

Hey Kent,

I saw that too and was curious why they would offer those pairs...

Also, I heard that nVidia is running FSX best, so is ATI doing something right?

Supposedly Apple had made a huge deal with nVidia and were making multiple main chips and GC chips built in to the motherboards. Now they are running with ATI again. Whats up with that? (My iMac has the ATI card in it).

EDIT: They have a GC 'chip' in the board, as well as a GC card, is what I was saying.

Quotes from Yahoo;

The two new iMacs also deliver upgraded graphics chipsets, with the choice of integrated Nvidia GeForce 9400M or dedicated ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics in the 21.5-inch model, or discrete ATI Radeon HD 4670 or 8850 graphics in the 27-inch iMac.

As usual, the new iMacs don't come cheap, but even the priciest 27-inch model starts south of $2,000, with the 3.06GHz, 4GB 21.5-inch iMac (with a 500GB hard drive) beginning at $1,199, while the cheaper of two 27-inch configurations (with a 3.06GHz processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 1TB hard drive) starts at $1,699. Not included in the mix: Blu-ray support.

If you want a machine to do high-end gaming, then MACs are not for you (even though the high-end ones are very well capable).

Hardcore gamers are not the target audience Apple is going for anyways. This iMAC is clearly aimed the the average person with a little bit more to spend. And the base price of only 1600USD is very low and probably good enough for the average user. 1600 is great just for the 27" monitor! I remember paying 3,500USD for the 30" when it first came out....and that's just the screen only.

I'm gonna have to go check this out at a local store one of these days. I just love the way MACs look. Tho i'm not a huge fan of the reflective black they are using right now (it looks plastic-ky and cheap). I much prefer the 100% aluminimum look they had 1 year ago...

Me too.

Looks very 'aerospace', very leading edge.
