Ah, is this the same one as before, but with a bunch of repaints? I bought a FSX supercub like that from somewhere for half the price, but it only came with one paint job. And there prices? there the highest Ive seen. I hope thats its been improved some but the screen shots look the same as my old one does.

"Following his earlier Super Cub (Top Cub from Cub Crafters) for FS2004, with adapted version for FSX, Simon Smeiman has now rebuilt this wonderful aircraft as a native FSX model, with many more versions and paint schemes included."

You can read into that anything you like. Is it the same model just tweaked to be FSX compatible or is it truly FSX native as it says. It would appear from that snippet that it might actually be the one you purchased. This guy does nice work (I bought his Bobcat) and I'm sure this one will be an excellent model as well.

Guess you can wait until a reputable reviewer has given it a good shake down and pronounced it worthy. . . .or not!

Okay here's some impressions. It has specs and bumps and exterior looks excellent. Some of the liveries aren't as sharp as the others (I don't know if they are transferred from older version or what), but that's hardly a complaint. Just flew the tundra and amphibian and they handle nice and firm, I even sideslipped it to Plum Island. VC is nice. Not as detailed as some VC's these days, but I like the rugged feel. And probably the most important thing (for me); awesome frames all around.

I should think that new tundra tires, having been just mounted on the proper wheels, would look different than tundra tires that have seen years of use. The tires in the screenshots in this thread look new to me.

Perhaps a painter, with the skills, can age tires ? Just an idea, of course, as well as age the entire aircraft ?

Guess you can wait until a reputable reviewer has given it a good shake down and pronounced it worthy. . . .or not!

<chuckle>

From one reputable reviewer to 'community members': I have stopped making reputable reviews some time agao (did them on AVSIM, Computer Pilot, simFlight and other places).

Why!? Because they don't exist.

The entire 'sense' in this hobby if you like is about fantasy and impressions. Most of us never fly the real model... heck, most of us have never flown ANY plane in real life.... so anything written about FS models, their looks, their handling.... and even their builders, usually is 'feel', 'perception','impression'.

Anything but FACT. Hey, it's a sim, not reality. :wavey:

So I got tired of the endless discussions, critiques, flames, emails, forum threads and stopped writing them. One (writer OR developer) can never please them all. :blind:

Instead I started publishing them. And although I am a masochist and visit FS forums now and then .... I'm here today... I usually now refrain myself from jumping in the fray and I only HAVE to answer to actual customers of our products. Which I do. Vigilantly and with passion.

Much saner, let me tell ya ... LOL !

Now, as a reply to onne of the questions here.... no, this is not a port-over. No, this is not the same model 'reworked'. Simon made a NEW Gmax designed FSX model.

Like it or leave it, that's not up to me, but for now it is selling well, so a Big Thank You to all our loyal customers here and elsewhere ! :wavey:

A Reputable Publisher (or so I tend to believe :icon_lol: ).

Very well said heywooood! We see that same mindset over and over again in here and on other forums. The fact is Simon did an excellent job with the Super Cub, the tundra tires are spot on and whether or not they look too new or nothing like the real deal to some is of no real concern. Buy it if ya like it and if ya don't. . . . .don't.

I have to agree. Simon's work is coming on in leaps and bounds (although I'll be honest, my personal preference is that I prefer Pekka's worn tyres to Simon's factory fresh ones... That's just me. :engel016:)

If I could afford it, I'd have bought this already. It has definitely been added to the list, though.

I like both new and older aged tires. So, I hope a paint can be downloaded----Pekka ???? Is your paint finished?:icon29:
I recall, correct me if wrong, that years ago a J-3 was made by ---Golden Age?----that had a dirty paint included. That paint had dusty corners in all glass sections, streaks of grime, rust?, etc. And dirty tires, perhaps? Anyway, I look forward to paints showing a bit of wear and tear. :running:

As to the appearance of real tundra tires, yes, I've seen a few, maybe even a thousand over the years, and some looked new probably because they were, some looked old but washed, and some looked dirty or muddy. All I touched were soft and smooth as a baby's bottom, so to speak, if you know what I mean.

And I bought this super cub and like it. I've used Simon's banner freeware from previous years and another freeware release by a fellow whose name starts with "N" but I can't recall it right now, sorry. They worked in FSX but this FSX native Accel SP2 payware is very, very, very, much better. I've only a few flights but I like the smooth flight handling and the landings with both floats and tundra tires are great. A kind of soft bouncing with tundra tires on gravel strips? Or is it just me, LOL? :ernae:

I've got find some proper beaches, yes, of course, well, I really must fly.........................later. :medals:

I'm doing some paints after I get my hands on the paintkit. I did one quick paint just by painting over one ready paint template, but it's not an ideal way of doing paints because you lose all the panel lines and such. But you can be sure that my paints will be weathered:icon_lol:. And I'll see if I can include my scruffy tires with them.

By the way this thing side slips beautifully:ernae:

Yup, could well be. The software checks your data in the sales database of Flight1 and obviously it needs to match.

Just a quick heads-up here: the Flight1 Coupon Software, needed to provide the promised 50% to Fligth1 customers of our earlier Cub, is currently not working for us.

I'm awaiting support from Steve Halpern to get things fixed. Until then simMarket customers get their discount already, Flight1 customers will have to wait a little bit longer until the problems get fixed.

I don't know, it doesn't happen anywhere but on your PC it seems. Pronably a sticky key or something.

But for true support, please visit our dedicated support forums. There you'll find the developer of the plane, who may or may not have other ideas about your problem.

There is quite a lot to love about this package. The sheer number of different configurations that you get for about $24 is amazing. The aircraft handle like I would imagine that they should. The cockpits are detailed, but...

the cockpit textures really do leave something to be desired, and the sounds are not too impressive. I find that I mostly forget about these two little things once I get airborne, but they do not help the immersion.

Overall, I am glad that I purchased the super cub collection. I hope to see a bit more development in the future.

Cubs in real action show why a cub is a cub.
http://www.crazyaviation.com/englishmovies.htm About half-way down the long page are the 3 Alaskan videos showing river gravel or sand bar landings. Click on photo and download.

These small videos may help explain some things to those new to Supercubs.

This video is off topic. It shows a Goose crashing on a sandy beach breaking a wing and bending a prop. It is farther down the page, perhaps 75% down the page.

Did a bit of experimenting with gauge faces, and managed to add nice glass reflection effect. Its fake reflection (static) but looks pretty okay to me:kilroy:.

Yeah well we'll see about that:mixedsmi:. I actually tried to add the reflection to actual glass in front of the gauges, but it became too faint to be noticed. And currently this only looks good with simple panel config. The cluttered one would need much more work....

Thanks Pete:wavey:! Since there seems to be an interest towards my gauge reflection mod I'll slip it into my next repaint. But it will only work with the simple panels.

Did also some experimenting with back lit gauges, the problem is that I don't know if it looks realistic combined with my reflections...:kilroy:

N2518A headed for a landing in the area to the left in the Knik River Valley with the Knik Glacier at the far end of the valley. Default FSX DX9 northeast of Anchorage, near Palmer.

Thanks bp, it is a nice mod. :applause::ernae::medals::guinness:

I've labelled all of the cfg files at the ui_variation adding the panel type so that I can view the aircraft selection window and know what each supercub has for its panel.

So would you good people recommend this little plane? I already have the A2A Cub (which I love) but i wouldn't mind a little more speed and nav ability. I do tend to lean towards this sort of thing as I like low & slow (L-39 a special exception!) :icon_lol:

...........more speed and nav ability. I do tend to lean towards this sort of thing as I like low & slow ...............

I post as a buyer. I'm a Supercub "nutter", probably no secret to anyone, so, of course I have it.

You should be aware another Supercub is due for release in the not too distant future so if you want only one payware you may wish to wait.

In addition I think the FSAddon product (the one posted here in this thread) will have an update soon. http://forums.fsaddon.eu/viewforum.php?f=35 (http://forums.fsaddon.eu/viewforum.php?f=35) may help you. The FSAddon product page http://fsaddon.eu/wpfsaddon/fsaddon-products/ may help. At the moment. I can't recall if a manual can be downloaded for inspection, but if so, then do so as you can get good information.

As for me, nutter me, I'll get the next Supercub, too, and support more development in both projects.

As for fun and simulation in FSX Accel, I'm a treetop cruiser and do land on places that are not airports such as a river island, hilltop, beach, snowfield, road, pasture. With flaps, engine power, and tundra tires landing isn't too hard. Then there are wheel-skiis and floats as well. Performance does vary if you fly at max gross, of course.

I don't know the avionics of the A2A Cub. In my opinion, this Supercub is limited in IFR compared to the default Cessna 172, just for an example, but the manual shows the panels which may be basically thought of as two types. One is "simple" which is clearly VFR while the other (3 variations) has some limited IFR ability.

BTW, I land, save the flight and return to that field or whatever later. I've nothing against airports. I think Supercubs make their own, so to speak.

Does anyone have knowledge of the upgrade and if the manual is available?

On the ocean beaches at the south of Tasmania, Australia, using the free demo scenery of Orbx. And 2 using the FSAddon Tongass product. Both are VFR places for bush flying but I'll be trying some IFR flights later.

I have added a GPS popup window using an FSX default GPS. The panel cfg file adds the window the easy way by copying the default J-3 window data entry for the GPS. The window number may need changing. That is the basic idea.

But if I try to fly IFR in the worst weather, such as icing, heavy fog, and at night, then common sense says I should not be in the air at all. It depends on how realistic I want to be in a traditionally VFR aircraft.

But for those who prefer a GPS there is a way to get one.

Cold winter air for one screenshot, Tongass flightseeing, the essence of VFR.
