Well dig what I got to fly today! This is not your run-of-the-mill C182. It's the CAP's newest S & R airplane and certainly isn't VFR dominique.

Even seen a 182 with this badge?

Danville Regional is hosting an IMAA regional R/C Fly-In this weekend. It was pretty much a rain out until around 3:00 this afternoon, but about 2 dozen folks showed up and flew some nice demos. I went up with my brother and a local radio reporter to take some shots. If you look on the center, you will see one of the R/C planes at the top of a stall. The Fly-in is held on one of Danville Regional's abandoned strips.

Took some more scenics down low. Looking west toward downtown, one can see the old Long Mill Dye House with its two tall stacks, which has been in every FS simulator since FS98. FSXI will have to eliminate this, the Dye House and the stacks will be brought down by implosion come this Thursday (Oct. 30) at 10:00 AM.

Looking east one can see the smoke towers from the energy plant at Hyco Lake, NC.

The Garmin 1000 in action, landing on Rwy. 20.

Anyone wishing to take a college course in learning all the things a G1000 will do for you, email me with your snail mail and I can burn a DVD for you that will install on your computer (XP SP2 and Vista SP1 only)that will show the Garmin screen full screen ( you can even fly using it, but there are no visuals). There are three PDF manuals on the DVD, advise you read them thoroughly before attemting to use the sim unit. Preferably one should have two monitors so that both G1000 windows will open in full screen.

Quite a day, tired, going back tomorrow to help tutor folks and young kids on how $500.000 of their tax money helps to search and locate downed aircraft. Special thanks to Capt. Gene Jackson and Capt. Tom Dalton (my brother) of the Danville CAP for allowing me the privilege of playing with all the equipment and going up with them to see exactly how it works.
If you're in the Danville, VA vicinity, come by tomorrow (will be a wonderful day). Gates open at 10:00 AM, but full R/C flying demonstrations will not commense until 1:00 PM. Use the lower gate on US Hwy 58 East below the Airport Drive entrance to the Danville Regional Airport terminal.
Would love to see any of you.
