Hey everyone!

I can remember seeing some development pictures of the Alphasim's Eurofighter for FSX. Does anyone know if this is still being developed? That is like the one fighter aircraft I want the most for FSX :O.

There is one that has been done for FSX, but I'm not really sure whether it is native FSX, but AFS Design has one for FSX.

Here is where you can find them: http://www.afs-design.de/e_EF.htm

The quality of their models is not like that of Alphasim though, just a warning!

I heard a whisper the other week that the Typhoon from Alphasim is going to be updated to native FSx along the lines of recent updated aircraft from their catalogue.

Agreed! The AlphaSim model is the only one in my hangar. I've looked at various releases, over the last few years, and IMHO there's no comparison, the AFS Design model being particularly poor. I had a version come free with a PC Pilot subscription and it was deleted the same day as I installed it. :gameoff:

I've not tried porting the AlphaSim into FSX because I still fly in FS2002 and FS2004 as well as FSX. However an FSX version of the AlphaSim Typhoon is certainly something to look forward to.

Wonderful news! :D

And I know the AFS Typhoon. They actually recently updated it. Tried the demo and it's not that bad, but it's still not as good as Alphasim's level of quality. And the formation flying models AFS does (3 planes, 1 model) is really really bad.

To clarify, it is my understanding that the FSx version will be the FS9 version but compiled for FSx, so thats a native FSx mdl, bump mapping and FSx textures, I have not heard of any reworks or ammendments over and above that. I dont want to imply its an all new project and mislead any one, I simply heard (reliably...as reliable as you can get in this enviroment) that the Typhoon will be FSx native in the near future.

I also hear that there are other existing catalogue models being updated to FSx format so watch their space in the future.

Yeah, that was what I meant. I saw some time ago some pictures on a german forum screenshots and a sort of anouncement for the FSX version of the Eurofighter.

I found it! Look here: http://flusi.movie2digital.at/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=9607

She ports quite well - for vanilla/SP1 users, anyway.

+1. Now, if only they'd update their B-2 for FSX SP2 too (lot of two's in that scentence :D), they would have one very satisfied customer. :)

anyone else notice that this image:

makes it look somwhat cartoon-ified? there doesn't seem to be any depth to it, as though something is missing...

I have to agree about the cartoony look. That and the fact that no Typhoon I've ever seen has had really dirty panel lines like that. If one is ever released for FSX then I should hope it would have improved somewhat in the final product...

Missing Specular shine as far as I can see.

Those panel lines aren't that dirty! Especially when compared in real life to a flilthy Tornado rear end lol :ernae:

That's due to the very effective reverse thrust buckets on the Tornado which the Typhoon doesn't sport.

Anyway, those panels don't seem to match real life anyway

On the port side we see some dirt, presumably from the APU

If you're able to get an answer from Alphasim, everything is being worked on, so hold your horses. Also, they abandoned plans of all updates a long time ago.

The truth? Alphasim has like (rough estimate here) 100,000 projects that are 75% complete. Whichever one you're asking about is not the top priority. :icon_lol:

I wish Alphasim would go back to their old business model of buying premade models and 'wanging' them out the door one a month. It hurt them in the short-term monetarily, but the investment will last as they will all sell for many years. They need to advertise more and sell in the popular shops.

How many people know about the sick Apache they made with startup and shutdown sounds? It still looks as good as anything else out there. Only a handful of people? exactly.

I would say go a little slow or they are stranded in the complex work that is C-17?

Objectively Vcockpit their typhoon is a perfect base ... I think they potentially a fair number of buyers ...

We do not work on just one project at a time - that would be business suicide!!

May I ask how do you evaluate which model to pursue? :jump:

I can only speak for myself (AlphaSim is a group of modellers and painters, fm guys etc)in that I model only aircraft that interest me. I mean most models take months if not years to finish so there has to be a certain level of interest to keep me motivated that long.

If aircraft that I'm interested in prove popular then thats good but for me personally it's all about whether I like the subject aircraft or not!!

If you look on the Alphasim site, the Typhoon isn’t listed in their shop area. Does this and the present upheaval at Alphasim mean it will never be updated for FSX. That would be a real shame.

As I'm still enjoying the Alphasim Eurofighter in FS9 I'm not exactly biting at the bit expecting an updated version for FSX. To be honest I gave up hope of seeing one a long time ago.

My dream is that one day someone, preferably Aerosoft, will do a Eurofighter, in the same vein as their F-16. I simply cannot understand why no one has come up with a decent model for FSX yet.

"Present upheaval" is better characterized as "re-affirmation" and "expansion".

http://www.alphasim.co.uk/

As far as the Typhoon goes (and DON'T quote me on this), she was originally built by a modeller who left AS a very long time ago. Hence, we are not likely to see an update.

If I hear anything to the contrary, I'll be happy to pass it along.

Well if AS won't be updating theirs, then hopefully another developer can give it a crack. Someone like IRIS would be an ideal candidate.

I wouldn't count Iris out, they mentioned on facebook that they are releasing a single and 2 seat fighter as there next project, people were guessing Rafales, F-18's and I finially quessed the Typhoon to which there was no reply, so my moneys on that for Iris's next jet!

Peter, David said 2 people have it right so far which narrows it down to 2 aircraft that fit that description... :wavey:

I think the fever pitch in UK circles regarding the next Lightning or Typhoon could mean potential suicide for the next company that makes either.

Models are models and rivet counters can rivet count but FDE's are FDE's and both aircraft are really unique, the latter just goes batpoop in the air at the hands of a twenty something year old and the former has some serious quirks that would snap heads with a blink of an eye so who ever is brave enough to step upto the plate has some serious guts.

Then again knowing this hobby no matter what happens you will never satisfy everyone so... :)

P.S. I do not mean this as a negative post, a little tongue in cheek but far from negative.
