....otherwise known as the the Saab 29 Tunnan ("Barrel").

Does anyone know if there is a version of the -F with wing tanks AND Sidewinders?

Kent

Also....is there a paintkit for that baby? It is screaming for a nice natural metal sceme....with perhaps a dayglo fuselage band!

....that is JUST cool about a 1st generation jet fighter that is simple, but great fun to fly.

Kent

P.S. Seems like the kind of airplane the Swiss AF would have bought....(I think only Sweden and Austria did in reality)

How about an all white with UN on the sides and wings as used in the Congo?

....this airplane just seems to BEG for fictitious schemes (the Israelis and Finns ALMOST bought some, apparently...)

Flew this little piggie for the first time since FS9 ... she's sweet!

Does anyone know if any repaints were ever done for it? I thought I recall Jens Ole did a couple - could be mistaken, though.

Thanks!

Just like any other plane from Piglet, this airplane is definitely beggin for PHOTOREALISTIC repaints.
The Skyraider with the photoreal "412" repaint is one of the greatest-looking planes in my hangar.
I wish I had repainter skills :/

Interesting, I didn't know about IDF's interest in the aircraft, though the Finns' interest is logical. Learned something new today ... :)

I was just thinking of the factual, albeit less know schemes ...

The recce version S29C second from the top looks just delightful ...

Anyway, just food for thought ... this little gem is wonderful Tim - thanks so much for reincarnating her for FSX!!!

The flying barrel is a good looking lady for shure, and the pilots who flew her states that nothing contemporary could meshure up to it. It is said that it would outperform the mig-15 and F-86 in all areas accept high altitude dogfight.

I've got two of em parked fifteen minutes from where i live so if anyone need pictures for a photoreal repaint, shoot me a pm.

By the way, there is a club for pilots that has 1000hours or more in the barrel: http://medlem.spray.se/superswede/F22/tusen_timmar_tunnan.htm I'ts in swedish thou...

Glad you like my lady, chubby chaser!:wavey:
I just may rebuild the Tunnan one day. Always just loved that plane. There's just something about the lines, and history of the J-29. Only other plane that I ever totally remade more than once was the J-21, A-1 and OV-10 series. Wait, I did make a J7W1 Shinden for CFS2, along with the first J-21.

I downloaded this one, installed it and it doesn't show up. Does it really need FSX-acceleration to show up?

I believe it does Cees!

I'll have to wait for acceleration to fall on the doormat then.

Are the folder names correct and do the .cfg files point to the correct locations?

The problem seems to have been there since day one.

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?86816-Tim-Conrad-Saab-J-29-%28the-FSX-upgrade%29

- Edit:
I've tried to convert the exterior model with ModelConverterX and while I manage to get a native model, there's too many bugs or features that MCX simply can't access to do a viable conversion.
So you're basically stuck with the FS9 model.

Bugs in particular: No rotating wheels, rudder doesn't work, ailerons don't work.

- Edit²:

Managed to fix the wheels and tinkering with the rudder.

Angrily tinkering, to be precise, because the whole model pack is a quality control oversight bar none. Why, Piglet, why?

- Edit³:
Got the rudder and ailerons working with a bit of coding magic.

I checked my archive folder and found the J-29 (that's the one we're talking about, right ?)
The model is FSX native and doesn't need any convertion.
I'm going to install it in P3D to see if there are any problems.

EDIT: works fine.
The sounds are aliased to the default 737-800 which doesn't exist in P3D, so I just had to edit the sound.cfg file to alias it to another airplaine.

Where did you download it?
I've only found the native models in the library here and they don't work out of the box.

J-29B.mdl and J-29F.mdl are dated August 2007, if that helps.

Daube

I think I had downloaded it here as well.
The filename is J-29_FSX.zip.
The mdl files are from April 2008.

BOTH .mdl files?!

Can you attach them here, if it ain't too much work (just the .mdls).

Daube

I can simply upload the archive I have on my hardrive, that will be easier:
http://sapdaube.free.fr/J-29_FSX.zip
(just below 15 MB)

Thanks! It's weird. I've searched everywhere for information about two different package versions, but all I can find is the broken version here in the library.

I'm fixing your package up with the smoke and AB effects from the FS9 release and then it'll be off to the library here.

Totally off-topic:
I'm surprised you haven't used the last panel as an avatar yet: http://www.sinfest.net/view.php?date=2014-08-29
I almost did it... but I'm using my avatar since too long to change it now :biggrin-new:

H/U:
The fixed version (Thanks again, Daube!) is now available in the library.

It sports a few enhancements...

- Edit:

Dang, left my experimental MCX model conversions in. Delete J-29BX.mdl and J-29FX.mdl. Or leave them in. They won't do any harm.

Does anyone know if a paint kit was released for the Tunnan? Also, does anyone know if the droptanks are removable on the visual model? If so, I sure haven't been able to figure it out.
Thanks,

Kent

P.S. Just reloaded this beauty, and forgot how fun to fly she is!

This pack apparently includes an unpainted texture:
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=3&linkid=5340

The main texture's alpha channel seems to control shine instead of transparency, so that's a "no" on the droptanks.
