Northern Queensland - Australia has an defence air show on this weekend in Townsville. Thunderbirds have a comfirmed appearance at the show now. Bloody long way from here so will miss this one, wish there was something going on down this way.

I sailed there on a old WW2 destroyer (USS DEHAVEN DD 722) back in 1964. We were
the 1st man of war to pull in there since end of WW2. People were
very nice and followed us (waiting on the pier) to Brisbane.

I had to check Google Earth to pin it down, quite a coup for a town of 150,000 in the exact middle of nowhere!
I've flown over it on my way to Cairns a few times though.

It's not much of a place really, Cairnsites will poo poo the place. It's a mostly army town with a big barracks there. The main airport is a joint use military/civilian international setup..
