This may have been done before, but I think it would be helpful to all of us if we had a central thread to reference specs/performance in order to get the most out of FSX. Get as specific as possible, especially with the FSX settings you use.

Allow me to start:
E8400 core2duo @ 3.0 ghz
4 gigs DDR2 800mhz RAM
BFG 8800GT 512MB Factory OC
Vista Home Basic (32 bit)
Playing at 1680x1050
7200 RPM SATA HDD

Default tab settings:
Filtering - Bilinear with AA enabled

Global texture resolution - High, none of the boxes under global options are checked. Target FPS set to 20.

Aircraft settings:
Medium High, with nothing changed.

Scenery:
Level of detail radius - Medium
Mesh Complexity - 70
Mesh Resolution - 76 m
Texture Resolution - 2 m
Water Effects - Low 2.x
Land Detail Textures - Unchecked
Scenery Complexity - Normal
Autogen - Normal
Ground shadows - Unchecked
Special Effects - High

Weather:
Medium High with no changes.

Traffic:
All sliders set to 10% with airport vehicle density at low.

Feel free to copy and paste this post to use as a template. Also, if anyone notices anything in anyones setup that could improve performance, speak up!

Hmmm Ok

Gigabyte M31 MObO

Intel E5200 @ 3.3

Saffire 3850

Skill Ram @ 1066

Pretty much all sliders 3/4 to full except water @ 2X

Traffic is 35 45 45

Not exactly the detail I was looking for, but thanks :P

The only problem with a thread like this is that despite the settings that you noted in your initial post. . . .they'll be of little help to anyone else unless they have the same (exact same) setup you do, which won't happen. There have been a ton of these same threads (well maybe not a ton, but a lot) and usually what happens is that rather than folks just posting their specs you get posts that say. . . ."well my system isn't even half of what yours is and my fps are double that, you must have something set wrong on your system", or something in the complete other direction, "my setup is better line for line and yet it won't even run FSX the "way I think it should" (that's always a clincher, lol).

So, it may be interesting to see what other folks run and see what they claim they're getting from their specific setup and if that's what your intent is, then I think it will probably be an interesting and successful thread.

I won't even list my specs. . . .on a 2yr old Acer dual core that's been basically gutted after several HDD crashes and a MB and CPU BBQ. . . .which, by the way cost less than $400 originally and runs FSX perfectly (for me).

OK here's mine (my system is very similar to the original post actually)..............

E8400 core2duo @ 3.0 Ghz (no OC)
4 gigs DDR2 800mhz RAM
Galaxy 8800GT 512MB (no OC)
XP Pro (32 bit)
Playing at 1680x1050
7200 RPM SATA HDD

Default tab settings:
Filtering - Trilinear with AA enabled and I use nHancer

Global texture resolution - Very High, Advanced Animations checked. Target FPS set to Unlimited but I use FPS Limiter which is set to 30 FPS.

Aircraft settings:
Medium High, everything else checked except 'Aircraft casts shadows on itself', I use VC all the time so the Panel Transparency is set to zero.

Scenery:
Level of detail radius - Large
Mesh Complexity - 76
Mesh Resolution - 5 m
Texture Resolution - 15 cm
Water Effects - Mid 2.x
Land Detail Textures - Checked
Scenery Complexity - Very Dense
Autogen - Very Dense
Ground shadows - Unchecked
Special Effects - High

Weather:
Global Settings - High
Cloud draw distance - 60 miles
Cloud Detail - Detailed Clouds
Cloud Coverage Density - High

All other settings unused but I always fly using REX2 real weather.

Traffic:
Airline - 30%
GA - 50%
Airport Vehicles - Minimum
Road Vehicles - 0%
Ships and Ferries - 20%
Leisure Boats - 22%

Realism:
All sliders full right (except when flying helicopters)
Ignore crashes and damage - checked

With the above settings I get 30 FPS with most aircraft with maybe a few less around large cities and busy airports but I don't fly in those places very often.

I'm not sure this will help unless you have a system like mine, but...

System specs in signature.

Graphics: 1900x1200x32
Filtering: Trilinear, AA disabled in FSX and set to 8xS in nHancer (I use Nick's settings)

Global texture res: Very high
Lens flair and light bloom: Off
Advanced animations: Check

Aircraft: Aircraft shadows and landing lights: Check

Scenery: LOD radius: Large
Mesh complexity: 100
Mesh res: 10m
Texture res: 7cm
Water: Low 2.x
Scenery complexity: Extremely dense
Autogen density: Very dense (depending on area I'm flying)
Ground scenery shadows: Off
Special FX detail: Medium

Weather: Cloud Draw: 70mi.
Thermal Vis: Natural
Detailed clouds, high density

Traffic: Airline: 60%, GA: 100%, Airport vehicles: Low
Road vehicles: 15%, ships: 85%, boats: 42%

Please note, that even with a similar system, these settings may not be right for the type of flying you do...

I'm with falcon, while I applaud the effort, I don't feel posting settings would be of much help to anyone. I see posts all the time where one person gets great performance and the other with the same hardware doesn't, just to many variables, hardware configurations and EXPECTATIONS!.

For me, other than autogen at dense, no bloom, frames locked at 35 and traffic (all versions) at under 50%, everything else is maxed (specs in my sig).

Which one? I have several systems.

The work/play box is a Core i7 975, 12 gb, nVidia 275GTX that I just put together after the previous board decided it didn't want to boot any more. Under Win7 RC1 64 bit I can max out almost everything with scenery LOD at 9.5, autogen 100% etc at 1900 x 1200. It's a dual boot setup and a little temperamental under XP 32 bit for some reason so I've scaled things back a little.

The dedicated flying system is a Q6600 with 2gb, 8800GT, projector with 7' screen, TRC472 panel. I forget the settings, but the projector is 1024 x 768 so the lower resolution allows a lot more goodies without killing the framerates.

For travel, I use a new HP HDX 18 laptop with 18.4" screen, T9900 processor, Vista 64bit, 4 gb, nVidia GT 130M. Native resolution is 1900 x 1080, but that's pushing it for FSX. I'm still tweaking the settings on this one.

I welcome all comments about this thread, even negative ones. Despite all the nay-saying I think if this thread were to grow large enough it could be of major help to people. Seven posts in, and there is already a system that is nearly identical to mine as far as the three main performance components go (CPU/RAM/GPU) - I referenced his specs and settings and was able to make a few changes that had a pretty major impact on my performance.

Post your specs when you get a chance. Maybe it will be helpful to someone, you never know. Three minutes at the very most is all it will take.

running with all traffic off, custom user defined weather, basically 1 layer of cirrus clouds and vis set to 30 miles from 0 to 999999ft and sticking to regional airports and scenery I can keep it playable
