We're currently gathering information and photos of any forward-operating bases that we can create for the Hawk deep in France. My intention is to recreate it with AI Hawks and also static aircraft, tents and so on. If anyone has anything that will help me, it would be most appreciated.

We intend to realse 6 additional liveries : 2 US, 2 UK and 2 FR

That really good news Dean. Like many I still fly the FDGv2 P-36 isn't a more recent model and although it still looks quite nice after all these years, it is showing its age. When my information is correct the French aircrafts used the 'normal' airfields with permanent buildings in most cases. As they were the defenders and the battle field was were it was expected, they could use the existing infra-structure.

The advancing Germans had no airfields in the region the had captured and therefore had to rely on improvised airstrip. However the started to use the Dutch, Belgium and French airfields as soon as the Battle for France was over.

I hope this sounds a bit logical. I think I should be able to provide you some pictures as I have several books about the l'Armee de l'Air. However in most cases the aircrafts are the topic and not the airfields.....

Cheers,
Huub

Wow no P-36s in action on Dec 7th in the Philippines. Always learning something.

If you do US liveries.. I have suggestions...

Hi Huub, where can I obtain the Hawk is it only for fs9 ? any information you can provide would be really appreciated.

The Hawk is the donationware P-36, which can purchased to support the Sim-Outhouse. You can find a buttom in the upper navigation bar on this page. There is a CFS2 and a FS9 version.

The price shouldn't stop you and the included repaints are quite nice. I did a few French textures based on John Terrell's paintkit. These repaints can be found in the library here.

Huub

Edit: I just checked but the links towards the P-36 at donationware.net are very dead...

I saw a P-36 at Planes of Fame Chino a few years back get flown by Steve Hinton before they shipped it off. Ill see if I have any pix of it for ya.

Strike out. Darn. I also had some video of it doing its run-up. Nice aircraft. I like it a lot better then the P-40, and so did pilots! I was reading one pilots book that trained in P-36, and stationed in P-40's and he loved the P-36 much better. He said it was much better aircraft then the P-40 in almost every possible way and was quite puzzled why the US chose the P-40.

The model is looking great!

As the link towards the donationware P-36 is dead, I have made some screenies.

The bare metal textures by LOBO are really very special! A olive drab/grey version is included as well. And the last screenie is one of the French repaints I did.

As you can see the external model is still quite nice, however the VC is definitely showing its age, so a new model in FSX will be more than welcome.

First of all, let me compliment you on those screenies!

But my question is the following: are you using any special prop textures there? If so, can you give us a pointer please?

Thanks in advance,

Crashaz, it a pity you can't post images with sound. The sound package by Lawdog is defenitely one of the best I have ever heard!
And as said for its age it is still a stunning looking model.

Purplebubble the textures for the propellor are not included in the standard texture folders, therefore I haven't got a clue which textures are used.

In the past I had textures for the P-36 depicting a machine used during the camouflage trail in Cleveland Ohio in 1939. I went through all my CDs and searched the net, but I have been able to find them anymore.
Can anybody direct me to these texture? I would be very grateful!

Cheers Bud, Pete!

Edit just read it, and I quite like the sounds of this and I quote of wiki ...
The (RAF) also displayed interest in the aircraft. Comparison of a borrowed French Hawk 75A-2 with a Spitfire Mk I revealed that the Hawk had several advantages over the early variant of the iconic British fighter. The Hawk was found to have lighter controls than the Spitfire at speeds over 300 mph (480 km/h), especially in diving attacks, and was easier to maneuver in a dogfight (thanks to the less sensitive elevator) and better all-around visibility. The Hawk was also easier to control on takeoff and landing. Not surprisingly, the Spitfire's superior acceleration and top speed ultimately gave it the advantage of being able to engage and leave combat at will.

Thats all I needed to hear I'm IN too, cheers MC!

Here is the best video I know of available on the internet, of the The Fighter Collection's example, which currently is the only airworthy Hawk 75 (there is a second under restoration to flying condition as well). It is great to see that this example will be included in the package!

http://www.flightlevel350.com/Aircraft_Curtiss_P-36_Hawk-Airline_Private_Aviation_Video-7116.html

According to the few pilots that have flown the restored example, I believe they are all quite impressed with how it handles. When you look at the lines of the Hawk 75/P-36, it is quite easy to see that it should fly very well.

Fantastic modeling!

Just as long as the paint kit comes out right behind it.

The P-36 saw action over Oahu on December 7th...against awesome odds...

A total of 39 Mohawks were at Wheeler Field ... here is the breakdown.

source: http://www.ww2pacific.com/aaf41.html

Total: 39
Destroyed: 4
Damaged: 19
Combat Ready: 16

The totals are really incredible... and the result of the night before when 1st Lt. Sanders (commander of the 46th Pursuit Sq.) had the planes dispersed.

Another 2 aircraft were at Haleiwa.....

Here is what they did on Dec 7th. (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_on_Pearl_Harbor citation #55)

In the twenty-five sorties flown, USAF Historical Study No.85 credits six pilots with ten planes destroyed: 1st Lt Lewis M. Sanders (P-36) and 2nd Lts Philip M Rasmussen (P-36), Gordon H. Sterling Jr. (P-36, killed in action (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/wiki/Killed_in_action)), Harry W. Brown (P-36), Kenneth M. Taylor (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/wiki/Kenneth_M._Taylor) (P-40, 2), and George S. Welch (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/wiki/George_Welch_(pilot)) (P-40, 4). Three of the P-36 kills were not verified by the Japanese and may have been shot down by naval anti-aircraft (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/wiki/Anti-aircraft_warfare) fire.

So I hope you realize the importance of the paint kit if there will not be a USAAF 46th Pursuit Squadron livery.

Some of us have very slow connections and FSX add-ons seem to be doubling in size every 3 months! Can you please make the paint kit a seperate DL from the install file, I guess 90% of your customers will fly her, not re-paint her.
