Interesting.
I have not heard of Earhart before I downloaded the FS-planes from Daviator about 5 years ago (http://www.daviator.com/fs_aircraft.htm)
In the meantime every now and then is another story to read.
One of the most interesting was that of a evtl.found plane on a small island (only by photo, somewhen in ww2 probably), where an expedition found rest of a shoe some decades later.
Note:This is all I could find in my head, but should come close to the story I have read.
There are some sites about this famous "aviatresse", this one is telling about the last flight:

And here is the Intro of that page:

I read about that shoe thing yesterday. Look at the TIGHAR link on the link I'd posted above.
Started to say something about not having heard of Earhart, but then I remembered that during that time Germany had their own famous aviatrix, Hanna Reich (sp?), that many here in the US that are familiar with aviation have never heard of as well.

Nearly, Willy.
The name was Hannah Reitsch, here is a nice site in english:

You have to be interested in aviation to stumble on her name somewhere.
All what happened in Germany in the 33-45 has a huge NAZI-taste, especially Aviation topics, so she is not very famous here, too.
It just does not look good, because nearly all her planes had the svastica on the tail ;-) - So you can`t make profit with her pics.
