Is it necessary for nHancer to be running in the background for it to be effective, or can I close it while running FSX? Thanks...

Activate your profile and close it.

No. Just set up the profile and then you never have to run nHancer again.

Yes you can do it this way unless you have as many profiles as I do I constantly tweak my profile depending on the apps
