Wow - that has to be the nearest to dear old FS9 Flightzone Portland products standards.

Only wish my PC could cope with it!

It contains a config tool with which you can disable some eye candy.
I haven't enabled everything and the performance is good (E8400 @3.6Ghz, 4GB Ram, GTX260).

Interesting config tool. here I was thinking the 7 cm/pixel was the cause of the FPS hit, guess it's the details. If you add up the FPS on the config tool you can lose, that is more than most get in normal situations, LOL.

I was REALLY looking forward to this one, but now not to sure. Luckily I am recharging my paypal account so I have time to hear other users experiences before taking the plunge, LOL.

I just can never run it with descent fps.

Just for interest sake. Who has a setup that can run it as smooth as the demo video? What system do you have?

I really want to get this one.

Here is the official press release guys :)

PRESS RELEASE
FTX: AU YSTW Tamworth Airport Released!
The world's FIRST 7cm/pixel airport!
Prepared to be stunned at the detail of the airport aprons, taxiways and surrounds with the first ever FSX airport to be released using incredible 7cm/pixel digital sourced aerial imagery, taken using the very latest direct to disk mounted cameras on aircraft. Never before has an airport environment seemed so real and immersive, with the smallest of details on the ground being clearly visible. Tamworth airport is a busy regional hub and also the home of the Basic Flight Training Skills (BFTS) school, which is the first stop for any "top gun" candidate wanting to fly with the Australian Defence Forces. It's also within easy reach of Orbx's YSCH Coffs Harbour Airport. The scenery includes both 7cm and 15cm ground imagery close to the airport, completely integrated into the Orbx FTX AU GOLD region. As well as BFTS and the airport, this scenery features over 200km of pristine 60cm/pixel photoreal imagery of the Tamworth township, farms, hills and surrounds and uses a custom 5 metre resolution terrain mesh. You'll be impressed by the tour-de-force which is YSTW! The product page can be found here http://www.flightsimstore.com/product_info.php?products_id=1046 (http://www.flightsimstore.com/product_info.php?products_id=1046) and for more information visit http://fullterrain.com (http://fullterrain.com/)

To be honest, I could care less about buying Australian scenery, but I purchase their payware anyway just to support their freeware releases. Their airport scenery is second to none, and it suits me prefectly for aerobatics or small aircraft flying where I don't leave the terminal area.

Hi Ben,
if you don't maximize the settings of YSTW and FSX and if you have a similar PC like i have, you should be able to run it smoothly in most situations. What are your computer specs?

I haven't set my scenery complexity slider to Extremely Dense, so my images are missing some details. Knowing the shortcomings of FSX, the design decision, to have this scenery complexity setting at the maximum, is the only thing i don't like.

Hi Nick, I started at 5:00am this morning...lol. You would think as big as that site is and they are also into retail sales they would have better bandwidth for there customers.Chet we just a small outfit here and our DL speed is twice as fast as they are. There is no way they are selling so much stuff it brings them to a crawl like this...Mike

They always have server problems with new bigger released. FSS-staff also has a rather big mouth when it comes to assuring that 'it will never happen again' and 'we've got lot's of bandwith'. But guess what, it slows to a crawl with every new release. :173go1: Better wait a couple of days till the tide falls again.

Hmmmm the downloads actually run from my CDN servers and should be lightning fast, there have been some DNS problems in the last week here in Aussie though. I apologise if your download is slow. With the ever growing demand there can always be a weak link in a servercase somewhere. Now even though I am not FSS staff I do know Adrian personally and I think it is an unfair statement to say he has a big mouth. We are always on the lookout for better, faster and more. Anyway, I am not here to start a flamewar, just giving your my opinion and I respect yours :)

EDIT: I just tested the download, coming in at an average speed of 922k/bps, so definitely not too bad

It has to be said mate, with these size files, it doesn't surprise me that there are slow downloads on the first few days following release. The same thing happened with Aerosoft when they released RoF.

Having said that, this is simply an amazing scenery package. Yes it slows down when everything is maxed out, but I wouldn't expect anything less. It's simply jaw droppingly good!

Intel Q9300 OC @ 3300kHz
4 GB Kingston RAM

Autogen - Normal

By the way Tamworth and Aerosoft Discus is on my shopping list. Just need to figure out CumulusX.

Yes I realised I'd got the plane in my files, but for some reason not installed.

You don't happen to have the file name to hand do you Jan, it would aid my SOH library search.

The screenshots are very impressive but there is always one little thing which prevents me from buying any ORBX airports:

The use of the default FSX runway.

Nick C's screenshot gallery provides a nice pic of the runway showing incorrect touchdown zone markings. In Australia the standard is two parallel small rectangles, two parallel large rectangles and two parallel small rectangles which as far as I know are used in every major airport. FSX afcads do not support these markings so if you want accurate markings you need to make them yourself.

It just seems such a shame that ORBX spend so much time and effort on making such a pretty airport and then ruin it with inaccurate runways :( . After all the runway is the most important bit of ground in the whole airport.

Peter,
don't uninstall FSX. Maybe only your UTX entries in the terrain.cfg are missing (run the UTX setup tool).
Or if FSX files have been replaced and your backup is messed up, i can send you the default FSX (+XPack) files. Or if you post at the FTX forum, i'm sure that you will get help there. All files, which FTX is replacing are in the ORBX\Scripts folder, so it's possible to rescue your FSX.

Anthony,
many thanks for your excellent freeware airports!

I definitely getting this. I've got all the other FTX payware, and it's changed my FSX experience in such a positive way. I read on their site that ORBX are planning to do Europe after the USA!!

Here's an idea: Microsoft should sub-contract all development for FS11!

Scenery: ORBX
Aircraft: RealAir, A2A, Carenado, Lotus, CaptainSim etc.

As long as I can beta test for them of course :icon_lol:

What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

Can you compare the framerate at Tamworth to other Orbx payware airports?

as long as I fly low and slow, I have no real problems.
with everything completely to the right, I still average about 20 fps

Javis
September 12th, 2009, 21:24
Can you compare the framerate at Tamworth to other Orbx payware airports?

No FPS issues at all at Orbx Aeropelican or Cessnock ( AU Gold installed.TFR unlimited. Core 2 Duo E6700, GF8800GTX, 4Gig DDR2) arriving at YSTW ( I never spoil the fun by just plopping down at Active Runway of a newly installed airport.. :)) however FPS dropped down below 10...

This without looking at YSTW Control Panel...

Excluding a few of the goodies got an average 20 FPS back up flying over Tamworth. Control Panel is the thing to go for if you have FPS issues. Works like a charm. Even without some of the details ( 3D grass, Township Objects, CT4 trainers ) Tamworth still remains one of the most gorgeous airports in FSX. :applause:

No wonder about the difference in FPS between Aeropelican/Cessnock and Tamworth, latter is a 'big' airport compared to the other two ( which are as gorgeous as Tamworth i might add )

Cheers,
Jan

Wow, thanks for the positive feedback on YSTW guys! It was a blast making it and we're also happy that it performs very well given the 7cm/pixel textures used.

The spec of my PC used in the video are in the 'More Info' tab on the YouTube page, but I'll list them here:

PC Specs: Intel i7 920 @ 4.0Ghz / Gigabyte EX58-Extreme Mobo / 12GB DDR3 triple-channel RAM / 2x Velociraptor HDs in RAID-0 on a dedicated Adaptec controller / nVidia GTX285 GPU 1GB DDR3 / Samsung Synmaster 305t 30" LCD monitor @2560x1600x32 / Coolermaster V8 CPU Cooler / Thermaltake ToughPower QFan 750W PSU / Thermaltake Spedo full tower case / Windows 7 RC 64-bit.

At 1280x720 resolution set for the FRAPS capture I was getting about 55PS unlimited, so I used the FPS_Limiter_0.2 to keep it locked at 25FPS for the video. However, I usually develop and fly on my 30" monitor at 2560x1600 resolution and I average about 22-25FPS over the airport which is plenty smooth for that resolution.

Thanks again for the kind words, we appreciate it!

Well this has to be the best scenery I have ever seen. The video on YouTube is excellent.

Love the way that the tarmac and grass edges blend as they do in reality. The runway/taxyway textures are just superb.

Congratulations to all concerned. You have well & truly raised the bar.
