Hi All,

I have been having a problem with everything on my system running slooow the past couple of weeks. At start, up the desktop short cut icons appear with the Windows generic folder first, then it takes about ten seconds for the normal ones to appear. It never did this before!??? This is just one example of everything taking longer to load/work. The only thing changed recently is that I now have DSL instead of dial up ISP. Checked “System Information” located in accessories, of the 256Mb of Ram on my system it shows only 43Mb available Physical Memory. Before this, it was always about 166Mb available Physical Memory. Does DSL use so much of system Ram?

Any clues would be appreciated

Thanks, Dvalsts

i have the same issue re the desktop icons on start up i have ME allso..it started ages ago i never did manage to stop it...:violent: these days i just ignore it...
dunno why DSL uses more memory is it an allways on connection?
if not then remove it from your start up programs list (get a program called start up manager freeware) and then you can control what starts when you re boot the pc..

Yes, it is always on. I will do as you suggested and see what happens.
Thank You, Dv

I would suggest that you buy another 256mb of memory. What you have at the moment is really just about adequate.
