I run World Community Grid so my computers are very rarely ever turned off. Not sure how long it takes them to boot up but I'd bet it's good bit longer than 7 seconds.

Actually, it says as little as 11 seconds. With a SSD and the latest hardware.

BUT... it's nice to know reboots won't take as long.

Is one better than the other no

They both fill specific needs I have related to computing.

Both have software on them only available for that OS. With out running some kind of Virtual Machine which is still running two different OS systems.

One of my old Win98 boxes used to boot up in about 10 minutes.

I don't think I would sweat 5 minutes on either one of these.

If you could not live with a less than 1 minute boot up time you need to learn some patients :icon_lol: <----- Thats a poor attempt at humor so I inserted the emoticon. It is not directed to anyone person...

Unless its my wife...

But I wouldn't tell her that! :kilroy:

If it makes any of y'all feel any better I stop shutting my pooter off a long time ago...I just put it in sleep mode now.

Yup.
I lucked into "Standby" for WIN XP, and it comes alive immediately, exactly where I left it at SOH :d
Also it avoids the message:

"Shutting down. Do not unplug your computer. Installing update 1 of 365. Windows will shut down your computer automatically...."

One of my old Win98 boxes used to boot up in about 10 minutes.

Typical boot time for a PC with a female user.

:d

Even my old '98 box managed to boot in two minutes and I got XP to boot to ready-for-use within a minute. Seven is (disappointingly) as fast.
Guess I need a SSD after all.

If it makes any of y'all feel any better I stop shutting my pooter of a long time ago...I just put it in sleep mode now.

Suggestion: Put it in "Hibernate". Writes the current user data to the hard drive instead of keeping it in the Ram thus terminating the need for a constant supply with power. Could put a few bucks off your energy bill.
