View Full Version : Converting the FS9 Seafury for FSX!

I've been deprived of the Seafury in FSX, till today. Thanks to some input from Henry and Reddog(Semper Fi,mac!) on unsquishing FS9 models, and some experimentation, BINGO! the Havney/Berry Seafury can be made to run in FSX. FDE and panel needs work, but, it goes, and we are not likely to see a FSX native Seafury for some time, so.
Download the Seafury and updates, including the Spence Flackmodel. You will be useing the model files and panel fron the G-FURY model:
sfury206.zip (http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=132222)

SFREL1.ZIP (http://www.flightsim.com/file.php?cm=SEARCH1&fsec=0&fname=SFREL1.ZIP)

SFRE1U.ZIP (http://www.flightsim.com/file.php?cm=SEARCH1&fsec=0&fname=SFRE1U.ZIP)

sfrel6.zip (http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=71348)

OK. Unpack em all into separate folders. In a new folder, titled seafuryX or some such, place the model folders, and panel folder from sfrel6. place the latest FS9 config and FDE in the new seafuryX folder. Make a copy of sfrel6 texture else where, and place all the textures in your new seafuryX folder. open the copied sfrel6 texture. copy the contents over to the texture folders in your seafuryX folder. When asked to overwrite, select NO. put what ever you want in for sound file, theres a couple of Centaurus sound files around. I would also go to Flying stations, go to the repaints page and DL the 4 excellent repaints there.

http://www.flyingstations.com/repaints-fury.html

you will have to make and title a texture folder for each. copy and paste the textures from the sfrel6 texture folder to each one, when asked to over write, select NO.
Now, open the panel config. file. replace the [Window 00] section with this:

[Window00]
file=Main panel_640.BMP
file_1024=Main panel_1024.bmp
size_mm=640,480

position=7
visible=1
ident=MAIN_PANEL
sizeable=1
window_size= 1.000, 1.000
window_pos= 0.000, 0.000

Save, and open the aircraft config file. Replace all the titles[flightsim.0]ect. with this

Save the file. You'll notice the entrys for the Flying station repaints. use the texture titles for all the texture folders in the new seafuryX folder as is. Watch the syntax, or they will not show up. Also open each of the texture folders and delete the pwrbrwsr. file. you will also need to make a thumbnail JPEG. and place in each texture folder. Dead simple. I used the thumbnails that came with the downloads, and copied the 4 screenshots from Flying stations DL page. rename each in turn - thumbnail- and place in the corresponding texture folder. Done.
everything works.No droptank model though. Oh well.The price is right.
The basics are working in the VC. you get a couple of gauge error messages. I'll have to monkey with the panel next.
I found the model to be divergent in pitch. Still need to do some flight tuning. Go to the config file , open it and scroll down to the section marked flight tuning. I set the pitch stability entry to 1.99 on the second test flight. it'll take some monkeying with, but thats easy.

Thats it. some tweaking has to be done, but dang if she dont look great....

They gave me a Seafury ,
to beat up the Fleet.
Beat up Nelson
and Rodney a treat!
Forgot 'bout the masts
on tall old 'Formid,
and seats in the goofers
were worth fifty quid!

And a quick update. Test flying last night. dial the pitch stability up to 7.55. then nudge the elevator effectivness to 1.30. It also seems over powered,so I tried the air file from the Alpha firebrand, re titltled as 'SeaFury', for comparaison. I'm not sure if it made a big difference yet, other that accelerating at a more realistic rate, and topping out a 380kts or so, a bit closer. I'llhave to check numbers.
The panel- try this config. I poached some compatable gauges from the C-133 and OV-10D panel, so you need those gauge cabs in. Laziness on may part, as those models wereright next to the Seafury in my airplanes folder. VC good except for a dc volts and AC amps I didnt replace yet. Laziness again, as I was in and out of the sim alot, and got sick of xing out error messages.

Thanks for this I've been missing it too, Just a querie did you do something to the prop alpha? secondly when you gonna convert the T20R?

Thanks for the HU and the detailed info on getting it going in FSX. THIS is the kind of thing I like to see rather than a hacked upload claiming to be an FSX aircraft. Way to go! :ernae:

3/7charlie, sorry it does not work for me with the prop model as it is.

Pic 1 engine off wings folded note the background in the prop arc.

Pic 2 engine running a lot of the aircraft invisible behind prop as is the scenery, the fence has dissapeared behind the prop.

Pic 3 quarter view engine running left wing gone as is the cowl and external cockpit.

I have tried all ways to make this acceptable in FSX and failed.

Not sure if SP1 or SP2 has anything to do with it I am using SP2.

Same here that's why I asked earlier, I'm running FSXA

+1. Unfortunately we won't see an end to this now that 3/7 Charlie has been banned. Do you know if anyone is working on a SF for FSX? I imagine a good one would go down a storm.
