Always like a twin propjet. The Aeroworx Super King Air 200 is great but has too many portover issues to use in FSX SP2 - even if you compromise the panel signficantly, the props still reflect badly in SP2. Like very much the new ISDT B200 but may be a long wait for a good VC (you can alias the default B350 2d and VC in the meantime).

The Veneaviones Turbo Commander 690B looks and sounds absolutely wonderful - externally - in FSX, with A2A shockwave lighting, Garret sounds, with no issues at all with the prop disks. Apart for some minor issues that are more easily addressed e.g. need to swap out some incompatible gauges; panel bitmaps could be updated; Flight model seems to require lots of down pitch trim for reasons I have not fully understood or tried to fix yet - whenever I switch to the VC it is clear for about one second - I can see blue sky and clouds fine - but then turns opaque. Have found what I think to be the glass texture - "texture_3_t.bmp" and tried various changes to the alpha layer, e.g. lighter grey, white, black etc and saving it as 32 bit bmp but nothing seems to solve this. Have seen this issue on numerous FS9 portovers and there often - but not always - a fix of some kind.

Any advice most welcome.

I can tell you, that it is fixable because I did it a long time ago. I love this airplane also, great look, great sounds and amazingly quick on takeoff. Having said that, I can't remember exactly what I did, but I know it was a trial and error thing until I got the right combination. Is there also a VC_glass or something like that in the texture folder? I know there is a glass texture (probably the one you found), but I was thinking there was also a VC version too and that's what I had to change.

I know there's gotta be someone else out there who has done this. I'll look around and see if I still have the airplane in a temp folder somewhere and see if I can get the correct texture to check.

Hey, Falcon, I knew I could count on someone like you to respond. Thanks very much for your reply. Knowing it is in fact fixable is very helpful. I think the texture I was editing may not be for the VC, as it also made the tinted windows much lighter in external mode (like the dark windows also on this plane). There are a couple of vc textures that are just grey or black squares when I open them with DXT.bmp - these may be for the vc glass - so I will try disabling them each in turn to see what happens. Let me know if you think of what you did do . . .

The flight model also needs work. Many comment that it leaps off the runway too quickly and flies straight up. I also find whenever reloading the a/c etc that it pitches way up. Giving it 5-6 notches of down trim on takeoff or when setting the AP solves it but that to me suggests a flight tuning setting is not right. Any thoughts what one could tinker with in the air.cfg? Maybe the CG is set to be too tail heavy?

Thanks again and regards

Hmm. No luck with further looking at and tweaking the a/c and panel textures. Nothing looks labelled as glass nor is there anything using DXT.bmp that looks like something you could e.g. fiddle with the alpha layer.

Falcon, please if you can remember what the trick was, I would be hugely grateful!

Does anyone have the Veneaviones Rockwell Turbo Commander 690B and is flying it in FSX? If you do, what was the fix for the VC glass? Shhhhhhhhh! ...

I'm downloading the file and I'll take a look.

Ok I've found the offending texture file and I've changed the alpha channel. I'll attach it here.

SUPERB! Thanks very much Roger. Missed that one - and I see it was the alpha channel that needs modifying. Grateful for your help.:applause:

Could someone please direct me to this Aircraft and is there a NOAA paint somewhere? Hurricane Bill is getting frisky with me after 3 sorties:icon_lol:.

Great fix - thanks Roger!!!

Anyone else having problems with a couple of gauges not showing in the VC? Most display OK, but I'm missing the airspeed gauge and a couple of others (just showing the background).

Dave,
I found a few of the gauges were Fs98 and hence wont work in FsX.

If you slightly lighten the black part of the alpha you will start to see some of the internal glass reflections, if you feel like playing.

Replaced a couple of the non-working gauges for the VC. Substitute the following....

....in Vcockpit01 section;

gauge02=MiniPanel!Airspeed, 289,104,170,170

gauge07=Cessna208!Altimeter, 807,88,191,184

....and in Vcockpit03 section;

gauge02=MiniPanel!Airspeed, 571,105,170,170

gauge07=Cessna208!Altimeter, 25,86,191,184

Both gauges should be in the default FSX gauges folder.

Ditto - I am going to at least start with swapping the default King Air gauges and then see if there is anything around I like better. Would be great if someone more talented than me could maybe upgrade the panel bitmaps too.

I got rid of the annoying "FS98" error messages regarding the guages by simply "commenting them out", using the "//" on each of the offending ones.
I STILL haven't seen any solution to that annoying pitch problem upon takeoff.
Did anyone ever find a way to change something (like the aircraft.cfg file) to fix that pitch issue?
I can not find any place in either the VC or 2D cockpit to adjust trim on my version.
Is there a trim wheel somewhere that I might be missing?
