Howdy folks,
need a F-4 Phantom of any model for FSX. Payware or freeware, but it has to be good. Clickable cockpit, start up procedure and a half decent manual would be nice.

If any of you ladies and gents have views and opinions on which you think is the best F-4 addon I would value your input. Flying under the harbour bridge Sydney Oz in a screaming Fantom, well you just have to be there.

Thank you........................eccles

The only one I know of is still being built. Check:

The bad news is , the best Phantom out there is Cloud9 s F4 and that was FS9 , the flip side , A2A is currently working on a FSX model , I do have the Cloud9 , i tried to install it into FSX with Acelleration and service packs .

Thanks for the replies,
the only two payware efforts I have seen are one from Iris an FG-1 and a Phantom pack from First class simulations. The Iris one looks a little better to me, but no manual.

The aircraft did sterling service I think it deserves more attention, just my two cents.

cheers..........eccles

I'm told that the Cloud9 offering has limited success in FSX, as the XML code is supposedly FS-specific.
There are no current FSX-native F-4s anywhere - despite our screaming for one for a loooooong time.
However, I did port the Alphasim F-4 packs with complete success (some small tweaking). The bad news is that it's no longer available. Shame, innit?

What tweaks did you have to make, dhazelgrove? I have the aircraft, but was hesitant to port it because of the gauge issues usually encountered.

dhazelgrove, why are your Phantoms "in the dark"....don't know how else to say it, like they are constantly in shadows, I never had that problem when porting mine...

I've only got a little laptop (aaaahhh), and it's graphics aren't up to much.
It'll only take SP1, so the features of SP2 and Acceleration are beyond me.

The problem has existed for years, so I just get on with things.

There are a few gauges that need changing - depending on which pack(s) you have.

Pack 1 (USN/USMC) has to change the compass, AoA indexer, ASI and altwarn. I simply used those from the Pack 3 gauge set instead.
Pack 2 likewise.

Dave, I tried as you suggested installing my Phantom Pack 1 as is into FSX and then copied the gauges only from Phantom Pack 3 into the Gauges folder. When selecting the F-4 Phantom to fly, the only anomalies encountered were an incompatible F-15 airspeed gauge and a Tornado Radio Altimeter Lamp. Other than that, the aircraft looks good for an FS9 airplane and flies very well. Being a Phantom Phanatic, this will have to do til the A2A Phantom is released.

I'm awaiting the A2A bird too :)
