Something has just left Dunsfold (home of BBC TV's Top Gear show) on it's way to your PC and it is not the 'Stig', it is another masterpiece from Dave (does the man ever sleep?) Garwood.....the two seat Hawker Hunter for FSX.

Release is a matter of days (hours?) away, just the final package to check out. Direction to where it will be uploaded to follow ASAP!

I am just working my way through the models (7 of them!) and paints (14 of them!!)....not to mention the custom sound!!! No paint kit as yet though, at least not in the original DL to be posted.

I am sure Dave will be here soon to ask any questions, me? I am just a production test pilot and know nothing!!

Yep, a texture got missed from the upload zip :redf:

I've uploaded it to the library here, but in the meantime you can download it here: http://daveg.cbfsim.org/files/missing_texture.zip
Drop the glassVC.dds file into your SimObjects\Airplanes\Hunter T\texture folder.

Apologies.

Thanks Dave for the texture. That fixed the problem.

Also, my apologies for reporting having dowloaded from flightsim.com. I do 90% of d/ls from there. Just let my mind wander when I wrote of the DX10 problem. I'm sure you were a bit perturbed over the false info - sorry.

If you put in the new Hunter T the red gauges texture, that is optional in the Hunter F (gauges_LM.dds), you'll have all red gauges!!! It is very beutiful and usefull too...

Two WiP pictures for this great Hunter:

T. Mk.7 XF310 - FRADU 1982. This was a former RAF aircraft and for some time in the early 80's it had a very faded and dirty camuoflage scheme without roundels.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/JensOle/British/xf310.jpg

T. Mk.8C WT799 - FRADU 1982. As several other FRADU T.8 Hunters, it had got a RAF Hunter camo painted replacement tail fin.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/JensOle/British/WT799.jpg

Both paints started out as simple reworks of Dave's original textures, but they soon evolved into more or less completly new textures. I have used part from his great single seat hunter master textures, but the paint schemes and a lot of the stencils/details have been redone.

Although the aircraft was designed around SP2/Acceleration, that shouldn't make any difference to the gear, as that uses standard code.
The only thing that would keep the gear down is if you've activated the gear emergency switch.

August 24th, 2009, 13:15
Hi Dave

Thanks for that advice - but I believe the "problem" is my own fault. I had only just downloaded and installed the a/c - and barely had time to do a CTRL-E start , take off and a quick look at the a/c. My problem was that I was delaying the retraction of gear and it wouldn't retract -- due to excessive speed?? It retracts fine if I retract it immediately upon takeoff. I am going to have to allocate some time to this wonderful a/c of yours.

Regards

Barry

Hmmm - definitely must be doing something wrong here. Just can't get the gear to come up with this bird. Got it to work once in a number of attempts.

Startup procedure has been either to use CTRL-E or manual start (turn battery on , start engine, turn alternator on, fly) Have oil pressure OK.

Any ideas please??

Barry

Are you using the VC controls or the "G" key?

DaveWG, you are one awesome maker of all flying things! :ernae:

barryward12345
August 25th, 2009, 13:51
Am using G key - will try VC controls.

EDIT - just tried VC controls . Gear up/down switches work - but gear remains down and 3 green lights remain

Further EDIT - sometimes I can get the gear to work and sometimes not. Have been trying it using a. different models and b. loadup after preloading default flight or not. It's got me a bit confused now.

Barry

DaveWG
August 25th, 2009, 14:43
You're not the only one who's confused!

I think you're probably over speed for the gear. Looking at my cfg, the limits are set a bit low.
Here's a modified cfg, with a higher threshold on the gear damage speed.

http://daveg.cbfsim.org/files/new_aircraft_cfg.zip

Backup your aircraft.cfg, then replace it with the one from this zip.

Thanks Dave

Excellent - that has fixed my problem. I wasn't raising the gear fast enough, and the Hunter gathers speed quickly after takeoff.

Barry

barryward12345
August 25th, 2009, 22:10
Nope - That didn't fix my problem - but I have finally found out what my problem was. I was so fixated on trying to figure out why my gear up/down would only work every so often, that I failed to see that half my instruments weren't working either. ( noticed the radios first) -- then realised that the operation of the gear appears to be mapped to the Master Avionics switch function. ( can't actually find a switch for that - but using the generic mapped key for Master Avionics switch turns on all instruments and allows the gear to work)

Now to see if I can fly her :ernae:

Dave,

Are there some psds available for the trainer model ? I have started some extra detailing of the textures (more rivets and fasteners, mostly represented as bump maps) and would have liked at least some wireframe layers for the T. I want to redo the fuselage specular maps as well as the panel detail of the fwd fuselage of the trainers is different.

Thanks
