Some GREAT news for the P-38 fans out there (and there are a lot! :wavey:)! The P-38 is looking, flying, AND sounding FANTASTIC! Im very pleased with how its turning out, and this will truly be the apex of WWII warbird add-on's for some time to come! Here are a few in-game screenshots I took as I buzzed around Friday Harbor.

I dont think the FM is finished, but she handles very well. Solid as a rock! She also has a lot of float during landing, with those massive flaps! Dirty power-on stall was tested all the way down to 53MPH in real life!

Now truth be told, im not one just to wander around aimlessly in any aircraft, but the P-38 was a joy to fly. For being an over-powered warbird, she is remarkably dossile! Roll rate needs a little improvement I think, but I will need to look at my graphs to make that call. Having two massivly heavy gyro's on the wings didnt help the P-38's roll rate, but the L should feel snappy with its hydrolic assisted ailerons. Its still a ways from being released and we are working hard to squash the bugs.

The release date is set to be "when its done". :ernae:

Not planned, but final textures are not decided yet. If you noticed, the camo P-38 is blank. Paint kits are most definitely planned, and im sure skin artist's will have a field day with this baby! Once released, if it doesn't have a Tangerine skin, im sure someone will do it.

Yeah, you've got the first beta of the J-15 flight model Gibbage , so, being the mid-J, it is going to be a bit sluggish on the roll, including the "eternal wait" at the beginning (pilot's would complain that it seemed to take an eternity to begin the roll.) Power steering on the L does indeed give it more zing. :d I'll be sending that one to you guys as soon as we work through a couple more issues.

Glad you like the sounds too :d

I have been modeling the P-38 for years, and I am not impressed with the Just Flight's P-38 offering, but then again, how much can you trust a competitor when he talks about someone else's product? Speaking as a P-38 fan, the pointy Madonna-bra spinners is enough to make the rest of the aircraft questionable. From what I have seen, thats just the start of the problems, and it dont end till after the rudder.

Anyways, its not polite or PC for me to speak ill of another companies product. Ill leave that up to the customers :173go1:

Very much. Just like you, I have had the pleasure of seeing many P-38's fly in real life. Even had the rare opportunity to watch 3 fly at the same time at Chino! Also worked directly with Steve Hinton on a TV show. I consider myself to be blessed to even be close to these rare aircraft, let alone feel the prop-wash as they taxi by me. Ill upload a video I made some time back to show you what I mean. ;) I had to duck the pitot I was so close.

Thanks Gib for the info. Knowing how attentive to detail you are, I know this 38 will be one of the best released. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v64/GT182/Thumbup.gif

Here is a little treat for the P-38 fans. A video I shot at Chino Planes of Fame. I doubt anyone can get this close to an operational P-38. This is how close I get.

I had what I think is probably my only chance at a P-38 about a year or so ago when Steve Hinton Flew Glacier Girl into our airport on his way back to the Houston Museum from an Air Show. He didn't stick around long, just down for fuel and then on to Houston. A very personable guy and we were able to climb up and check out the cockpit while he took a break. Just being there to see a piece of History was remarkable, but to rub elbows with it was a once in a lifetime experience. We are some lucky SOB's eh? lol.

I know Steve very well and we have worked together with him on a few projects. Great guy and one of the luckiest SOB's to walk the fact of the earth. Not only does he own his own P-38 (and about any other warbird known) he was the first man to fly not only Glacier Girl, but Lefty's White Lightning after restoration. That tells you a LOT about how much they trust his skills as a pilot. I would have him test out our P-38, but he's not much into sims. I dont blame the guy, since at any moment, he can fly the real thing!

. . . .he was the first man to fly not only Glacier Girl, but Lefty's White Lightning after restoration. . . .
Is that the P-47? If so, that was hangared up here as well during the hurricane that hit the Texas coast and pretty much destroyed the museum. At the time, I just knew that it looked like a fresh paint job. . .we had to put it's batteries on the charger to get em ready for the flight out to Breckenridge. Nice looking airplane.

I know I've seen Steve in here on occasion, flying one airplane or another. Stewart Dawson has his Spirit of Texas Hawker Sea Fury Hangared out at the airport and at times I'll see Steve come in to his area. We did a complete restoration on Cavenaugh's P-51 and Steve was the one that flew it in for him, then had a T-6 Texan come in right behind him to fly him back south, lol. . .must be nice, lol.

Both White Lightning and Glacier Girl are P-38's. White Lightning was a reno racing P-38 that had its supercharger blow and had to set down in a corn field. The family owned and operated aircraft had to be sold to Red Bull since they could not afford to restore the aircraft back into flying condition. The P-38 was restored into amazing condition, and first flew under Steve's control.

Glacier Girl is the most famious P-38 ever, buried under 200 feet of ice, for 60 years. They melted a tunnel to the crash sight and recovered it peace by peace. They restored it to emaculate condition, and again, Steve was the man tapped for the first few flights.

Here is the Red Bull/Lefty's White Lightning

Steve Hinton flew the B-25 "Photo Fanny" (out of Chino) which was used in a Bud Light TV commercial. I was lucky enough to get a gig doing a stunt jump for the commercial out of a DC-3. While the Mitchell was on site I got to jump from it too with Mr. Hinton at the controls. Was kind of tricky. Had to sort of slither out of the belly hatch, aft of the bombay. The door had been removed.

That B-25 has been in more TV and movies then any AAA celeb. I did a TV show out at Chino and they used it as a camera ship. They took the tail turret off and replaced it with a gyro camera.

The guy sticking his head into the hatch you jumped out from is the camera operator that sat back there with the director as the aircraft flew around it. Very cool setup.
