View Full Version : Freeware Gems

OK, as suggested, I'm starting a thread to point relatively new users to some of the older freeware files that many of us may have but never talk about any more. Here's what I'd like to get from you:
Download site - must be free for anyone to download.
Filename, including the filenames of any needed updates or patches.
A brief description of what you get.
Only one or two screenshots please.
I'm opening this up to not only scenery, but aircraft as well. Same rules apply.
I'll start with a couple of my favorites. The first one is on AvSim. It's KBOS scenery by George Grimshaw, one of the driving forces behind FlyTampa. It's a great example of the quality that you pay for in all of their other packages. The base pack is bostonv2.zip and the update is bostonv2.1_update.zip, which adds a few new features.
The second one is also on AvSim. Warwick "Wozza" Carter's P-51D v2 is one of the most brilliant freeware creations I have in my hangar. The quality and features easily beat much of the payware that's out there! In addition, with a little creativity, the paints that Garry Smith did for v1 work perfectly with v2.

That's a very good idea, but I guess you should really state some precise criteria for defining what a "gem" really is.
For example, I think that an aircraft without a good VC cannot be called a gem, however
some members who only fly with 2D panels might think otherwise.
In the end, the topic might be filled with anything but gems, don't you think ?
How about creating some topics presenting an addon, and if everybody agrees on the fact that it is a gem, then you add it to this topic, keeping it clean (e.g, only you could enrich it) ?

Hi,
By any meaningful criteria most of the releases by our own Milton Shupe would qualify as freeware gems !
His Aero Commanders are great, you can do astonishing things with his Dash-7 despite its size and the Beechcraft D18 is a reminder of how flying was done in the old days.
All can be viewed and downloaded here:

O.K., I'm with:
To put more "combat" into the flight, my recommendation is the
SECTIONF8 F-86 Sabre.
It's not only that she's a real beauty and great fun to fly (and to learn to handle an ancient high-performance aircraft...), she also features some "bells&whistles" which are hard to find in FS2004 aircraft (pay- or freeware).

Lots of nice repaints out there, such as this... :icon_lol:

That is the wrong Sabre - I believe that the files names are the same on all sites, and besides, we called ourselves "SectionF8," not "The Dogpatch Crew" anyway...

More freeware Gems:
It feels like a cop-out to say "anything by such-and-such designer," somehow. It is a little bit too all-inclusive, if you understand me. We naturally expect there to be some variation, even among the best of the best. SO, I hope you will pardon me when I say simply: EVERYTHING by Bill Lyons.
His aircraft are many and varied. And so uniformly good!
All file names are the same on both flightsim.com and avsim.com unless otherwise noted.
Peitenpol and Stinson package:
Tiger moth: cctiger4.zip
Water: fs9wat2a.zip
Cessna T-50: skyking2.zip (marginal in FS9, but the sounds are excellent!)
Fleet 80 Canuck: canuck80.zip (not FS9 compatible)
More water: cs9watga3.zip
Golden Hawaii: cc8ghf.zip
Grumman Goose: cc9g21f2.zip on avsim, cc9g21f.zip on flightsim
Luscombe 8A: cc12lusf.zip
Piper Cub: cub4free.zip (FS9 updated version available from http://www.theoldhangar.net/ - try it out!)
Piper Tripacer: cc13p22f.zip
Piper Apache: cc7pa23f.zip
Quad City Challenger: cc11qc2f.zip
Silver Wings: slvrwngs.zip
Skyship SD: skyshipd.zip (old, but perfectly serviceable in FS9) avsim only
Fujifilm blimp: fuji2002.zip (almost identical to the Skyship SD) avsim only
Travel Air series: cc10taf.zip
Waco Biplanes: waco4free.zip (old, but perfectly serviceable in FS9)
Still more water: fs9wat.zip
Ryan STA: ccryan4.zip on flightsim only

Piper Super Ace: supace.zip
Piper Pacer: Pa20_04.zip
Piper TriPacer: Pa22_04.zip
Cessna 140: Ces140.zip and C140upde.zip
Cessna 140 Float Plane: Ces140fl.zip
Zenith CH 801: ch801_v3.zip
Beechcraft Model 18 Volpar Wheeled: Volpar.zip and vlpr_fix.zip
Beechcraft Model 18 Volpar Amphibian: Vol_AM.zip
Noorduyn Norseman Float Plane: Norsefv2.zip
Brian has a number of other nice aircraft on flightsim.com, for FS2004 and FS2002....and for FS2000 if anyone wants to go back that far. All of the FS2002 planes that I have tried work very well in FS2004.
There are a number of nice repaints for Brian's planes on Flightsim.com.
There is also a FS2004 version of the Nooduyn Norseman with wheels, but I have to find it. The FS2002 version on Flightsim.com does not have a VC, the newer version does.

Yeah, D Maltby's stuff is excellent.
One that I always liked alot was Airhead's Decathlon. I stopped flying it after RealAir's came out as I found the FM to be a little more "nuanced" but Airhead's really was great. Very nice VC too...
However, it's tough to find now since it was distributed by ffs who are now out of business.

The Nord 3202 at http://www.restauravia.com/page10.html has an excellent vc (either the front or rear cockpit) and some very nice touches like the engine noise becoming quieter when the canopy is closed. Sitting in the rear vc and seeing the moving head of the pilot in front makes it a very real experience. The aircraft shakes when you start and stop the engine. And it has a frightening stall! Definitely payware quality.

Since around here, beauty really is in the eye of the beholder, I'm leaving it up to each user. To me, many of Mike Stone's planes are gems, but others relegate them to AI use. I'm just asking for what members here think are their favorites from the past. I don't want to start any "this is better than that" in this thread. If a new user downloads something I like but then they don't care for it, I'm fine with that. As another cliche says, "One man's meat is another man's poison."

More Gems of Freeware:
Holger "The Amazing" Sandmann
His Glacier Bay scenery is done to payware standards - indeed, in shares many of the best features of his amazing Tongass Fjords payware package. It is a total-environment-upgrade, addressing almost all features of the sim in a large area of Alaska. Truly, it is a "Must-Have" scenery!
Attached are some shots of one recent flight there...
The scenery can be had at avsim and flightsim with these files names: glbayv2a.zip, glbayv2b.zip
I am also an enthusiastic user of Holgers truly amazing Columbia River Gorge - a large and full-featured enhancement of the Columbia River area in Washington and Oregon. It can be had at avsim with these file names: cr_gorge.zip, crg_upd1.zip. A very nice AI package can be found with the file name gorge_ai.zip. There is also an update to make this scenery compatible with Ultimate Terrain - utusacrg.zip - and another file to make it compatible with FlightZone 2: Portland - http://forums.simflight.com/viewtopic.php?f=231&t=75470.
This is a very nice scenery indeed! The last two shots attached show small portions of the area covered, and neither are terribly representative - but you can see that it is a very nice place anyway!
Anyone who wishes to augment my screenshots with better ones of their own may - these sceneries should not be left misrepresented by my feeble attempts!

An often forgotten gem of awesomeness: the PWDT Zlin 43

Great freeware airports:
EDLM, Marl-Loemuehle
edlm2005.zip (http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=95096) on flightsim.com
Animated people, traffic, custom AI (with decent repaints should you wish to fly them), a very nicely executed airport, and a rather unique and one-of-a-kind in FS flyable aircraft model are included in this high-quality package.

Louisiana Wetlands
lawetlandsvol1.zip, lawetlandsvol1sr1.zip, louisianawetlandsv2.zip on Avsim
A beautiful set of small bush airstrips in southern Louisiana. These are all very close in proximity and are very well done, with custom AI traffic and plenty of animated birds.
Beware, these do not play nice with Ultimate Terrain, USA! As the readme says:
These FS Airfields are based on real-world private airfields that no longer exist due to coastal erosion and years of neglect and hurricanes...
so you may need to do some fiddling with scenery design techniques to use these with Ultimate Terrain. That's what I did, and have not regretted it!

Great freeware airports:
RealNZ Paraparauma
http://www.windowlight.co.nz/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&id=14&Itemid=52
There are many very nice sceneries included on the linked page, and many of them may be mentioned later in this thread (some, like Coromandel and Wanaka are of especial mention, IMHO), but I highlight Paraparauma because it is a very nice little photo-real aerodrome not available elsewhere that I happen to value... it is not fancy, but it is as solid as it comes.
KPLN, Pellston Regional
kpln_fs9.zip on Flightsim; kpln_fs2004.zip, kpln_afcad.zip, kpln_fs2004_patch.zip on Avsim
Payware quality - in fact, high-end-payware quality, with photo-textures for whatever a photo-texture can be applied to, custom AI traffic, animated ground traffic, autogen, animations, lights... I am not completely certain, but I believe it also does a good deal of enhancement to the surrounding areas not covered by the photo-textures by way of land-class... As I have said before, many great sceneries match this one, but none can better it.

FS2004 Buecker 131 Jungmann
Name: bueck131.zip Size: 18,579,934 Date: 02-27-2008 Downloads: 1,146
FS2004 Buecker 131 Jungmann. The Buecker Jungmann was the first plane produced by the new Buecker Flugzeugbau GmbH company founded in 1932. The prototype Bu 131A V-1, registration D-3150, was conceived as a training/private plane capable of aerobatics and powered by an 80 hp Hirth HM60R inline engine. It made its inaugural flight on 27th April 1934. By Oliver Fischer.
FS2004 Junkers-52/3M
Name: junkr522.zip Size: 36,686,753 Date: 02-27-2008 Downloads: 2,638
FS2004 Junkers-52/3M. The Ju52 was widely used in the thirties. It made many experimental flights all over the world and routes into the Far East were made possible by this aircraft. The "Junkers-Flugzeugwerke" in Dessau developed it originally as a single engine cargo aircraft in 1930, under chief constructor Ernst Zindel. A few months later construction began on the well known three-engined JU 52/3m, the change was triggered by several interested airlines looking for a reliable design. This version saw commercial service first in 1932. By Oliver Fischer.

Hi,
great thread.
here's a couple more names for searches
Libar Guzman's great C-46 Commando
Manuele Villa, Stefano Meneghini who I think work together (?) sometimes to produce fabulous early and 1930ies airliners from Savoia Marchetti and FIAT. Am waiting for the G-12 which I think is somewhere just over the horizon ! Available from flightsim and others
www.calclassic.com (http://www.calclassic.com) for a wonderful range of propliners-- DC6s, DC7s, Martins and Convairs..all now with worked over VCs and all great aircraft to fly. A project from Manfred Jahn and team has been the Beautiful Constellation in a range of models and textures. A truly wonderful work of computer art!
Still findable is the original Connie(FSDZigns) without VC from John White which is a fabulous model .
I nearly missed out Hauke Keitel and his 2 great airliners; the FW200 and Ju90 !

another scenery recommendation, from 2005 this time,
its' the Isle of Usedom, better known as the location of a certain Peenemunde military airbase.
make sure and get the update too, then it'll need a little bit of fiddling with layer priorities
once added to your scenry .cfg to get things to display nicely.

It's a scenery package that basically transforms the entirety of Australia. I don't know how well it behaves with other add-ons for the continent, but frankly, I can't imagine needing much more than whats included with it. It also comes with custom ground textures for each of the major areas (the south, west, south-east, etc) that are changed via an outside app. If you plan to fly in Oz, you start the VOZ Switcher, choose the area you wish to fly, it loads the textures and you go flying. Then if you want to fly somewhere else on the globe, you start the VOZ Switcher, "un-VOZ" the textures, and again go flying...simple. The VOZ switcher shows a custom image when the sim loads so you know if you have VOZ textures installed, just in case you forget to change them back.

One great scenery comes from Russia: the UNNT scenery by the Tolmachevo Team... a really great scenery (one of the best IMO and I'm talking about both freeware and payware sceneries)
The only bad thing is it's really far from other places...
You can find this scenery at avsim.com and avsim.ru (the last updates for this scenery are on the russian site but don't worry there is an english translator there, I don't speak russian at all but managed to get this scenery there...)

Ito has a freeware F-4 out...no VC. There are F-4s with VCs, but they are payware.
I have the best of both worlds...sort of. I have a series of F-4s, with VCs, that are freeware. The downside is that they are older Alpha Sim models, with no shine, very very basic VCs.
While not superb, they are good enough for me for now....until that day someone makes an F-4 with a VC or I suddenly get rich enough to get the payware versions.
______________
A-4s. Again Ito has some A-4s...but no VCs. The AlphaOldies series of A-4s work in FS2004, mostly...
Razbam.org.....go there and check out their A-4 packages. I have Package number 4.....some seriously nice Skyhawks. I got mine during a half-price sale, but even the full price isn't that harsh....$20 per package I think. Just pick the package the offers the models you are really wanting and you are set.

Quoted from the detailed operating instructions:
Please take the time and read the following carefully. By not following these rules you will not be able to enjoy the aircraft the way it was intended. It might look that the AddPack had only been created to give you a hard time which certainly isn’t the case. The original aircraft is indeed difficult to operate, and it sure does take some time until you will be able to master the procedures. The time spent reading this document is well worth it.

And the (C)FS community has a short memory as well. Does the name Corrado La Posta still say something? I still fly his wonderfull Fiat G.50 and Macchi MC.202 Folgore quite often.
Speaking about Italian aircrafts; Stephano's and Manuele's models are real gems as well and definitely on par with the top payware designers.

Yes but there is little or no value in saying "so-and-so" makes great models.

I think the aim was to pick out individually, freeware gems that shine brightest.
Now that you mention it, though, piglet's OV-10 is a long-time favourite, and is available here at SOH, with a couple of updates.
It has the funkiest nosegear suspension bob...

Now you tell me...just as I am about to leave - on my POSKY B777-200! (http://www.projectopensky.com/downloads-index.php)
Installation is a bit of a multi-step chore...
However, the result is worthwhile: external detailing is as good as ever, a POSKY strong point.
But the showstopper is the VC, one of the best freeware I've ever come across.
Even if flying big tubes is not what you regularly do, you could park this on the ramp at your favourite airport, and watch the AI go by from that VC.
A real gem.

Tom,
maybe making it into a 'Freeware classics' Sub-forum? That would preserve it for prosperity. Maybe with separate threads for Scenery, mesh, tubes, GA, military, vintage, warbirds, etc.
ét Voila, a permanent reference for future newbies?
BTW, AWESOME thread, as relatively recent CFS2 convert, shows me some I missed, many thanks.

You could have stickies for each category so they don't vanish. Nominations for classic candidates being made through normal threads, only making it into the hall of fame stickies when acknowledged as worthy? That would filter out the new stuff that has the new 'shiny thing' factor only to dull to soon, keeping the stickies for the long-legged true classics. We all suffer from new toy syndrome now and again, sometimes the shine wears off to quickly.

For those who only fly Freeware there is a free Vulcan and a free Shackleton, both by the now defunct (or possibly revived) Phoenix Designs. While not up to the standard of new Payware models and both missing VCs the external modelling is nicely done and I do enjoy flying the vulcan (althugh I'm a little suspicious of the Bomb-bay doors animation)

I do not know, but has somebody mentioned the Cessna L-19 from Massimo Taccoli??? To be found at the normal suspects (flightsim, Avsim, etc) and you have military and civilian models with wheels, floats and skis.

On flightsim you can get all the different variations of the L-19 used by the French Army. They are done by Michel Gerard. He has done French textures for a lot of freeware aircraft.
I also found a Swedish version of the Saab 105 on FSnordic. It is aliased to the Austrian one so you need both installed. It says it is for the payware version but it works anyway.

Tom Clayton
September 6th, 2009, 12:44
The "G" model Fortress is the only plane I've ever been able to land from the VC! The contact points on the Stinsons need to be tweaked. The steering is set to zero, so rudder input does nothing and even diff braking is tough. I used 60° for the steering angle on the t-dragger, and 50° for the amphibian. I seem to remember doing the same thing for the bomber too, but I just can't remember.:isadizzy:

Located in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in upstate NY USA, this facility is owned by Warren County and run by RichAir. Although it has a 5000 foot main runway, KGFL is a non-controlled airfield catering to small angine aircraft up to a few private jets serving 'The Northcountry' New York. It has recently received several upgrades including four new GA hangars large enough to accommodate the needs of buisness jets. All objects fully designed and completely redone in Gmax using high resolution custom photoreal 32 bit textures. Optional DTX textures included. Also includes new AFCAD file, more accurate airport grounds perimeter, satellite photoreal grounds, custom taxiways, taxisigns and taxilights, area roads, animated hangar doors, and near area landclass. No AI traffic tracks included with this release, but AFCAD designed to support several AI. Rwy12 objects required for a few static aircraft and parking lot light poles. By EdGeneer Cox.

Wow, Im flattered, I just put that out today :)
And for the mipmaps, I just figured out 2 hours ago that I forgot to do them, I am an idiot... If you do make them yourselves, make sure you ignore mipmapping the fences, ant_twr and fencebar textures, as transparancy oddities in fs are magnified when mipmapped, BUT try it yourself and see how it looks. I went to the dtx3 fences and ant_twr after I mipmapped everything else and it looked better unmipmapped... (the fences, that is)
I came back in here to add the P3-C Orion package that was out a bit ago. OK, back to some older scenery, for those that like a little enhancement to
'bush' airstrips, go here -----> http://www.timberwolfaviation.com/downloads/index.php
and search out those sceneries by 'Frank Betts'
Franks' own site closed down maybe 2/3 yrs ago, and though the pages are archived in the 'wayback machine'
you won't find the d/loads there, and even the timberwolf site is starting to lose files, so I'd say grab what you can before its' gone.
This is his 'Bronson Creek' (CAB5) enhancement

Built by the Waco Classic Aircraft Corporation this new/old biplane combines the beautiful and classic lines of the 1930s Waco and the new world of modern avonics. Of all the antique and/or classic biplanes of the pre-war era, the Waco is certainly the most beautiful of them all and Bill Lyons has packaged several repaints of the wheeled version and 2 repaints of a float version in this single download. Having an excellent dynamic 3D virtual cockpit (as all of Bill's aircraft have had since the days of FS98) and excellent sounds, this is truly an FS classic! Bear!

One which is not mentioned yet is the Mig 29 Fulcrum by Eduardo Fadul. The package can be found at Simviation (FS2004 Military page 58). The package includes 7 models and 9 differrent textures.
There are many additional textures available for this model, including one spectacular "Fulcrum farewell" texture from the German Luftwaffe.
The Aermacchi MB326H package by David Friswell, Garry Smith and Warwick Carter should not be forgotten as well. Nice Italian small jet, which is available at Simviation (FS2004 Military page 92).

I'd like to nominate this little gem.
Shigeru Tanaka's "Stits Sky Baby"
At one time the worlds smallest biplane
It was originally released back in 2003 for FS2002 and updated for FS2004
It is a compact and spirited little guy and a lot of fun to fly.
This airplane must be one of the ultimate homebuilts and would certainly be exciting to fly in real life.
The textures are good and the VC is perfectly usable.
It feels quite highly wing loaded (not a huge surprise looking at it) and has very short control movement arms but it cruises quite nicely at a decient pace.
I have had a ball in it recently since rediscovering it after reading this thread and thinking back on some of the gems of the past.
I am using the texture from Shigeru's original FS2002 release with the config, airfile and sounds from his FS2004 Gold edition update because I prefer the original texture.
You can download both files from flightsim.com.
File names are stskybb.zip for the original FS2002 version and stskybg.zip for the FS2004 update.

FS2004 Stearman Model 75 Duster and Sprayer Package (http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/syb.cgi?section=vintage&file=st75.zip). Boeing Stearman Model 75 Duster and Sprayer. A four-airplane package for FS2004 that represents a 10-year history of one ag-plane from 1955 to 1965. Features four highly detailed models with fully animated parts, detailed and animated pilot figure, visual effects, complex virtual cockpit with clickable controls, custom gauges, and engine damage modeling. Each model has accurate flight dynamics, with realistic stalls, high drag slips, and spins with autorotation. This package also includes as scenery an ag-operations hangar, and dirt airstrip. Don't think anyone's mentioned a fun scenery add-on for Ravalli. MT oriented to helicopter flying. The file is 2nd AG Advanced Training Base by LBMartin 2005, Version 3.0 (v2.0 + Playground), file name 2ndag_ravalli_6s5.zip.
It offers a variety of challenging helipads in all locations, a signed low-level practice riverbed that is lots of fun to fly, and some missions. Toss in some other great free scenery of hospitals, mountain cabins and look-out towers and the area is one big awsome playground.

Another maker who deserves mention in this thread: J.E.Narcizo
This fella has produced a good number of aircraft over the years. His Piper PA-11 Cub Special and Piper P-18 Super Cub series are well worth having. His PA-18 Super Cub V3 package will give you standard wheeled version and a tundra wheeled variants and his older PA-18 Super Cub Float, while lacking a detailed VC, is still well worth having. I was just flying the Super Cub Float Plane in Norway...some beautiful lakes to fly over in that nation.
Go to Flightsim.com, do a search for J.E.Narcizo and scroll through several pages of his planes and repaints for them.

Guys --
Just had a funeral at church and am getting ready to do youth choir in a few minutes, BUT this thread has been one of the best in recent memory. It's so much fun to see what people like to fly! As for me, I have a fond spot for old heavy iron, so I really like:
DC-4s (both Arik Hohmeyer's and Jens Kristensen's are fine -- Arik's are great for FS2002);
Rick Piper's Vickers Viscounts;
CalClassic's DC-6Bs;
and when I get in the mood to fly jets:
TU-104 (seems as if the site is www.tu104.ru (http://www.tu104.ru));
Canberras from Bill Holker (classic british files)
T-38 from Owen Hewitt
Thanks, guys! GREAT THREAD! :applause:

http://www.flightsim.com/n/unnt2008.gif FS2004 Scenery--Tolmachevo - 2008 (UNNT), Novosibirsk, Russia. The main features of "Tolmachevo-2008" scenery are the scenery has been developed considering changes that have taken place within the last three years; a photo-terrain of the airfield and surroundings has been created; the airport has been moved to its actual position; the scenery's area has been noticeably extended: a complex of warehouses to the south of the airport, military area buildings and the city of Ob have been added; a visual model of the runway lighting equipment has been created--it consists of runway lights, aproach lights and PAPI lights; moving airport vehicles and active jetways have been introduced; new models and textures of the airport vehicles have been made. By Tolmachevo Team: Fedor Burakov (a.k.a. Hawker) scenery design and Usachev Pavel AFCAD and information support. (See also UNNT_104.ZIP (http://www.flightsim.com/file.php?cm=SEARCH1&fsec=0&fname=UNNT_104.ZIP))
way the heck out there but worth a stop in a heavy jet... i mean, how many folks fly to Kazakhstan or there abouts. UNNT is north of that!

Today I downloaded the Armstrong Whitworth Argosy by Rick Piper. Somehow I had never noticed this one before. It has a good VC and exterior model considering it was already released in 2005.
It is a bit more of a challenge to fly because the engines can overheat or ice up. So read the manual before your first flight or you could have a nasty surprise mid flight.

Hi,
Boeing Stearman Model 75 Duster and Sprayer package
IMHO it's some problems of shadows rendering for this Stearman ....
I'm sure .. the plane is not floating above the ground (if I modify the contacts points the wheels will sink in the ground but the shadow will stay weird)

Piglets T33 will always be in my hanger, after reinstalling FS9, she's the first add-on plane installed, easy to fly but challanging enough to be fun,
i esp like the larg amount of paints you can download, there dos'nt seem to be an airforce that did'nt fly the T33. here's some of my fav's

Yep, this T-Bird is still amazing!
One (of the several) things I love on Piglet's planes is the varying appearance of the bare metal panels: Each of those tin plates looks different!
Great! :applause:

Too lazy to go through everything (Thanks in advance, Tom) so maybe some have been mentioned.

Still havent tried the Islander (couldnt be bothered trying to put it all together and no VC (?)) and the Bleriot but had many flights in the Jungmann (best biplane in FS9 IMO payware or freeware) and the wonderful Mustang. Having tried just about every water texture upgrade available I've found that the freeware gem "OceanFX 2" (ofx20sa.zip) by Johan de Vries (utilizing Ed Truthan's freeware oceansfx.zip & oceanstx.zip) finally renders water as best as FS9 can display. Good riddance cartoon blue.

Two more freeware gems for the list: Both by the late Greg Pepper
Beech Super G 18
Beech Bonanza A-35
I am sure there are other gems by Greg that I have not discovered. Both of these planes could use some paint jobs (they are both on my list of projects). The Super G is a more elegantly appointed twin engine (RADIALS!) that will look superb in some regional airline/commuter skins. The Bonanza A-25 is a slick little hot rod of a plane with no vertical or horizontal tail surfaces...instead it has two tail surfaces that are angled someplace between horizontal and vertical that act as elevators and rudder...very neat looking.

The only two that are listed as "fully functioning" are the Spitfire and the Lightning. For me, the Spitfire is so-so, but the Lightning is a work of art!:applause: And since I don't need to buy a gazillion variants, the demo is all I need!

Tom,
maybe making it into a 'Freeware classics' Sub-forum? That would preserve it for prosperity. Maybe with separate threads for Scenery, mesh, tubes, GA, military, vintage, warbirds, etc.
ét Voila, a permanent reference for future newbies?
BTW, AWESOME thread, as relatively recent CFS2 convert, shows me some I missed, many thanks.
Jamie
Not a bad idea at all. I don't have the access to do that, but I can take it up with the ones that do.
I was also thinking of some sort of list collated from the different links here. Still mulling that over...
Meanwhile - keep 'em coming!:ernae:
in short, this thread is fantastic!
although, it's overwhelming....
I am over amped. :isadizzy:
organizing into separate threads,
like Jamie suggested,
would sure help the brain cells.
personally, I'm looking mostly for Scenery and terrain upgrades,
like Holger Sandmann's work
then Utilities and maybe some must have gauges.
Tom, this is a daunting task,
many thanks for the effort.
