Anyone know how, or where to get the Airhead Virtual Works Decathlon? Looks superb, though, when I try to download the file, it always fails.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks fellas :ernae:

Here you go:

http://web.archive.org/web/20070609170945/airhead.hfdd.com/airworthy/04_8kcab_downloads.php

Hi,

Here you go:

http://web.archive.org/web/200706091..._downloads.php (http://web.archive.org/web/20070609170945/airhead.hfdd.com/airworthy/04_8kcab_downloads.php)

I suppose you don't even tested the download links
The real trouble starts already :)
As usual with Backweb .. those links for download are dead links .. and this for obvious reasons.
Conclusion:
The model in my links is not the same as your request.
But .. I must have it.

The Airhead Deke is the one that pretty much can't be found anymore. I have it, but the installer's too big to email.

The LIC version by Kevin Lechmanski is just as good, if just a little tougher on frames - at least on my system.

Sorry about that. It's been awhile since I got it there. But the links to the paints still work. It does show the file name for the plane. I would look it up at the usual places.

Hi, Randy!

That's even better than the thing I had on my mind:
I was thinking about the red cover covering the air intake duct.
You know: The thingy that has to be removed before the engine is to be spooled up...
I don't know its specific name - maybe: engine choker? :bump:

TigerPackLeader
December 16th, 2009, 04:17
Thanks Markus,

Now I get you. I had actually intended to develop the paint to include the "Leaping Milo" dog logo on the outside of each nacelle because the size and configuration of those two big hair dryers block view of the nose art from certain angles and we can't have that ! Nonetheless I'm grappling with too much dog or not enough, and now your suggestion which I also like and so adopted.

So how about now? Original nacelles or the new doggie ones? Either way the red intake covers are staying.

Release your inner critic!

Randy

...block view of the nose art from certain angles and we can't have that

Now that's a very good reason to keep those doggies on the nacelles!
I also like the the combination "dog at the cheatline's front end" to be repeated on the cowlings.

My inner critic?
Okay - just one little thing I can't clearly identify on your screenies:

Did you set the framelines of this (avionics?) access panel ("Lines" layer in the paint kit) above the dog logo? To me it seems like those lines currently are interrupted by the dog, but I think they had to be visible "through" the decal.

Cheers,
Markus.

TigerPackLeader
December 17th, 2009, 10:14
Your inner critic is right Markus. Actually there were other parts of the fuselage and tail similarly afflicted. I'll post the fixed shots later today.

You know, my favourite high school teacher used to say, "Works of art aren't finished, they're abandoned." I don't know that I'd characterize my work as "art", but I hear his voice every time I do a repaint.

TigerPackLeader
December 20th, 2009, 14:35
I'll post the fixed shots later today.

As if we needed it, yet again more proof that speaking your plans aloud is the best way to hear the Gods laugh.

Lines now appear where they should. Hopefully this screen shot will show that, although sunlight on that white fuselage is washing out the lines a bit. They're quite obvious from where I sit anyway. Here's the latest paint on what is, indeed, among the finest freeware addons I've experienced to date. Incredible visual impact in all views in exchange for very small impact on frame rates.

Wild Bill Kelso

Now that looks great, mate!

Shame on me - one thing I just discovered on your last screenie is the slightly "worn" prop blade. Looking close to it, you can imagine the amount of unpaved air strips this aircraft operates on.

I missed this nice detail before...

Cheers,
Markus.

TigerPackLeader
December 21st, 2009, 08:12
Thanks Markus. I wish I could take credit for the worn prop blade. The entire paint kit offers options for varying degrees of wear and tear, and dirt and grime, on the airframe. Another example of freeware that just impresses the hell out of me.

I've still got a few tweaks to make on textures for other parts of this bird before releasing it, but nearly there. Then it'll be abandoned ... I mean finished!

Compliments of the Season,
Randy

Agreed, especially when it comes to the AOP9! All of the major CBFS products will have a permanent place on my FS9 setup...particuarly the BAC 1-11, Comet, HS.748, and Trident. It's hard to believe they're freeware sometimes.

If not too late, here's a superb payware-quality-freeware-gem that seems to have been overlooked. If you like to fly something different try Deane Baunton's excellent Aerospace FU24-950 Series Fletcher. It's a 'topdresser' featuring exquisite external model, fully animated and detailed virtual cockpit, topdressing effects and paint schemes for Super Air, Wanganui Aero Work and Phoenix Aviation, and a great soundsuite (recip and turboprop) to boot.

You might wanna try some of the excellent freeware New Zealand sceneries at the same time. There's a ton of it to download both at flightsim.com and Avsim. New Zealand is only one of the most beautiful and exiting countries to fly in. Remarkable it hasn't been mentioned yet in this thread....

File name is fu24_v2.zip and fu24walt.zip for the turboprop, both at flightsim.com and Avsim. ( FS9 and FSX versions )

Here's a clip of the real Fletcher at work : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loy2n8s_l00

The Ilyushin Il-28/28U by Jan Moravec would seem to qualify as a gem. In addition to a pilots vc, the Il-28 has a nice navigators cockpit with a few instuments. The 28U has a forward cockpit with a main panel (also clickable). They each have a very basic rear gunner position, nice for rear views. Animations for the RATO, bomb bay etc. Fully ports to FSX.

Hello Hurricane 3, you might try the cowl flap lever on the right side of the throttle pop-up panel. Moving the lever fully to the left removes the cowling and gun covers. One click to the right sets them back in place.

A belated addition to the thread folks,

The Tupolev TU 144 ' Russian Concorde' is worth checking out, and I don't believe it's been mentioned yet.

The textures and effects are payware quality and there's loads of cockpit 'goodies':jump:

Get it on Flightsim [ tu144v2.zip]

Also, I agree the Waco Taperwings are a great package, but it's worth mentioning that the gauges don't show unless you do the following, at least not on my set-up they didn't.

COPY the .cab file in the Lockheed Vega panel folder in FS9 over to the main gauges folder , as the aircraft use these and FS9 doesn't seem to read them unless you do that.

What a great thread - I've down loaded some beauties and thanks to all:icon_lol:

I can't remember if I mentioned J.E.Narcizo's PA-18 Super Cub or not. Version 2 comes with regular and tundra tired version of the PA-18. There is an older float plane version as well, nice but not nearly as nice as the two wheeled versions in the version 3 package.

The PA18_v3.zip package will give you the latest version of J.E.'s wonderful plane. Very nice external modeling, reflective glass, very nice VC.

PA18fix.zip will correct a couple texture problems on both models and give you a corrected config file for the regular wheeled PA-18 to correct the tail wheel sinking into the ground.

PA18gau.zip will give you the missing gauges from the PA18_v3.zip package.

Then to make this sweet plane even better:

HPPA18PNL.zip will give both both models photo realistic 2D and VC panels and some really sharp XLM based gauges.

Cub9x.zip is a demo version of a PA-18 package...can't remember by who, and I haven't checked these planes out yet...they have those Demo Banners or some such....but I did grab the sound package out of this....very nice PA-18 sounds!

There is also a paint kit for the Version 3 planes....very nicely done by J.E.Narcizo himself.

All of these files can be found on Flightsim.com.

Thought of one more after I saw the last one.
It's a little dated but still nice.
The Valmet L-70 Vinka
You can get it over at Simviation in the FS2002 Props section.
http://www.simviation.com/fs2002props56.htm

Just make sure to give it some up trim on take off and then build up speed.
Once the airspeed is up, it flies very nice. Watch your load though. You will need to trim it for that too.

I found a GREAT freeware gem at Flightsim.com. It's a PT-19 Trainer with a VC and two paints, a Pre-WW2 blue and yellow (just like that Cox .049 control line plane I flew when I was kid) and a silver post war USAF trim. It flies like a trainer and has great visibility, especially if you edit out the snout in the main panel bitmap. Here's a pic and the link:

I may have a number of new skins done for the PT-19. I was working on a major update of the plane...new skins, new panel, tweaked flight dynamics. I lost the tweaks but I think I still have the paints...will check.

Just checked my external HD...and as luck would have it...I had made back ups of the tweaked PT-19 and the PT-26 by J. E. Nacizo. The 26 was basically the exact same plane as the 19, but with duel canopies. Let me check them out, made some final paint tweaks, and get them uploaded...should have uploaded them long ago...this darn AADD thing tends to get in the way or productivity.

Lol, you crack me up Obio!

Well, it's true. Having Adult Attention Deficient Disorder is a real pain in the butt. I get started on one plane, then I mozie off to another, then another, then another....I end up with a pile of projects 5 miles tall and none of them get done. Heck, I have projects dating back 2, maybe 3 years that have not gotten that last 10 minutes of work needed to finish them off.

Like right now....I am working on the paint template for Brian Gladden's Volpar (the tri-cycle conversion of the Beech 18)....I started working on it in January 2009, got side tracked by some other project....but I should be finishing off the Alpha Bobcat project, the PT-19 and PT-26 projects...all three of which are only minutes away from being ready to upload.

And it's just not sim stuff that suffers. A couple weeks ago, I was cleaning my 55 gallon fish tank. I had the gravel vacuumed to remove all the poo and food debris, and was letting the Python....basically a very expensive water hose for aquarium use....siphon out a lot of the old water to make room for clean, fresh water. AADD kicked in and I was off on some other tangent....my focus was brought back to the fish tank when I heard my fish flopping.....while I was off doing something else, every bit of water was sucked out of the tank and my poor fish were laying on the gravel. I had to kick things into over drive to get water back into the tank before they started dying. Luckily, none of my fish died or suffered any injuries...though a few of them have developed bladder control issues and pee themselves whenever they see me with the Python in my hand (that sounds a lot dirtier than it should for some reason).

OBIO

That'll be great! :jump: I really like this plane for doing touch & gos and flying low and slow. It has nice flight dynamics & visibility. I tweaked the .cfg file to add differential brakes as it doesn't have much rudder control on the ground, even with a blast of the prop. I really like it for flying around my home city.

I can sympathize with the ADD, I've had it all my life and now I've been diagnosed as having depression, which has also affected my short term memory. I walk into the kitchen and I can't remember what I wanted to do. I can concentrate on one thing at a time, but anymore than that and it all goes to hell. It sucks.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned J.E. Narcizo's nifty little Cessna C-150 Aerobat which includes a Texas Taildragger version of it and a handy little paint kit as well. Files are c150_v2.zip (http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=100260) and c150fix.zip (http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=100320) (repairs some texture issues) over at FlightSim.com (http://www.flightsim.com). Antonov An-2
(Russian nickname: kukuruznik; NATO code name: Colt) is an extremely durable, light, single-engine biplane which first flew in 1947. It is used as a light transport capable of carrying 14 passengers, and for parachute drops and agricultural work. Its extraordinary slow-flight capabilities make it supremely suited for short, unimproved fields, and some specialized variants have also been built for cold weather and other extreme environments.

I have been flying the AN 225 by Tom Ruth (look for Tom Ruth at Flightsim.com or maybe here, not sure) after seeing it in the movie 2012. This is the big six engine jet with twin fins. It is a great model with working flaps, spoilers, spoilerons (guess thats what you call those upward deflecting flaps that pop up with aileron control to help turn the plane,,the P 61 Blackwidow used them also) and other toys such as lots of opening hatches and nose. Almost forgot,,the wings flex and move.

If you download it also get the very nice panel at the same place.

The one in the movie was called an AN 500 for some reason,,maybe a make believe new model that had a rear drop down loader. Funny though that the airport was being demolished and the biggest plane on the tarmac didnt have a scratch :)

This is a bare metal paint job for it I am working on.

The Lockheed L188 Electra II certainly stands in the running as the crowning achievement of the age of the propeller-driven airliner. It was fast, powerful, quiet, comfortable. It seemed to be a natural feature of the sky. By J.R. Lucariny.

I do have a couple of issues with her though. I'm thinking about swapping out the panel for the one in the FS-KBT Orion until I find something better, and I'm also going to copy that plane's engine parameters. This civie version is modeled as a pure jet. While that works well for the Tu-114, I'm not as thrilled with it on this one. But other than that, the model is quite nice and she behaves well in the sky and on the ground.

I'm afraid that the only thing I can suggest then is to post a query in their support forum to see if they'll assist you with the issue.
It's an addicting aircraft once you get used to operating it, and I wish you the best of luck in getting it to work on your system. I'm sure it's pretty frustrating at this point.

More than just an airport scenery...
Both civilian flights and military use the airport, facilities split on a N-S axis along the main runway.
There is ground vehicle AI which tours the property, which has dozens of authentic buildings.
You can spend your time just following them, and marveling at the detail of the place.
There is also photoreal scenery available for the environs.

The (formerly payware) Iris F-15 Eagle and F-14 Tomcat are spectacular. Not all the freeware on their site is of the same high quality but the newer items are very good indeed, and and work well on my old system (compared to newer stuff that bogs it down). The night-lighting of the instruments on the F-15 is something to behold.

Hi,

Who can forget the still amazing Falcon 50 by Yannick Lavigne, Fred Banting, and Rob Young. Originally designed for FS2002 and updated for FS2004. Still a beauty after all these years. The FS2004 update is kinda hard to find but here's a good copy.

Note: If you install any FS2002 repaints to it, I recommend modifying the alpha channel, or extracting the alpha from a newer livery (such as the Swiss Air Force one) and placing it in the older liveries. It makes them look much nicer in FS2004!

Hi Guys - just found this by accident. Okay, it's the old International (VTBD), but in one word - OUTSTANDNG! I've seen less quality in payware sceneries:

"Welcome to Thai Flight Simulator! Here you will find "Don Muang 2010", the most updated ... yet the best Don Muang Internation Airport ever created for the world of Microsoft Flight Simulator (version 2004)!

Don Muang 2010 is absolutely a freeware for members. All you have to do is registering yourself to the Thai Flight Simulator (again, it's free of charge!), get back to this thread, download the scenery, install it, and enjoy a new glamorous look of Don Muang International Airport by Prasong. Don Muang Int'l Airport is probably the oldest airport (over 90 years!) in this country, and it is still use by various groups of aviators, both government and private sectors. So basically, this is how we keep the legend alive in MSFS 2004 http://www.thaiflight.com/mach/modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Even though it is a freeware scenery, the author is also very welcome if you "downloaders" will take part of being proud members of Thai Flight Simulator by donating to Thai Flight Simulator Funds. The funds is mainly used for paying the server fee (bandwidth, etc.). Donation can be made via bank accounts (well, if you are here in Thailand), or you can donate via PayPal! Our Thai Flight Simulator Funds' PayPal address is thaiflight@gmail.com."

http://www.thaiflight.com/mach/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=464

Believe me - the above screen does not do it justice...

Registration is required but it's free, simple (I can't read Thai!) and instant. And it's worth it !
(You will need the update in the 4shared link above). No noticable hit on framerates. And I do believe that's a golf course between the runways...

The site forum link (from where the above was copied):

Can't believe these haven't been mentioned yet; Steve's Hawker Seahawks are lovely renditions of a classic British jet, without doubt they qualify as 'Gems'. You can find them here, along with plenty of repaints:

http://www.flyingstations.com/sea-hawk.html

And I know it is new, but that doesn't mean it is not a gem; the Percival Provost was a type long overdue for a decent model, but Keith Paine has gone well past 'decent', his Provost is gorgeous. You can find it at Britsim.com, just do a search for 'Provost' & make sure you do a search for 'Leonides' as well; any of the soundsets by Gary Jones qualify as gems too, I think.

And while you are at Britsim, Dave Molyneux's ever expanding Auster family are worth investigating; I know they've been mentioned earlier in the thread, but I'm sure Dave must have released at least half a dozen new models since then. Hopefully the move to the new server will sort the download issues at Britsim, but they were always worth the effort.

And I know these models have been mentioned before, but I'm rediscovering them & learning to appreciate them anew; Dave Garwood's Hawker Hunters are superb, imo much better than the payware alternative, and Dave modelled more variants anyway. I'm only surprised that there weren't more repaints done of these models, but I may start to rectify that myself. :icon_lol: Available at all good outlets, but easiest to find at Britsim I think.

AndyG43

Thought this deserved a separate post; Phil's generosity (and the generosity of the designers) in continuing to release some of the older Alphasim products means what once was payware is becoming freeware; and with a little polishing some of these are definitely gems!! A good example of that is the F-4 Phantom's; with Nigel Richards providing us with a superlative J-79 set and Markus (Wild Bill Kelso) and others slapping on the virtual paint, we've got something every bit as good (if not better) than the Cloud9 Rhino (and a sight easier to install :icon_lol:).

All the freeware stuff can be found here.

http://www.easyfly.co.nz/Freeware/index.php

Nigel's soundset, and Markus, Smoothie and Duckie's repaints can all be found in the library here at the Outhouse.

I can't believe this one never came up! This is the Stearman that was used to prove that FS9's polygon limit wasn't really a limit. The author says it's "incomplete," but when I can take off half the panels and watch the linkages from the throttle and mix levers working all the way to the carb, I'd say it's pretty darn complete!

Thanks for the reminder! When it first came out, I didn't bother downloading because I knew my old machine couldn't handle it. Newer computer, thought I'd give it a try this time. WOW! I've never seen anything like this. A true rotating beacon? Operating circuit breakers? I usually follow a minimum 40fps limit in the VC on my aircraft, but I'll have to make an exception for this one to just sit in the cockpit and look around. I still get 30fps with everything maxed out, and it flies slow enough that I don't really notice the frame rate hit. Did anyone ever do a paint kit? Just amazing work. Thanks again, Tom, and a big thanks to Douglas Kallen.

FS2004 CYQR 2015 Regina Airport Scenery. Regina Airport can trace its history back to 1919, when Regina airport became the first registered "air harbour" in Canada. This FS2004 scenery of CYQR represents the airport as it was in spring of 2015. It includes detailed models of all major airport buildings as well as the major landmark buildings of the Regina City and those on the Runway approaches. By Gregory Putz.

I just looked through all these stunning pages of Freeware Gems.
It's sad that many of the download pages mentioned have disappeared, but most of the planes can be found else-ware, with some completely gone.

Wonderful & mostly forgotten stuff for our FS2004.

I was not going to put my best plane in all of FSX," only stating my opinion" is the great free SECTIONF8 F-86 Sabre.! Ihave 139 textures for it thanks to a good friend and the pilot has my face flying it, again thanks to my friend. Lots of black smoke and guns and all showing on my 43 inch TV screen hooked to my computer, it don't get much better then that! Lee

Since he passed away, they have been uploaded here for posterity, CFS2 models, that work in FS9 with the usual adjustments.

truly gems: all releases by Michel Migaud (oldliner52): http://fs9addons.over-blog.com/tag/avions/ and everything by Denis Fouchard at Restauravia (http://restauravia.fr/html/fs2004.html) (especially the Latecoere...) in addition to Restauravia's own various releases...

Why this one hasnt made it into this list I dont know:

Greg Putz is a genius.

CYWG Winnipeg 2020. CYWG is an international airport located in the city of Winnipeg, which is the capital of the Province of Manitoba, in the western part of Canada. This scenery provides an accurate depiction of CYWG for Flight Simulator FS2004. It includes the entire airport as well as many of the surrounding industrial and warehouse buildings. The scenery includes static aircraft, an extensive array of ground support equipment representative of types and operators at CYWG, vibrant night lighting and seasonal texture variations. CYWG Winnipeg 2020 is a very detailed scenery best run on a higher-end PC. To make the airport more flyable for a greater range of FS2004 users, CYWG Winnipeg comes packaged with options for three editions and ability to turn certain features on and off. By Gregory Putz.

CYWG Winnipeg 2020

Jack, that link does not work. The web address of the page you are looking at in flight.sim and some other flight sim sites, are not the actual addresses of the pages! :banghead:

They are "virtual" pages resulting from a search.... Copying them leads nowhere, as the page is only temporary, and disappears once you leave the page.

For the benefit of all posters, when trying to link to a page on flightsim, you need to use the following "template" address:

https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?do=search&fname=[put here the actual name of the zipped file]

So, the correct web page link for CYWG Winnipeg 2020 (cywg_winnipeg_2020.zip (https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?do=search&fname=cywg_winnipeg_2020.zip)) is:

https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?do=search&fname=cywg_winnipeg_2020.zip

P.S. your recommendation is spot on! It truly does look like a payware quality scenery! :adoration:

Here's one you may not realize that you need. :encouragement:

Head over to Virtavia's free downloads section and grab AlphaSim_really_old_freeware.zip .
Its a large download but if you've ever had to deal with an aircraft (military) that has a virtual cockpit but no 2D panel, there are a massive amount of Alphasim's old (mostly pre-virtual cockpit) aircraft in the zip. Each features Phil's old, but very nice, 2D panels.

The easiest way to try this out is with Virtavia/Alpha's H.P. Victor. Its ironic in a way, but the newer Victor is also available as freeware from Virtavia.
This is also an easy way to figure out how to "fine tune" panel.cfg files. :wiggle:

The newer Victor does not have a 2D panel. To add one, after you've installed the newer Victor and its gauges, dive into the "really old freeware" zip and find one of the old Victors. Just grab the Panel folder and maybe the gauges folder and drag them out to your desktop. Add the bitmaps to the newer Victor's panel folder then highlight and Copy all of the "gauge=XX" entries from the old panel.cfg and Paste them into the 2D part of the newer Panel.cfg file. At this point, you could add the old gauges to your main Gauges folder or transcribe the newer gauge names from the Virtual panel into your new 2D section of the CFG file. Just don't change the three groups of numbers after the old gauge names. And that's it, you've just added a 2D panel. :adoration:

The "really_old_freeware" zip can also be a source for AI aircraft. Just test the aircraft in FS9 before converting them into AI. Most of the aircraft in the zip (and there are hundreds of them) will work in FS9, but some won't.

I second that - the Sabre for FS9 has to be my favourite freeware gem ever, though I got mine from a PC Pilot CD (issue 59)
