Hey everybody, just about to leave for day two at Oshkosh. Yesterday the airshow got canceled due to weather. Didn't stay for the concert. Too much lightning in the area. I guess it did go on around 6:00.
The weather today looks good and tomorrow too. Hopefully I will get some better pictures today and get them posted soon.

Oh, by the way, In the first hour after getting in we saw a B-17, (5) P-51's, a P-40 and a P-38 all flying! Gotta love it!

Which P-38?

Bomber_12th
July 28th, 2009, 13:19
The P-38 in attendance is the Minnesota-based P-38L "Ruff Stuff". "Glacier Girl" was supposed to attend as well, but a 'mechanical issue' is preventing it, so says the rumors.

Owner of "Ruff Stuff", Ron Fagen, also has his newly restored P-40E in North African/Checkertail Clan markings, and from the photos I have seen it is beautifully accurate and authentic.

Just got back home from Oshkosh. Nice to live only 20mi away. Was there yesterday also. Best part is to see the aircraft flying up close. Today there were 3 P51s, giving rides to some lucky passengers, all morning long. Yesterday, just happen to be standing at the approach to rwy 18, to see the Lancaster come in low and quite fast overhead. Got to see the Airbus A380 make a few low and slow passes today, this thing is BIG. Ill be there tomorrow again.

OK guys, it's late, I'm tired and slightly sunburned but here's a few quick pics.
I only took 262 pictures today. :isadizzy:

I'm heading back down tomorrow morning. And probably Friday because the weather looks like it could be bad Saturday.

So, here's a few. More to come once I get some real sleep.

OK, I guess I can't upload pictures here. I says their not valid?
Hopefully this gets fixed soon. (Hope Ickie gets better soon)

Sorry guys.

Don't have them on an external source.
I'll just have to wait until they have everything back up and running here.
I guess I wasn't thinking or reading the crawler at the top of the page either.
The weather looks good for Friday. Thursday/Saturday could be a crap shoot. Just so it doesn't turn out like Monday!
HU: Friday's airshow is an all female acro show. BUt the warbirds extended show will feature Rich's Pyro. A must see. Bring on the "Wall of Fire"!

I've seen that sooooooooooooooo many times now lol...

The warbirds show and showcases are the only parts of the airshow that interest me anymore. Luckily there are a TON of other things to do. Aerobatics bore me to death.

This is my 39th year there. Still pretty cool when you feel the heat from it!
Weather looks good for Friday. That's when I'm heading back. Weather was great yesterday and Tuesday.

Biggest thing this year has to be the crowds. I haven't seen it this packed in years. Attendance way up this year. I heard the Prez, Tom P. saying that they were really surprised by how big the turn out has been.

Fridays airshow should be good, warbirds simulated attacks, wednesdays was kinda ho-hum if your into warbirds, watching a couple ford mustangs blow smoke and do spins was a waste. I realized the show was going to be lacking warbirds about the time the sappy musc started while that jet powered glider was flying. I saw 2 Mig29s or 31s parked across the runway across from the warbirds area. There was a mig 15 and 21 also. did you see the 109s? were supposed to be 2 but I didnt see them.

That was two F-18's done up like Mig's from the Top-Gun school. They came in about noon. The real Mig's that are there are none flying ones donated to EAA years ago. The Warbird show that day was dedicated to the T-28. 60 years old! Tomorrows show will be good. I don't think the 109 made it. Unless it comes in today or tomorrow. 4 P-40's, 20-25 Mustang's, 2 TBM's, 1 P-38, 4 B-25's, a B-17, a Lancaster, a Hurricane, a Spitfire, loads of trainers/liaison,... Well you get the idea. If half of them fly, it'll be a good show. Then add pyro and that spells FUN!

ON a side note, I liked the Ford Mustangs. Pretty fast and good drivers. Especially, when one came screaming up the taxi way and started spinning donuts right in front of me. Can't afford one of them either!

The Ed Russell Bf-109E had to cancel a while back, as it sustained damage last month, and the wing has yet to be completed and shipped back from Germany where the repair work is being done. The Buchon that was also supposed to be in attendance, is a static example, and was to be trucked up to Oshkosh for display only, which didn't happen.

So-far, there are actually 5 P-40's there (quite the turnout!), as I have been fortunate enough to receive photos of all of them. The five examples are the VWOC P-40N, Ron Fagen's P-40E (first public debut), CAF's P-40N, John Fallis' P-40N, and the Frasca's P-40E.

If anyone can, I would love to see some detail-photos of the newly-restored P-51D "Little Rebel"!

Ok the "migs", I saw the hornets flying around but the "migs" I saw parked sure didnt look like hornets, they had the blue cammo scheme and looked a lot bigger than hornets but it was from a distance so............

Hey John, Are there any Buchon's in the U.S. flying? I thought somebody has a stash somewhere just waiting to be taken back to flying status... BOB birds perhaps? I thought I remembered a post on WIX about it a long time ago...

Witt, I 'believe' the only Buchon within the US in flying condition, is Harold Kindsvater's (N109W), which typically stays in the southwest. It was for sale for quite a while on Courtesy, but it never sold - the asking price was like $1.2 million.

The person that has a whole stash of Buchons, which were featured in the movie Battle of Britain, is Connie Edwards. One of the 10 examples he has, is the two-seater conversion as well. He also for many years stabled a large number of ex-FAG Mustangs, which all but one have now gone to other owners and restored into some of the best examples of their type, because they had never undergone previous restorations which would have decreased their authenticity. In his hangars, there are still rows and piles of Mustang canopies, Merlin engines, wheels, engine mounts, and other parts.

Here is the link to the original thread, Witt, and the third page features the photos of numerous Buchon fuselages and wings in storage: http://warbirdinformationexchange.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11006&highlight=connie+edwards

Thanks to Connie Edwards, all of these aircraft are still around. It will be great to see them eventually restored.

Almost always sit in the same spot every year. Almost straight out from the "Red Barn" in the vintage section. It looks like it would be on the right end of the flight line but it actually is pretty close to center. I always head for my spot by Noon. Wait any longer and you'll never get front row. There's something to be said about not having anyone standing in front of you!

Interesting! I don't recall seeing anyone with a yellow shirt nearby though. Were you sitting just south of Aeroshell Square and north of the Red Bull Albatross?

I was really surprised to get a shot of Paul Sr. I was literally holding down the shutter button and bursting while moving the camera to him because I didn't see him coming. Luckily, I got 2 decent pictures. Times like that make me glad I got a DSLR... :isadizzy::mixedsmi:
