I downloaded the alphasim Tigercat to try it out.I set it up for rocket attack but it did not fire rockets so I looked at the DP file,it was set to category 5.When I changed it to category 4 it fired its rockets.I'm also going to change a few more things in the DP.

I downloaded the Alphasim Tigercat to try it out.I did a mission with rockets but they would not fire.It seems the category was set to 5 and when I changed it to 4 the rockets fired.I'm also doing more work on the DP

This is interesting. Why would a category change make a difference to the working of ordnance in a player aircraft?

I don't know why it works but it does.I've tried it on several aircraft that carry rockets and are set to category 5 and none will fire the rockets, set them to 4 and they do fire.I think category 5 makes them more like a level bomber and 4 makes them dive or glide bomb. The B26B by TR is set to 5 and won't fire rockets but when set to 4 will.Fighters will fire rockets also when set to category 1.

The Tigercat makes a nice attack aircraft when setup right,I have it attacking ships with bombs, rockets and a torpedo and it attacks infrastratures very nicely also. The one thing it needs is more speed as it should go over 400mph in level flight.

Its just the way that the sim was written Mike...can't change the code but we can work around it when we have multiple options:

Category=
1 - aircraft fighter
2 - aircraft level bomber (B-24, He-111)
3 - aircraft dive bomber (Stuka, Dauntless, Val)
4 - aircraft torpedo bomber (Avenger, TBF)
5 - aircraft tactical bomber (A-20, Ju-88)
6 - aircraft strike (Fw-190F2, A-4; 2-engine nightfighters?)
7 - aircraft civil
8 - aircraft recon (Storch)
9 - aircraft transport (C-47)
10 - aircraft fighter-bomber (any fighter equipped with bombs) or Dive Bombers

As a general rule, it seems that in WW2 not many tactical bombers on either side made use of HVAR weaps in strikes, but Allied torpedo bombers did quite a bit in the PTO after 1943. This may have been a factor in the programmers' minds. But cat6 and cat10 will also allow the use of missiles. I set my TCat to cat10 to allow the sim to recognize it as a fighter also. This gives the TCat AI the ability to perform as fighters when needed, like intercepts, sweeps, escorts and self-defense dogfighting after a bombing or torpedo strike.

I have one of my Tigercats set at 10 also for the same reason as Bearcat241.I've just been experimenting with things to see what works best for what I'm trying to do mission wise.

And all this time I thought that categories were only significant where AIs were concerned. Thanks for this information!!

Sorry I should have stated these fixes are for the AI not player aircraft.
