OK, I checked on the Dell website and my drivers are up to date for the M782 monitor. Is anyone out there running CFS3 at a higher screensize than 1280x1024? It just won't appear in my options in game.

1600x1200x32 and all is well;)
What is the m782 monitor? crt or lcd

It's CRT and dates from 2001. Only one set of drivers ever released. It can do higher res in 2d but NOT 3d. I could try to force things in Windows or Ati CC but I don't want to break it OR my vcard.

I think that cfs3 does not recognize your video card therefore limited resolutions.Would be nice to see an update for the latest hardware from MS for cfs3 though.

I thought that might be the case. If I disable validate device will it make a difference? I have used it on an older Radeon 9200 128m AGP with the same result, although I had the validate device selection disabled. Well, not a big deal now. The graphics are really quite nice so I better concentrate on smoothing framrates. Using Charlie's (?) scenery budgets to have fixed the 2d sprites effect. Maybe jacked a little too high. I even added a ring to see what happened. No real effect on FPS but it didn't help either. I liked to use 0.0005, '6 or '7 for the densities. I see stock looks like only 0.0003, 2 or 1. Any ideas here? I also like to use from 99 donw to 10 image quality figures but I don't see that much in the posted texture budgets either.
Oh yeah, WM, did the "17" figure apply to LOD or RingDim or something else?

Before you config go into cfs3configdatabase (root of cfs3) with notepad
look for safemode and change
Disable1600x1200 = true to false
PS
I think you can add unsuported hardware in this file.

Your problem could still be a refresh rate problem. Try the old refreshforce refresh fix. Shouldn't be needed for the latest drivers but worth a go.

1600x1200 here using Winding Man's super duper budgets for OFF which basically means it's running with sliders at 7 :)

Wow, now THIS sounds promising! :D Charlie, by "add unsupported hardware in this file" did you mean the config radio button option or actual code for an unsupported card? AFAIK the X700 was recognised or at least the ati vintage in the config program. Maybe I just added this info myself during setup? Can't remember exactly.
Polovski, sliders at 7? Cooool!
I'll try these tweaks and get back to you. I managed to break my airfield resolution settings somehow. I thik it was terrain max quality line in configoverridesdw.xml. I cranked it from 50 to 100 and I think that fouled it up. Who knows, one thing at a time. Thanks again. :engel016:

I don't know if I did the safemode fix correctly. Also, refreshlock and refreshforce did not change anything. They both ended up with 1280x1024 as usual.

And Yeee-Haaawww! It works! :greenbo: Thanks a billion for your help gentlemen. I can't believe I got 1600x1200 working. I think I will edit that to 1600x1280 to get the proportions right. Absolutely amazing! I can't thank you guys enough!
SWEET!

I am pretty sure it was the cfs3configdatabase.txt in the root directory. I searched for safemode, found the screensize entries and edited "disable1600x1200 = true" to FALSE and saved. ATI's new control center has refresh rate force options so other users may not need to download the freeware proggies. Just check your vc makers options. Oh yeah, I didn't try to edit the the size from 1600x1200 to 1600x1280 because I didn't want to ruin it. I just stretched the horizontal size using the monitor buttons. The monitor seems to distiguish between 2d and 3d in it's own software too. The buttons make different settings between 2d and 3d.

OK maybe later. I just busted my ati control center with the 5.6 driver update. Like WM says, a wonderful way to waste an evening.

Does your control pannel fails to responed?
Squiffy
June 9th, 2005, 23:38
Naw,
It just got deleted during the install process of the 5.6 driver. I grabbed the wrong package with NO catalyst control center. I liked the new software and wanted to keep it. By the way, I have the control center back now and can force 100hz refresh from either app. No problem since monitor can handle it. I was startign from a recent driver 5.5. Got lucky. I'll check the config addition tomorrow

Np, mine stoped responding when trying to access the advance pannel, cured it by clicking and chaging the Htz and Res Via the ATI Task Bar, cured my problem now Advanced pannel works fine........
Becarful with 100, keep an eye out on the temp of the monitor, we dont want it melting away.......

All the guys are busting nuts to get this done, but it takes so much time be patient NSS we want to play the final version as bad as you do ;)

Yes, patience is the key. Even after all the time I spent on airfieilds and psp, there are still problems with them. I notice all things that don't line up. Time is the only way to polish things properly.
More good news, the config edit worked! Ran fine in cfs2config, displayed in pull down menus. Appears the same way in the menus as last night. Thanks for the file Charlie. I'm so glad I didnt' have to type it :p
Man, the display is so clean! I am not sure where my tweaks are right now because I have used the specular edit in the past. The 361st Mustang looks great both the shiny aluminum and the olive green. Sun effects are great. Not too shiney. I think I had the low shine specular gloss edit. Not sure who made it. On this card and this screen size it is sweet. Maybe post a screenie? :173go1:

I see talk about track ir. I have asked for that for my birthday from my family. It's pricey so I don't expect much. The card is sweet enough. ;)

its worth it not only for flying, but fantastic for driving games, only got one GTR nice but mixed bag of thoughts...
still with trackir, taking some of the corners becomes easyish,
with trackir is does get you into the game, one problem i hope you dont suffer from athrits in the neck. still gives it a good work out:ernae:
