Here is a site that has a complete history:

http://fshistory.simflight.com/

You can even download a emulator and run some of the earlier versions. :icon_lol:

The scary thing is, it really was not that long ago. Of course, I'm getting old.

Why the frak did MS cut the aircraft editor?

If I had an "on the fly" flight dynamics editor like in FS4 I'd finally conquer the absolutely last FS design bastion I have absolutely no clue about!

Anyways, thanks for the nostalgia trip! FS4 was my ticket into the MS sims, although they only got really interesting with FS8 (autogen!).

bob 10 years from now i think FS will be more along the lines of holo or with more intreactive cockpit stuff and better performing looks um idk maybe more 1080P and 1200 suport but you cant get much better with out going to holo lol

Yeah man, just saw a tv screen the other day as thin as paper and was flapping in the wind, clear as anything I've ever seen, that will lead to wall screens then to holo I think, but I'm a dreamer. :)

There's a certain charm to those old sims. Guess it harks back to simpler times, all of what 15 years?!?
Imagine the framerates on today's systems....

...and still the sim ran better than computers could handle. So what's changed? We'll still be complaining about PC power in ten years (or rather the lack of it). :icon_lol:

That reminds me immediatly of Roy Chaffin's DC3 panel in FS2000. Been running on a PIII @450MHz with an Elsa 8MB graphics card back then. It took staggering 5 minutes to load initially and at least one minute to refresh when using the hatswitch.:isadizzy:

Are those addon trees or stock trees?

Pretty good model of the Cessna on those last two screenshots. Nicely modelled cowling with 5 polygons. ;)

We have indeed come a long ways..

Imagine where we will be in 10 years. Well, I hope far. Hopefully not backwards.

This is a cool thread!!:medals:

When I first started plane making, one was limited to 800 polys, 8 sided fuselages, and paper-thin tail surfaces. Retractable gear was just "visible or invisible" no ani's. And VC's? Never in our wildest dreams!

good lord piglet, when was that? now look at FSX, Unlimited ( i think.... ) Polys!! well, i know there are a ton of models that are round 500K polys and are detailed down to the nut and bolt.
