You're doing great Reggie! I never did get the hang of that one when it comes to fuel. I usually end up running out and having to make an emergency dead stick landing out in the middle of nowhere...

That's where flying the FSD Piaggio Avanti so much in the RTW comes in useful. You learn to fly that plane by Pounds Per Hour.

I actually took a little too much fuel on each of the legs between London and Rome and had to circle before landing to get down to MLW.

But the real pain is that the fuel tank labels in the Fuel and Payload screen does not match the labels in the flight engineer panel.

Since this aircraft will only use fuel from tank 1 or tank 2 on each side, remembering to move fuel between the center tanks to the tank 1 with the transfer switches is important. And to move fuel from tank 3 to tank 2. There is also a switch between using tank 1 and tank 2 on each side.

I think everyone has ended up with the engines shutting down due to no fuel in tank 1 or 2, and plenty of fuel in tank 3 or the center tanks.

After dings to the aircraft at Casablanca, our onboard mechanic Vincenzo determined that the damage could be repaired.

Airlines management made the decision to continue the race. A maintenance crew was flown to Lisbon in another Lancastrian, where we ferried I-AHBY. After some fantastic work, we are ready to resume the flight from Lisbon.

Pretty much overcast and could not see the ground through most of the flight. Got a bit of visibility as I descended into Dakar. Was a bit east of my intended landing runway when the airport be came visible, but was able to turn and make a straight in approach and landing.

EDIT - Pretty good flight - no real weather challenges. Had to keep an eye on winds and drift. When the NDB did not come up on time, I though I might be a little north, so altered my course 40 degrees south. The NDB popped up six minutes later dead ahead - so my navigation was pretty good. Cut the fuel a bit short - didn't get the winds I hoped for/ expected to carry my regular payload on this longest leg.

It was a good trip. Without the crash at Casablanca, I think it would have been competitive. Though my trip was 350 or so miles longer than others from Europe.

Can't fly Alitalia without touching Rome.

I carried more payload than most would have expected and managed the fuel very well. I have a 500 lb window between the MLW and the 2,000 lb reserve. I landed heavy twice, but by only 17 pounds once and 9.2 pounds the other time. Only two flights did I have less than 2,000 lbs fuel remaining.

I got real good at flying at high speed toward the airport through most of the descent and slowing the plane down in the last five miles.

Most of the trip was flown at 2,750 to 2,650 rpm on the probs and 9.7 to 10.0 inches of MP.

I put in a couple hundred pounds extra fuel for the last leg and flew at 11.0 in MP for a faster run, but used less fuel than I expected.
