Basically, is it worth the money? Seems quite a lot

I'd be interested to to know how the model differs from it's predecessor.

When it comes to jet fighters, I must confess, I preffer just to jump in and push the throttles.

Is it beyond what i'm after do you think?

Sorry, very subjective i know, but just really looking for 'ball park' answers.

I guess it may depend on how long Dino's is is going to take as well.

I enjoy it a lot, especially with my new rig. I don't think it would run too well on an older machine. The new photoreal paint makes it a gem imho. The only real weak point to me was the soundset. I found some good freeware sounds on avsim to replace the ones that came with it.

It isn't too difficult to fly. Not exactly load up and fly easy, but you don't have to read the manual for hours either.

So as with any other addon, if you use it, I think its worth the money. It's certainly a lot of fun zoom climbing to 40,000 feet. :running:

A quick read of the manual, press a few buttons and off you go 30 seconds tops. It is far easier than the Vulcan start up.

I like it because you can either start it up by the numbers, or if you are in a hurry you flip like 4 switches and hit control E and it is ready to go.

Second highest climb rate of all the planes i've built so far. 50000 feet in less than a minute and a haLF. and thats documented.. It's a pretty stable aircraft to fly. Very easy to plant 10 feet off the deck and hold it there.. I did a little demo vid of it that you can find at http://jftc.jadeisland.org.
It's not just a pretty face either ( I hate the way this community is all about looks.). i worked for three months solid on that fde, with a couple ex cat drivers feeding me data as well as my own test team. If you learn the plane, i can pretty much guarantee that if you get into a simulated furball with anything else up to a mig-29, your the one thats gonna go home smiling that night.. All you gotta do is pick a point in the sky, and she'll go there..

Is there a great looking freeware version due out soon?

I really cant answer that. Looks are secondary to me. Of more importance to me is the way it performs. No plane flys to the limits i want to push it. Not yet anyhow.. I seem to recall a couple other threads here about an F-14D model thats supposed to be pretty righteous. You might check those threads out..

Computer Pilot has a well balanced review of the IRIS Pro Series F-14 Tomcat this month... not bad for a four page spread I had absolutely no idea about..

Yes Nesu

can help you ;)

Personally, I think the Tomcats great. Pam spent ages on that FDE and it flies beautifully.
the external model is great to. It's highly detailed, and isn't too shiny. The plane was constantly being bombarded by brine due to it's role, so it would never get a real gloss finish unless it was tucked up in the shore.

The Virtual Cockpit is brilliant. 3-D gauges all over the show and they all work. Engine failures are modeled in aswell, if you decide not to set your intake ramps correctly.

I hope this isn't too biased, but I feel it's well worth it.

Hello Guys,
my question is: Isnīt there a little chance to get the ILS to work with aicarriers? Maybe if we copy some "needed" files from any other Aircraft, like Dinoīs F-14, to the IRIS F-14?

EDIT: After searching for a while i think i have found something which could work - if someone likes to know:

I could test this in about 6-7 hours...

Hello everyone,

I would like to ask you if someone knows how to get the IRIS f-14 burners visible while in the catapult or if this is not possible?

I don't think that the afterburner effect shows up when the launch bar is down.

From the manual located in your FSX main folder:

Also please note that due to the inability to successfully link the particle effect
afterburner to the visual model, when the Tomcat launch bar is extended
ready for carrier launch, the visual effect for the afterburner will be inhibited.

Also remember not to use burner for cat t/o's in the B/D model.

Yes I know that this is mentioned at the manual but at Dino's F-14D it works - so maybe someone got the skill to get this to work at the IRIS F-14 or is it impossible?.

And I know that the "B/D" did'nt need the afterburner but the "A" needed this...

I'm taking a wild guess here, but, the Iris model kneels when you drop the towbar. That would cause the angle of the fuselage to be pointing downward which would cause the afterburner effect to look "bent". As wonderful as it is, Dino's doesnt kneel.

Could anyone confirm that?

Thank you Odie.. Paul (Delta558 ) and I did our best.. I love my kitten.. Love Dino's too..

@Sepp666
We had the same issue with the F-20 Agile.. David had to create 3D afterburners which never quite looked right, but at least they moved with the nozzle.

OK. It's very sad that it won't work...

I'm very agog what Aerosoft will do with their Tomcat in that way...:ques:

I think IRIS F-14 is the best F-14 so far, and number 1 in playing with carrier

Here my first paints textures working in for this model:

3D aircraft and effects modeling has come a very long way since the F-20 Agile.. These modelers these days are extremely sharp and talented, but unlike the days when an effect such as afterburners were just more files tacked onto a model, todays afterburners are part of the model itself so can move with the model unlike they ever did before.. Yeahh, its pretty impressive..
Look at the bright side though, your only on a cat for a few seconds, and you need to be thinking about that slingshot off the end of the ship.. By the time your in the air, the afterburners are on and your heading home to the sky..

Hey Hanimichal very nice Repaint of VF-1 Wolfpack, will you release this for all?

Any Chance to get a repaint of that Cat(BuNo 160661) from VF-84 in the 90's?

Regards Sepp

@warchild you are right, it's only a little detail that is not essential but it would be nice to have (for me).
