Hi Guys,

It looks like our flight is going to be Sunday, June 28th at 1900 Zulu. That's 3 PM eastern and 2 PM central. Everyone should report an hour early so we can start the flight on time and fix any problems if people have them.

Here's the link to Teamspeak. http://teamspeak.netfire.com/releases/ts2_client_rc2_2032.exe

We will be using it for communication. It is NECESSARY for the flight. The TS server IP we will be using is 64.46.38.86:8767. Between now and the time of the flight, please connect to the server just to make sure you can connect without any problems. It is unlikely anyone will be around, but there could be someone if you try in the evening.

As far as a gamespy server is concerned, I emailed a few server owners and asked if they were interested in hosting our event. However, I've not got a response from any of the servers I have tried at. I'm not exactly sure what server we can use. If any of you guys know of a server we can use, PLEASE contact me via PM ASAP.

I've finished the flight plan. It is a D-Day memorial flight. Though it may not be historically accurate, it is a good approximation of where some real P-51's flew. It should be around 2 hours or slightly more with a bigger group. If you've got Ultimate Terrain Europe and some sort of terrain mesh, you will see quite a few unique things.

Could a moderator please sticky this thread? This is where all future information regarding the flight will be, so please watch this space.

Thanks everyone!!! This will be a blast! :ernae:

Oh, one last thing. Could everyone PLEASE post the paint they plan on using? A link to the download at SOH would be great as well as the name. I'd like to keep the number of Snooks to a minimum. :icon_lol:

Detroit Miss

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&FileType=fsx&page=downloads&Category=paints&FileUploadName=&ammm=25&pap=2

This repaint is for the A2A Simulations Inc. World War II Fighters P-51D Mustang for FSX. The textures will not work in FS9. It represents the P-51D flown by Lt. Urban L. 'Ben' Drew when he was assigned to the 375th Fighter Squadron, 361st Fighter Group at Little Walden, Essex, UK in 1944. On October 7th, 1944 Lt. Urban shot down two German Me 262's jets while flying Detroit Miss. His gun camera was jammed during the incident but his commanding officer gave him credit for the kills. 40 Years later a former German Me 262 pilot confirmed the incident. Repaint by Barry Vandenakker based on the new high resolution paintkit and textures by A2A Simulations Inc.

Lt. Urban shot down two German Me 262's jets in one day!!!! That is the kind of thing that wins a war. :ernae:

Cheers for hosting this KK:ernae:
LOL I wish I could actually host it. My DSL would fail after 5 people joined my server. We still need to find somewhere to host our multiplayer event.

I'm happy to have been able to get it together though. It is going to be a LOT of fun. Hopefully this won't be a one time thing.

If anyone has any ideas for a server, PLEASEEE contact me ASAP.

I'd probably fly "Upupa Epops" done by John Terrell. It is somewhere here in the library.

kind regards,

Meso

Are there any other repaints from this squadron like Double trouble two or something else with that orange/black checker nose
That's where I'm looking for :)

Details on the flight plan will be posted on saturday evening sometime. Everyone interested, please keep posted. As for addons, I highly recommend UTX Europe and some addon terrain mesh for the UK.

brand new, still on it's delivery flight from Bundaberg to Cloncurry to Darwin to Bali to Batavia...
Unfortunately, I discovered I couldn't switch between tanks, so it's wreckage is now somewhere near YBTR...

Sorry guys, I won't be able to make it I think.
My bird of choice would have been Sebastian Jr:

Here's our flightplan.

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd141/whippetstorm/flightplan.jpg

It is approximately one of the routes taken by allied forces on D-Day. I decided to pick a larger civilian airport for this instead of an airbase because of parking. This isn't meant to be historically accurate either. It is mostly a memorial flight. It should be around two hours total.

The altitudes you see are also not what we are gonna do. The only thing that anyone should be worried about is the waypoints. Once we get to LHO, we will be following the beaches of Normandy to the west and then northwest and land at Maupertus.

More details like airspeed and altitude will be available when the flight starts.

Remember, try to show up an hour early at 1800 Zulu, 1 PM central, 2 PM eastern. The flight will start an hour later.

Join up on Teamspeak with your SOH name. The IP is 64.46.38.86:8767. Details about the gamespy server will be given once you're on there.

I hope we get some decent turnout! This should be a really fun flight and hopefully a good experience for the SOH community.

Well here's the final bump.

I'll be on TS starting now. Those who want to chat and maybe fly a little ahead of time are welcome to join. Flight starts in 2 hours. I urge anyone available to join. It should be a lot of fun.

Hope to see you guys there!

Huge thanks to those pilots who joined the flight! It was a lot of fun, however only one of us made it to the destination. The pics show what happened to me... :173go1:

Great flight.....lots of firsts for me. My first multiplayer flight, my first time using Teamspeak, my first attempt at formation flying.

I made a point of flying all the way without using autopilot. It was hard work, so my hat goes off to the flyers during WW2 who not only had to fly this way, handle the comms and fly in formation, but also had to keep an eye out for the enemy, and fight for their lives when they were encountered.

Well, it seems I've recorded a video by mistake :mixedsmi: (damn those key assignments in Fraps) so all those screenshots I thought I was taking I was actually turning the video recorder on and off. I'll try to post the highlights later...

Maybe this could be an annual event?

Cool video!!!

I'm kind of glad you didn't show me ditching into the water.

As for this being a yearly event, I'd like to have these sort of flights every month. We need more people though. We sure had a lot of people initially interested. It is a shame so few actually showed up. :173go1:

Maybe next time... :engel016:

Well, now that I have a decent net connection (at long last!)thought I would finally post a few kodaks of this flight I shot, before the wife forced me to take her to dinner:jump:
In view of the poll recently, I hope it will inspire a few more to play online with the SOH crew-this was my first online try,and a lot of fun it was too.

I hope to get a L-39 event planned shortly. Though It will be more difficult for me to do because school starts again in a couple weeks. :mixedsmi:
