View Full Version : Graphic Card Suggestions?

I have a woefully inadequate system that crashes with this program or CFS.
The roots of my problem are a 300 watt power supply (will replace w/500-750 watt), and the integrated graphics of my Pentium 4 - 3.0 ghz board.
Any suggestions for a card for maximum results without overdoing it for my processor and wallet?

Thanks!

It depends a bit on what your mobo will take, but I imagine you machine will also take an AGP graphics card, right?

For instance an Nvidia FX6200 would go very well with most P4 systems. You can get that card nowadays new (outlet) very very cheap and with some extra ram it would do your system a world of good.

Add a good P/S of about 400-500 W and you'll be a happy camper for about 100€ (where I live)

Hope this helps!

Thanks. I should have specified that I have a PCI Express slot open...

Is the slot PCI-E 8x or 16x? The slower slot will be a bottleneck with newer cards.

The board says "PCI Express 1x16 Card"

My Zotac factory overclocked 8800GT has been fantastic with Il2:1946.

That is a 2x16 card (not sure what that means). Can it work with my 1x16 slot? (Sorry, not hardware savvy).

i think what that means is that its a PCI-E 2.0 slot. my mb has a 1.0 slot but works fine with it.

Yes, a 2.0 card will work in a 1.0 slot and you probably won't see any decrease in performance when using only one card. The 2.0 slot is more important (faster) for dual card (SLI) computers.

Thanks for the help on this issue. I have no money, so I updated my graphics driver today and reinstalled IL2S1946. With fingers crossed, no system crashes yet! But I'm sure I'll need to keep things real simple.

I just got a "0x00000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" blue screen. And I don't have a dime to spare, so I guess this will have to wait until times get better.
Thanks though...
