Well - I bought it today - available in the US at gogamer.com and apparently in Canada as well through another retailer associated with 777 studios - the distributor for the US

39.95 + tax and free shipping - the sim is due on June 8 - thats just over a week away.

if you like the neoqb Fokker Dr1 in FSX you might want to look at their first combat flight sim - I hope my current rig can run it well enough,:kilroy: it should from what I see.

I have been waiting for this, been watching YouTube videos from the beta testers. The MP looks cool. The graphics looks sweet too. I think this game can use Nvidia PhysX so when explosions and planes fall apart, it has a more realistic/life-like effect using hardware acceleration.

I have been waiting for this like I waited for Il2 to be released - got that demo the day it was out and will never forget the initial wow factor of that now epic combat flight sim.

this is even better - as it recreates aerial dogfighting in its infancy and at its essence.

rickety, unreliable airframes engines and weapons, struggling at the ragged fringe of controlled flight even as tactics were being developed by a few desperate pilots who were lucky to make it through their first sortie let alone garner any kind of career -

I'm pumped to see where neoqb has gotten it right as well as to see where there might be room for improvement and how quickly they deal with the 'bugs' or quirks of this initial release.

Just like with Olegs epic sim - we get to start all over again, and in the First War in the sky...schweet :applause:

Can't wait! Be careful with GoGamer, I preordered my Saitek Switch Panel from them and received it a month and a half after It was released.. I even cancelled my order with them because I ended up getting it from PCAVIATOR.. After several emails over a course of about 2 weeks I managed to get a reply that stated my order had already shipped and I wasn't able to cancel it... It still didn't show for another 2 1/2 weeks!

I've ordered a couple of things from them - including FSX deluxe and got great service - but then they are just up the coast from me.

I hope to get a pull from the first shipment they get - but if not, I'll wait...I still have FSX and Il2 '46 until then - besides, neoqb and 777 have both indicated there might be an RoF demo released 'soon'

That is wierd. I have ALWAYS had superlative customer service with Gogamer, dare I even say better than every other online place I have ordered from. Strange.

Having said that, I don't preorder anything. Ever. lol

so you know ... you have to activate it online every time you load the sim before you can do anything :monkies:

This looks pretty neat. I long for the days I spent flying Cfs2 online 24/7. I liked IL2, but I just got easily frustrated with all of the landing and taking off. Sadly until I get off of the satellite internet connection my latency won't be good enough for online game play, which really stinks as I’ve never been much of a single player person, but I've got my eye on this.

Is EVE and other popular online games the same way?

because of piracy - the game developers have to do something dont they?

get angry about piracy if you want.

anything is better than starforce yes?

so they want to ping you when you startup RoF - whats wrong with that?
I dont know anyone that plays PC games whilst disconnected from the internet...in exchange you are kept abreast of any updates and you can select a setting whereby neoqb can track your offline stats from what I read...or not...sorta like Steam

the pluses outweigh the drawbacks from my view...anyways its worth a look and if any of that could possibly make RoF unplayable I'll eat my hat.

there online games, i've never played them so thats all i know :engel016:

yes they do ... but i think they've done the wrong thing, personaly i'm a big fan of the way steam does things, you download your games, can play them online but most importantly .. if your internet dies or you have down time between switching providers, you have an offline mode which still means you able to play your games ... with ROF ... theres no pure offline option, so no internet = no game at all

Just my opion formed on stuff i've read :engel016:

Ill probably be sticking to Over Flanders Field Phase 3 for its superior single player/campaign modes. But as far as multiplayer WWI action, RoF looks great (other than being entirely reliant upon their server's health). Do post some screens when it arrives!

Though I've always had pretty good experiences with GoGamer, the press release also mentions Amazon will have it when it ships later in June.

Aw, heck, I'll just repost the PR, since it has some info you guys will probably find interesting:

<table style="width: 100%; margin-bottom: 6px;" border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" width="100%"> <tbody> <tr> <td>CompuExpert announced today that it will be the exclusive North American distributor for the PC flight-simulation Rise of Flight: The First Great Air War, developed by Russian developer neoqb and published by 777 Studios. Rise of Flight will be released on June 17, 2009, and will be available at traditional retail outlets as well as major online game retailers including GoGamer.com and Amazon.

Rise of Flight is the eagerly anticipated World War I PC flight-simulation title from Moscow-based developer neoqb. The flight simulator, set in the Western Front in 1917, was built on the newly developed Digital Nature engine. More than 125,000 square kilometers of the territory have been redrawn from 20th Century maps.Rise of Flight allows virtual pilots to fly the famous Spad XIII and deadly Fokker D.VII biplanes in exciting dogfight battles. Featuring advanced physics, flight and damage models, Rise of Flight promises a realistic, challenging and fun experience for simulation fans of all stripes and skill levels. Rise of Flight also implements full 6 DOF TrackIR support and is compatible with the TripleHead2Go multi-monitor system from Matrox.

Rise of Flight includes a Training Campaign and Single Player missions so players can hone their aerial combat skills. Once they are ready, flyers can embark on a Pilot Career that includes six stages from lieutenant to colonel, and begin one of several campaigns with squadrons for the French, British, German or American air forces. Throughout their careers, players can win awards, commendations and promotions for successfully completing their missions.

Mission types in Rise of Flight include fighter sweeps, bomber escort, bomber interception, balloon attack and ground attack. If they wish, players can use the powerful Mission Builder to create custom scenarios of their own and share them with their friends.

Flight-sim enthusiasts can also play with their friends over the Internet and wage their own virtual air wars against rival online squadrons. Even the greatest of Aces in World War I had a wingman, and Rise of Flight multiplayer action focuses on cooperative teamwork and completion of mission goals. Whichever way you choose to play Rise of Flight, it will surely thrill and excite any simulation fan.

Planned additions to the Rise of Flight experience in the coming months include more flyable aircraft, scenery, objects and features. Hurry! Grab your goggles, leather helmet and silk scarf. Enemy planes are approaching!

I really hope this game (1) rocks, and (2) somehow manages to sell insanely well, so that it sparks more sims.

PLEASE DO NOT STEAL THIS GAME. PLEASE. The flight simulator market is essentially dead, given how few sims are in development at this point. We really need sim developers to do well so that (1) they'll do more sims, and (2) others will consider reentering the market.

so the release date has been pushed back a little...

funny how so many people got the impression that it was an online game only and had no single player mode at all (or that it was tacked on as an afterthought) when the first three paragraphs in every press release I've seen are all about single player.

I also hope it sells well and that their method of authenticity verification will reduce the number of crack-clowns and hacks

I heard in a forum or YouTube video from a Beta tester that there will be no updates you have to worry about because once your logged in the game weather single or MP you are already accessing there database to get updates without having to do so manually. Also helps with piracy and I agree I would love to see more sim developers.

I for one miss Jane's Combate Simulators, they were the best in the 90's when I started simming MSFS in 98.

IL2 is also claimed to be a strong SP sim. Until I see otherwise, any claim to a comprehensive SP/campaign mode seems like hype. Hope I'm wrong of course though, but given that you only get 3 planes or such stock and have to buy more additionally, the SP mode looks kind of limited unless youre willing to shell out more cash. And as the updates go, you may not notice them being installed, but that means you wont be able to choose which updates to have or not. Guess we shall see in a bit though how wrong I am :)

May 30th, 2009, 12:51
how much additional cash have you shelled out for FSX???

if you are like me its in the hundreds of dollars...

I don't mind buying addons at all - I'm already doing it and have done it for every flight sim title I've ever owned.

I don't get it why every time a new sim comes along its like everyone was just born

Im just afraid they'll want 15-20 dollars per plane. I buy an addon for FSX because I want it, but in a combat sim, having to get additional planes (when you start with just a couple; and no stock Albatroses?) seems like a necessity to me... But I wont speculate on RoF anymore as it's not that far off from US release. Just need some screenshots :)

It's certainly taken the developers a long time to get things to this stage. I was still out in Denver, trying to recover from the demise of Knights Over Europe when screen shots for this game first started to come out. That was over 3 years ago. Fortunately for the developers, the technology for the computers has improved in that time and more people should have a good time flying it instead of having a slide show.

Some of my online friends from KOE days got to know the developers rather well and unlike the studio I worked at, the developers actually listened to and got input from the WW1 aviation community. What a concept. Hopefully ROF will succeed where we didn't.

I just got it - thanks gogamer and Jason of the 777 studios !

and the DR1 IS included along with a few other surprises not mentioned in the press release...

heywooood
May 31st, 2009, 11:38
well - thats what I would like to say the day I get it...

well why the hell would they use the Dr1 as a marketing ploy in FSX if they weren't going to have it in the original release?!

and what about all those WIPs featuring the Nieuport 17 and 28 and the Alby and this Dr1

not that I care either way - included or released for purchase shortly after I will get them all...but the Dr1 really needs to be in the box on day one, no?

rwmarth
May 31st, 2009, 18:35
Well my sources (the ever reliable internet!) tell me that a Spad XII, Fokker DVII, and the Fokker Dreidekker are the release planes. For those in RUssia, the Nieuport 17(?) was included with the release but is an addon for others.

Those are some pretty aggressive recommended specs. I'll be interested to hear reports from users of slightly weaker systems than that when it's finally released.
