Last shot - 66 inches of manifold pressure? It's gonna blow!! :kilroy:

No kidding - you can effectively take off in a Mustang with the Manifold Pressure at an economical 40-45 inches, and climb/cruise at 29-30. Very nice shots however! ;)

:applause:Yeah - I love the last shot. I like screen shots taken from the pilot's perspective.

I just recently learned the phrase "Balls to the wall" is a hold over from WWII meaning power lever balls to the firewall.

Considering that stang model is years and years old from old, old fs2004 days,... well thats saying somthing when it still competes on a level playing field with our own and competitors models :jump:.

WOPIII we will try to take to a whole new level.

A chap on our forums who goes by the callsign 'nath' has been banging out repaints of the B-17. See this thread;

A couple of naths screenies;

They dont do the paints justice though, and read through the thread and B-17 forum to get the history of the aircraft which is often uncovered as he paints them. :ernae:

welll, thats a d model so i dont know about the packards MP, but i know that for the allisons in the P-40s and early p-51s, Allison sent out a memorandum to the Brits flying the 40s in africa that they would approve 67 inches of mp since tests showed the engine could handle it.. that merlin was a big packard engine, so my guess is that if the p-40 could handle it, then, if for no other reason than to be better, the merlin could handle it.. I may be incorrect of course..

well to go into this would require pages of explanation but its down to Detonation

my car has an compression ratio of 10.25:1 and can run on 87 octane gas with out knocking. but its gets this from getting peek CR at around 5,000 RPMS where its pistons are moving so fast the fuel has much less time to ignite. my cylinder heads are also designed to stave off Detonation also. this means it can have an high CR. and i have better spark timing also witch helps (naturally aspirated)

now the RR Merlin has heads that are from what i have seen are not to good at holding off detination and its slow Rev of 3000 Max dosent help much to and its spark timing is not as percise as my LS1s so in an nut shell the heads on the Allison may have been better and staved off the detonation then the RRs also what fuel were they running in tests

the often misconception of the germans DB 601, 605 engines being poor and fule is so false its funny they may have had poor boost pressures
there heads are better performing then most haveing hemi combustion chambers allowed from high CRs then the brits.

when i say better heads im talking about how the Combustion chamber moves the fuel around in it. and you need to figure in heat from the supercharger to

and yes the Merlin will blow up running 66 man and 3000 RPMS if the oil get to hot and turns into vaper and or the coolant get to hot and the block starts to distort, or just simply it gives into the rotainal stresses. i dought it would be knocking but it is probalt close and if it gets hot it will start to though.
