I'm trying to convert the stock FS 2004 stock de Havilland Comet to CFS2. Everything went fine up to the "Fly Now." I got the message "Failed to startup the flight model. de Havilland Comet Grosvernor House." What I do wrong? :d

CFS2 doesn't like the FS flight model.. Replace it with one from a similar jet airliner made for CFS2.

I thought about the DH88 after i replied but you guys beat me to the punch. I'll bet the performance with a jet airfile would be something to behold tho:costumes:.

Now you got me tempted to try, just to see how fast it would fly. I decided to add all my vintage 2004 ac to my CFS2 installs. One, they are interesting ac in their own right and two, some of the 2004 add ons alias back to some of their sound files. I noticed a lot seem to reference the Vega. Could the DH.88 be considered a predecessor of the Mosquito?

DH88,Made by De-Havilland,Made for speed,Lightweight twin,2 crew.sounds similar does it not.

Both made of wood, but the 88 was more like a "traditional" pre war DH.The real test case for the Mosquito was the DH Albatross airliner, which had a moulded spruce and balsa fuselage, like the Mossie.

Interesting. I would never have believed that the Mosquito started of as a design based on the Albatross, but Wickipedia has never lied to me before (:costumes:) I need confirmation on a few other things. 1. some ac just will not convert -period 2. Swapping air files is an art, not a science, and 3. You can get air files from just about any of the Sims previous to FS 2004 and even then, sometimes 2004 Air files will work. One of the great attractions of CFS2 has always been the great variety it offers, and once you start converting, it at least triples the number of available aircraft. I wish I had started sooner.

1: Some aircraft from FS2004 simply will not convert to CFS2. I don't know how many FS2004 planes I have attempted to convert that failed. And these have not been all newer aircraft....I have had newer FS2004 and older FS2004 aircraft fail to convert. And the same is true for FS2002 and FS2000.

2 and 3: Swapping air files is a combination of art, science and luck. I have swapped an airfile from a CFS2 plane into a converted FS2004 plane of the same kind...say Mig-15 to Mig-15 for example...and the converted plane still refuses to fly. Sometimes the FS2004 config file needs swapped out as well. Have had some FS2002 and FS2004 air and config files that worked flawlessly in CFS2.

Converting planes from FS2002 and FS2004 is a fast way to increase the variety of planes available in CFS2....but not always the best way. Some FS2002 and FS2004 planes simply are not very usable in CFS2 due to low frame rates.....they are really only good for Free Flight use. The better way to increase the variety of aircraft available in CFS2 is to learn Gmax or FSDS and begin making CFS2 native aircraft. This is my goal once things in my life settle down to a more normal level of chaos.

And, did you get my PM....I am more than willing to help you convert the dh88?
