Just to clarify, there are two items currently available.

The T-6/A Texan II SP2 Update - This is FREE and covers flight model update, gauge update with improved EADI, EHSI and working NACWS and a full manual.

The T-6/A Texan II Advanced - This is NOT free, however it is available at a discounted price for those customers who have already purchased the T-6/A Texan II. It includes the following;

- New and significantly improved flight model (included as part of SP2).
- New Gauges with more commonality between submodes on the EHSI and EADI, along with working NACWS in FSX (included as part of SP2).
- Updated Soundpack from Turbine Sound Studios.
- New Virtual Cockpit Textures and brand new backlighting techniques for more a immersive night flight experience.
- Due to popular demand, we have added a fictional autopilot feature to the rear seat with HDG, NAV and ALT hold functions.
- New texture set with improved bump maps, specular maps and diffuse maps across all liveries.
- Addition of four new texture schemes, USAF Academy, USN Multiplayer, VX-20 Delivery aircraft and 2010 TAW-6 Display schemes.
- Addition of following advanced systems;

- Realistic Engine. If you run the engine in excess of 93% Torque for more than 3 minutes, the engine becomes damaged and drops in power output. Continued running at greater than 60% torque for more than 90 seconds will then result in an engine failure and onboard fire.
- Perishable Crew. Opening the cockpit in flight is bad in real life, in this version, the crew will die and the aircraft will spiral out of control if you do stupid things!
- Ejection Seat. Pull the handle to pop out!
- Simulated G-Force effects. With the OBOGS system on, the oxygen mask will force air in through the mask and you will audibly hear the pilot breathing hard under high G conditions.

- More hidden objects linked to flight model entries! Now the pilot and instructor can be removed or inserted by adjusting the payload entries in the FSX payload manager screen. The Hellenic Air Force T-6/A Texan II NTA can also add or remove the fuel tanks by adjusting the required payload entries allowing for a more accurate flight model.

- A full PDF Pilot Handbook.

Essentially, as I've put in the IRIS Forums;

Bottom line is, if you like your T-6 but want it to work as we'd originally envisioned, get the SP2 update as it's free.

If you like your T-6 but want all the bells and whistles along with the technical improvements we've made from the two years of further development experience, get the Advanced version for a discount if you've bought the T-6/A Texan II previously!

Hope that clears everything up...

Smudge, I have been to the Texan II page and understand all of what you have written above. As for now all I am interested in is the SP2 update but call me stupid, I can't find where to download it. I have check my account, the store etc but no link to download just the update for SP2.

Tom,

Go to the IRIS Store, and you'll see a new product for .99 cents labelled SP2 Update. Open that product page and it'll have instructions on how to obtain it.

Timmy, the SP2 update is strictly IRIS store only. Our other vendors will get the new Advanced product, but the SP2 update will only be able to be obtained via our storefront.

In saying that, it doesn't cost anything apart from 5 minutes to register if you've not already done so.

I have to congratulate Iris on this update, it's just brilliant, the way she handles is very convincing and a lot of fun, just doing TNGs is very rewarding let alone pushing the envelope elsewhere. :ernae: :medals:

That shark paint is awesome. Not my tyupe of plane, but tempting just for that paint. Blue and white is my favorite scheme, and with the shark art its quite striking.

How long should it take to register?

I purchased the Texan from SimMarket when it first came out in 2007. I registered for the Iris forums back then, but my logon no longer works. When I try to register for the store I get to the point where I need to enter an activation code (which is supposed to be sent "instantly") but I have not received any email. I checked the spam filter but nothing is being blocked.

I appreciate Iris providing a free update, but it seems very difficult to access.

Yes I have, but was not sent via email. I had to go to IRIS website. Also the Advance is not a Free update, only thing that is free for this bird is the SP2 Update. So if you are looking for the Advanced update you will have to go to IRIS and buy the update. I'm sure the vendor you bought yours from will have the SP2 update (free) on your account from that site you bought at, with the option to buy the Advanced with the proof of purchase of the original software.

How is the flight model different, and how does the aircraft handle now? I want to know before I spend the dough. I can't remember where I got the original from, and I'll probably want the new textures. my main problem with this aircraft was the horrid flight model, and I'm excited that it's different but don't want to get burned.

The aircraft has always handled pretty well for me but needed work in areas, I do like to think now it is more spot on and I do enjoy flying it more (flaps still fell exaggerated a little and always have for me). But the Advance covers the systems more, so Autopilot I enjoy now and another biggie was more functionality to the Gauges (EHSI/EADI) so that helps add to the realism and learning. And simming sound goes a long way the TSS sound is nice even thought the turbo prop always sounded nice. The manual is nice too and has a lot on info in that makes for a good second time around with this bird.

It you have the Texan already without the Advance or SP2 check it out, the free SP2 Update to see if you like those changes. With the free you get flight model update, gauge update with improved EADI, EHSI and working NACWS and a full manual (You will feel the difference)... So just about everything I said above. If you like that a want a little more (like TSS or New texture set with improved bump maps, specular maps and diffuse maps across all liveries you can go for the Advanced. I went right at the Advanced since I have always liked this aircraft and always fun to fly.

I'd like to see some large shots of the advanced aircraft, I have always quite fancied the package but I never bought it as I thought the texture work wouldn't my cup of tea. New bump mapping sounds good too.

No, that's a common misconception. This aircraft is a domestically produced and licensed version of a pilatus, the PC-9. The Embraer Tucano is totally different.

I'm mainly wanting to know if the aircraft flies clean now. Before, it was pretty fake and built lots of AOA.

Where do you get the update? I want the Air Force Academy texture and nice cockpit lighting.
