i am just about to uninstall so i can add Acceleration...so i am testing some stuff before the change....

before i do, i will test these roads out and take some pics.... as i am curious too.

I have UT installed but i am still curious about these...

I wonder what would happen if you shortend them on height, made them extra wide, and scaled them so that they have incredible detail?

I was (oddly) thinking about doing this lastnight off the fly and didnt... but with FS9.

Aren't FS9's terrain textures (roads included) limited to 4.8m/px, Bill?

In general, I find that the road texture resolutions need to be roughly equivalent to that of the surrounding terrain, or you get that decal look, like they're pasted on. The length vs. width of line textures is designed primarily to allow some variation in look along the length, thus avoiding obvious repetition. You could make 'em square, but you'd see much more patterning.

The same person did a replacement set of railroad textures as well. Just noticed it at Flightsim today.

He has done a ton of texture work for not only roads, and rails but also trees and the entire FS world, for both FS9 and FSX.... looks like he is a determined texturerer. :)

well i tried. but i dont think my system or my card or my set up is rendering things very well. The new textures, if i actually got them to show, dont seem to be showing the lines i see in the pictures. So i suggest someone else tries them ...i am not sure my results mean much.

old default textures....

the Coast freeway in California just south of Ventura...where the railroad runs next to the highway on the landward side.....i thought that would be a good place for the test...

and another of the default (UT) textures...

http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/9044/defaultroadandrr.jpg

and the new Leclercq. textures, 4 lane freeway and the railroad ... as the Freeway and the RR pass thru Santa Barbara by the Bird Refuge...

another view of the new textures...(which i dont think are showing actually)...

I haven't looked at the addons to be 100% sure, but... If you are using UTX and these addons are for replacing default textures, then you will see no difference. UTX has it's own textures and texture calls in the Terrain.cfg file. You can make use of them within UTX by going into the Setup Tool and making changes there as to what texture file applies to a particular UTX feature. I would suggest making a notation of the in-use UTX textures beforehand, so that when or if you decide to return to normal you will have that info readily available. I'm not sure if the reset to default keystroke combo that's available within UTX covers repairing texture calls. But I'll ask, just to be sure.

ah interesting. I had UT active and the roads feature active, and high up on my priority list and i thouight they were working automatically. I confess i popped UT in and thought it activated everyting automatically.

an interesting thing, i tried turning off UT roads feature....(without uninstalling it entirely or using the features section) in the Scenery library and i had no freeways at all. That was abou close to 4:00 AM so i had to go to sleep. I will try again today as i am interested to see if these textures help improve things or possibly i had not had UT running correctly. thanks .

Even though I like Aimé's replacement textures, I'm gonna give the ones for the roads a pass.

I prefer UTX's generic ones over the better looking replacements, since road markings vary from country to country.

i was thinking about that too....

they are quite differnt in Europe.... well it will be interesting to try to get them to work....i will try when i re install. I am interested in seeing his photorealistic textures for trees, the screenies of them in his dl's were quite intriguing.
